    • The Washington Capitals announced that they have recalled defenseman Hardy Häman Aktell from Hershey of the AHL.
      • The Capitals also placed goaltender Charlie Lindgren on IR.

    Calgary Flames v. Buffalo Sabres – 7p ET

    • In Buffalo, the Sabres welcome the Flames to Western New York for the lone time this season and in the first period Calgary takes the 1-0 lead when Jonathan Huberdeau scores his second goal of the season but then Buffalo responds with Erik Johnson’s first of the year to tie the contest 1-1. Then, Walker Duehr’s first goal of the year gives the Flames the lead once again but Tage Thompson’s first of the year ties the game once again for the Sabres. After the scoreless second period, Blake Coleman’s goal, his first of the season, gives Calgary the lead once again but then JJ Peterka’s second of the year gives Buffalo yet another tied up game. Then, Adam Ruzicka’s second goal on the season gives the Flames the 4-3 win over the Sabres.

    Toronto Maple Leafs v. Florida Panthers – 7p ET

    • In South Florida, the Panthers host the Maple Leafs and in the first period Florida gets a pair of goals when Kevin Stenlund nets his first of the year and then Oliver Ekman-Larsson scores his first of the year to give the Panthers the 2-0 lead. In the second, Toronto gets on the board when Mitchell Marner nets a power play goal, his first goal of the season. Then in the third period, Sam Reinhart’s fourth goal of the year, a shorthanded and empty net goal, gives the Panthers the 3-1 win over the Maple Leafs.

    Nashville Predators v. New York Rangers – 7p ET

    • In New York City, the Rangers host the Predators for the lone time this season and in the first period Nashville gets a pair of goals from Cole Smith to give the Preds the 2-0 lead. In the second, Ryan O’Reilly and Filip Forsberg each score a power play goal, their second and first goal on the season respectively, to give Nashville the commanding 4-0 lead. But then, Adam Fox gets New York on the board with his first of the year on the power play. However, the New York comeback will fall short as the Predators take down the Rangers with the 4-1 victory.

    Vancouver Canucks v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 7p ET

    • In Tampa Bay, the Lightning host the Cancuks and in the first period Nicolas Paul’s third of the year on the Lightning power play gives the Bolts the 1-0 lead. In the second, Brock Boeser’s fifth of the year, just 14 seconds into the period, ties the contest at one goal a piece. Then, Tyler Myers scores his first of the year as the Canucks take the 2-1 lead. Then, Michael Eyssimont’s first of the year will tie the game for Tampa Bay and then Nikita Kucherov’s third of the year gives the lead back to Tampa Bay. As this contest shifts to the third, Nikita Kucherov scores his second of the night, a power play goal, to give Tampa Bay the 4-2 lead but then Vancouver’s J.T. Miller goes on to score his second goal of the year. However, Tampa Bay escapes as the Lightning get the 4-3 win over the Canucks.

    Edmonton Oilers v. Philadelphia Flyers – 730p ET

    • In South Philadelphia, the Flyers host the Oilers and in the first period Joel Farabee’s second of the year give the Flyers the 1-0 lead. In the second, Cam Atkinson socres his second of the year to put Philadelphia up 2-0 but then Zach Hyman’s second of the year brings Edmonton within a goal. Then, Sean Walker’s first of the year, on a Phialdelphia power play, give the Flyers the 3-1 lead. Then in the third, Cam Atkinson’s second of the night gives the Flyers the 4-1 lead and win over the Oilers.

    Los Angeles Kings v. Minnesota Wild – 8p ET

    • In Minnesota, the Wild look to knock the crowns of the Kings and in the first period Los Angeles would take the 1-0 lead with Carl Grundstrom’s second of the year however Minnesota ties the contest when Connor Dewar nets his second of the year. Then, Kirill Kaprizov’s second of the year gives Minnesota the 2-1 lead but then Vladislav Gavrikov’s second of the year ties the game for the Kings. Then, Pierre-Luc Dubois strikes with a pair of goals to give Los Angeles the 4-2 lead. After a scoreless second, Trevor Moore scores his fourth of the year to give the Kings the three goal lead but then Joel Eriksson Ek score his fourth to bring Minnesota within two. Then, Adrian Kempe scores an empty netter, good for his first goal of the season to put the Kings up three and then Blake Lizzote scores an empty netter of his own, while shorthanded, as the Kings breeze by the Wild for the 7-3 win.

