TXHT Jersey Share – Retro in the Wild

Ladies and gentlemen welcome to another edition of TXHT Jersey Share where today we take a look at the Minnesota Wild’s “The 78’s” alternate jersey.

The Jersey

After two successful runs with the Reverse Retro program that saw the Minnesota Wild utilize the old Minnesota North Stars jersey style and colors, but with their logo. The Wild would revive their their second version of the Reverse Retro and nickname it “The 78’s”.

Called “The 78’s” in honor of 1978 