    Arizona Coyotes v. St. Louis Blues – 8p ET

    • In St. Louis, the Blues welcome the Coyotes to town and in the first Arizona takes the 1-0 lead with Nick Bjugstad’s first of the year, while on the man advantage. In the second, Clayton Keller scores his second of the year to put the Coyotes up 2-0 but then Jakub Vrana scores hids first of the year to bring the Blues within a goal. Then Michael Carcone scores his first of the year to put Arizona up two and then Nick Schmaltz second of the year gives the Coyotes the 4-1 lead. In the third, Jason Zucker’s power play goal, his first goal of the year, put Arizona up four but the Sammy Blais first of the season cuts the Arizona lead to three. Then, Sean Durzi’s second of the year on a Arizona power play gives the Coyotes a 6-2 win over the Blues.

    Vegas Golden Knights v. Winnipeg Jets – 8p ET

    • In Winnipeg, the Jets host the defending Stanley Cup champion Golden Knights and in the first Winnipeg takes the 1-0 lead Alex Iafallo scores his second of the year but then Vegas gets on the board thanks to Jonathan Marchessault’s second goal of the year on the man advantage. In the second, Vegas takes the 2-1 lead when Brett Howden scores his first of the year and then the Golden Knights take the two goal advantage when Alec Martinez scores his first of the season. Then, Winnipeg’s Cole Perfeti nets his first to bring the Jets within a goal. IN the third, Alex Iafallo nets his second of the night on the Winnipeg man advantage to tie the contest but then Jack Eichel scores his tird of the night on the Vegas man advantage to make it a 4-3 Vegas lead and then Nicolas Roy’s second of the year, an empty netter, gives the Golden Knights the 5-3 win over the Jets

    • In Ottawa the Washington Capitals would hit the road for the first time this season as they would visit the Senators, and in the first period Vladimir Tarasenko would strike and Josh Norris would record a powerplay goal to give the Sens to take the 2-0 lead, but John Carlson would score on a broken play to get the Caps on the board and back within one. In the second period the Sens would strike back as Norris would net his second of the game, and Artem Zub would follow suit with a blast from the point to give the Sens the 4-1 lead. Later in the period Claude Giroux would score to grow the Sens lead to four. Then in the third period Jake Sanderson would score to give the Senators the 6-1 victory over the Capitals.

    • In Philadelphia the Flyers would host the Vancouver Canucks for their home opener, and in the first period Egor Zamula would score his first career NHL goal 1:45 into the game to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead. Then later in the period Sean Couturier would score on a penalty shot to give the Flyers the 2-0 victory over the Canucks. Carter Hart would make 25 saves to earn his sixth career shutout.

    • In Montreal the Canadiens would take on the Minnesota Wild, and in the first period the Wild would record a pair of shorthanded goals in a span of 25 seconds as Brandon Duhaime and Connor Dewar would score to give the Wild the 2-0 lead. In the second period Tanner Pearson would score for the Habs, but powerplay goals from Joel Eriksson Ek and Kirill Kaprizov would give the Wild the 4-1 lead. In the second period Brandon Hagel would score to get the Bolts on the board and cut their deficit to one. Then in the third period with eight seconds left Hagel would net his second of the game to force overtime for the Bolts. Then in the third period the Islanders would be able to keep the Coyotes off the board for the 1-0 victory.

    • In Nashville the Predators would welcome back Mattias Ekholm as the Edmonton Oilers would come to town, and in the first period Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Connor McDavid would score to give the Oilers the commanding 4-0 lead. In the second period Tommy Novak would score to get the Preds on the board, but Draisaitl would net his second powerplay goal and Warren Foegele would strike to put the Oilers up by five. After a scoreless third period the Oilers would go on to defeat the Predators 6-1.

    • The Professional Women’s Hockey League announced the Training Camp Rosters for all six teams.
      • Training Camps will begin on November 15th.
      • All teams will have their final rosters set by December 11th.
        • They must include 23 players signed to Standard Player Agreements, plus two Reserve Player Contracts.
      • A set of Waiver Period Rules and Guidelines has also been established for the 2023-24 season to provide players with multiple opportunities to secure a contract and ensure the league and teams maintain flexibility and transparency.

    • The NHL announced the Three Stars of the Week with Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews taking top honors.
      • Elias Pettersson (VAN) and Evgeni Malkin (PIT) would round out the rest of the Three Stars.

Then in the third period Reinhart would score his second of the game to grow the Panthers lead to four, but the Devils would finally respond as Erik Haula, Michael McLeod, and Jesper Bratt would score. however, it would not be enough as the Panthers would go on to defeat the Devils 4-3.

    Arizona Coyotes v. New York Rangers – 7p ET

    • At Madison Square Garden the Arizona Coyotes would come to town to battle the New York Rangers, and in the first period Chris Kreider would score to give the Rangers the 1-0 lead. In the second period Clayton Keller would strike on the powerplay to tie the game at one for the Yotes. Then in the third period the Rangers would get a powerplay goal of their own as Vincent Trocheck would score to give them the 2-1 victory over the Coyotes. However, it would end with some feistiness as we would see 66 minutes in penalties doled out to finish the game.

    Chicago Blackhawks v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7p ET

    • In Toronto the Chicago Blackhawks would continue their road trip to open up the season as the visit the Maple Leafs, and after a scoreless first period John Tavares would score for the Leafs, but goals from MacKenzie Entwistle, Corey Perry, and Tyler Johnson would give the Blackhawks the 3-1 lead. then in the third period Taylor Raddysh would get the empty netter to give the Blackhawks the 4-1 victory over the Maple Leafs.

    • In Washington the Capitals would look to get themselves into the win column for the first time this season as they take on the Calgary Flames, and in the first period Adam Ruzicka and Dillon Dube would score to get the Flames on the board first and with the 2-0 lead. In the second period the Capitals would finally respond as Matthew Phillips would score his first career NHL goal against his former club, and then Connor McMichael would score, with Phillips recording his first career assist, to tie the game at two. Then after a scoreless third period and overtime session, it would be Evgeny Kuznetsov with the shootout winner to give the Capitals the 3-2 victory over the Flames.

    NHL Stars of the Week – Matthews Dual Hat Tricks Shine

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of October 10th through 15th and Auston Matthews dual hat tricks shine as he takes top honors.

    First Star – Auston Matthews (C – TOR)

    • Auston Matthews would become the fifth player in NHL history to open up the season with a hat trick in each of his two first games. Matthews would also become only the second person since the League’s inaugural campaign of 1917-18 to accomplish the feat. Matthews would open up the season with a hat trick against Montreal in a 6-5 shootout victory for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 11th. Then on Oct. 14th against Minnesota he would record his second hat trick in a 7-4 victory. Matthews would also reach the 300 goal plateau with his first goal in the game against Montreal.

    Second Star – Elias Pettersson (C – VAN)

    • Elias Pettersson would record a goal and five assists for six points in two games played for the Vancouver Canucks as they would open their season with a home-and-home sweep of the Edmonton Oilers. Pettersson would record a goal and three assists as he would be one of three Canuck players to record four points (Brock Boeser – 4g, JT Miller – 1g 3a) in an 8-1 victory over the Oilers on Oct. 11th. then on Oct. 14th Pettersson would record two assists in a 4-3 win over Edmonton.

    Third Star – Evgeni Malkin (C – PIT)

    • Evgeni Malkin would record two goals and four assists for six points in three games played for the Pittsburgh Penguins. After being held off of the scoresheet in a 4-2 loss to Chicago on Oct. 10th, Malkin would record a goal and three assists in a 4-0 victory over Washington on Oct. 13th. Then to close out his first week of the season, Malkin would record a goal and an assist in a 5-2 victory over Calgary on Oct. 14th.

    Philadelphia Flyers v. Ottawa Senators – 1p ET

    • In Ottawa the Senators would play host to the Philadelphia Flyers for their home opener, along with celebrating a Claude Giroux milestone, and in the first period Jakob Chychrun would net a pair of goals to give the Sens the 2-0 lead, but Travis Konecny would strike on the powerplay to get the Flyers back within one. In the second period Jake Sanderson would score to get the Sens back up by two, but Cam York would score 18 seconds later to bring the Flyers back within one again. However, Brady Tkachuk would score to regain the two goal lead once again. Then in the third period Tkachuk would net his second of the game while on the powerplay to give the Senators the 5-2 victory over the Flyers.

    Florida Panthers v. Winnipeg Jets – 4p ET

    • In Winnipeg the Jets would play host to the Florida Panthers, and in the first period Mark Scheifele would open the scoring for the Jets, but Sam Reinhart would score late in the period to tie the game at one for the Panthers. In the second period Evan Rodrigues would strike to give the Panthers the 2-1 lead, but goals from Kyle Connor, Morgan Barron, and Dylan DeMelo would give the 4-2 lead to the Jets. Then in the third period Mason Appleton would score to grow the Jets lead to three, but a tally from Carter Verhaeghe and Rodrigues’ second of the game would get the Panthers back within one. However, Connor would net his second of the game to give the Jets the 6-4 victory over the Panthers.

    Nashville Predators v. Boston Bruins – 7p ET

    • In Boston the Nashville Predators would come to town to face the Bruins, and in the first period Colton Sissons would score to get the Preds on the board first, but James van Riemsdyk would score his first goal as a Bruin to tie the game at one. In the second period David Pastrnak would score for the Bruins on a penalty shot, but Sissons’ second of the game would tie the game at two for the Preds. Then in the third period van Riemsday would net his second of the game to give the Bruins the 3-2 victory over the Predators.

    New York Rangers v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 7p ET

    • In Columbus the Blue Jackets would play host to the New York Rangers, and in the first period Erik Gustafsson would net his first goal as a Ranger to take the 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game, but a pair of goals from Boone Jenner would give the Jackets the 2-1 lead. In the second period Jenner would strike again to complete the natural hat trick and a tally from David Jiricek would net his first career NHL goal to give the Jackets the 4-1 lead. then in the third period Will Cuylle would net his first career NHL goal and Chris Kreider would score for the Rangers, but Justin Danforth would score to secure the 5-3 victory for the Blue Jackets over the Rangers.

    Tampa Bay Lightning v. Detroit Red Wings – 7p ET

    • In Detroit the Red Wings would take on the Tampa Bay Lightning, and in the first period Daniel Sprong would open the scoring for the Wings, but Steven Stamkos and Brandon Hagel would score to give the Bolts the 2-1 lead. However, Alex DeBrincat would score to tie the game at two. In the second period Stamkos would net his second of the game for the Bolts, but Lucas Raymond would strike and JT Compher would score his first as a Wing to give Detroit the 4-3 lead. Then in the third period Victor Hedman would net his first of the season for the Bolts, but goals from DeBrincat and Moritz Seider would give the Red Wings the 6-4 victory over the Lightning.

    Chicago Blackhawks v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p ET

    • In Montreal the Canadiens would play host to their Original Six rival Chicago Blackhawks as Connor Bedard would make his Hockey Night in Canada debut, and after a scoreless first period Cole Caufield would open the scoring to give the Habs the 1-0 lead, and then Tanner Pearson would score his first as a Hab and Sean Monahan would score to grow their lead to three. Then in the third period Tyler Johnson would net a pair of goals for Chicago, but it would not be enough as the Canadiens would hold on to defeat the Blackhawks 3-2.

    Calgary Flames v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p ET

    • In Pittsburgh the Penguins would play the second game of their back to back as they would host the Calgary Flames, and after a scoreless first period Matt Coronato would score his first career NHL goal to give the Flames the 1-0 lead. Then in the third period The Pens would score four straigh goals as Bryan Rust, Reilly Smith, Jake Guentzel, and Evgeni Malkin would score to give them the 4-1 lead. While Jonathan Huberdeau would score for the Flames, Rust’s second goal of the game would give the Penguins the 5-2 victory over Calgary.

    Minnesota Wild v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7p ET

    • In Toronto for a Hockey night in Canada matchup the Maple Leafs would take on the Minnesota Wild, and in the first period the Wild would strike first with a Ryan Hartman tally, but a pair of goals from Auston Matthews and a goal from William Nylander would give the Leafs the 3-1 lead. In the second period Tyler Bertuzzi would score his first goal as a Leaf to grow their lead to three, but goals from Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi (first career NHL goal) would get the Wild back within one. Then in the third period Brandon Duhaime would score fort he Wild, Calle Jarnkrok would score along with Matthews completing the hat trick and Nylander netting his second of the game as the Maple Leafs would go on to defeat the Wild 7-4.

    Buffalo Sabres v. New York Islanders – 730p ET

    • In Long Island the New York Islanders would have their home opener as they would host the Buffalo Sabres, and in the first period Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri would score to give the Isles the 2-0 lead. In the second period Jordan Greenway would strike for the Sabres to get back within one. Then in the third period Casey Mittelstadt would score to tie the game at two for the Sabres, but Casey Cizikas would net his first of the season to give the Islanders the 3-2 victory over the Sabres.

    Seattle Kraken v. St. Louis Blues – 8p ET

    • In St. Louis the Blues would take on the Seattle Kraken in their home opener, and after a scoreless first period Jaden Schwartz would open the scoring for Kraken, but Jordan Kyrou would score to tie the game for the Blues. Then after a scoreless third period and overtime it would be Robert Thomas with the shootout winning goal to lead the Blues to a 2-1 victory over the Kraken.

      • In New Jersey the Arizona Coyotes would open up their season against the Devils, and in the first period Matt Dumba would record his first goal as a Coyote to take the 1-0 lead. In the second period Sean Durzi would also record his first as a Coyote to grow their lead to two, but a pair of goals from Jesper Bratt and a goal from Dougie Hamilton would give the Devils the 3-2 lead.       • In upstate New York, the Sabres welcome their in state rivals in the New York Rangers. In the first period, the Rangers get on the board when Alexis Lafrenière scores his first goal of the season at 3:47 and then the Blueshirts grab the 2-0 lead when Chris Kredier scores a power play goal, his first goal of the season, at 12:22. In the second period, Artemi Panarin gives New York the 3-0 lead with his first of the season at 12:49 in the period but then Buffalo will get on the board when JJ Peterka gets his first at 18:30. In the third, Chris Kreider scores shorthanded goal, his second goal of the night, and then Jakob Trouba scores his first of the season at 18:31 as the Rangers breeze by the Sabres with the 5-1 victory.

      • In Columbus, the Blue Jackets host the Flyers as both teams kick off their 2023-24 campaigns. In the first period, Philadelphia gets on the board when Joel Farabee nets his first at 3:33 but then the Blue Jackets tie the contest up when Jake Bean nets his first at 8:24. Then, Travis Konecky scores his first of the season at 12:43 to give Philadelphia the lead once again. After a scoreless second, Cam Atkinson scores and empty net goal. his first of the year, to put the Flyers up 3-1 but then Columbus comes within a goal when Patrik Laine nets his first of the season. Travis Konecny’s second of the night with one second remaining in the game gives the Flyers the victory as they double up the Blue Jackets 4-2.
    • Detroit Red Wings v. New Jersey Devils – 730p ET
      • In the Garden State, the New Jersey Devils look to improve from last season as they kick off the new season with the Detroit Red Wings coming to town. After a scoreless first period, Daniel Sprong scores his first at 12:14 to put the Red Wings up 1-0 but then New Jersey gets on the board with a power play goal from Jack Hughes, his first goal of the season. New Jersey then takes the 2-1 lead when Jack Hughes scores his second goal of the night. In the third, Detroit ties the game up when Alex DeBrincat nets his first of the season but then New Jersey gets another pair of goal when Dougie Hamilton and Erik Haula each find the back of the net to put the Devils up 4-2. Then, Robby Fabbri brings the Red Wings within a goal with a power play goal but the Devils hold on as they go on to defeat the Red Wings 4-3.
    • St. Louis Blues v. Dallas Stars – 8p ET
      • In the Lone Star State, the Stars host the Blues to kick off the 2023-24 season for each team. After a scoreless first, Dallas strikes first when Jamie Benn nets his first but then St. Louis responds to tie the contest when Tyler Tucker scores his first. After a scoreless third and overtime session, the game moves to the shootout where Matt Duchene gets the game winner as the Stars down the Blues 2-1.
    • Florida Panthers v. Minnesota Wild – 8p ET
      • In the State of Hockey, the Minnesota Wild host the Florida Panthers as each team kick off a new season and in the first first, the Wild strike first with Brock Faber’s first of the season at 7:54. In the second period, Minnesota gets a power play goal from Joel Eriksson Ek, his first of the season, as the Wild go on to shutout the Panthers 2-0.
    • Seattle Kraken v. Nashville Predators – 8p ET
      • In Nashville, the Predators host the Kraken as each team look to get their first win of the season. After a scoreless first period, Nashville takes the 1-0 lead when Colton Sissons scores a shorthanded goal at 10:24. In the second, Gustav Nyquist also scores his first of the year, with his goal coming at 10:03 in the period, to give the Preds the 2-0 lead and then Jusso Parssinen scores an empty netter at 18:19, his first goal of the season, as the Predators go to shutout the Kraken with the 3-0 victory.
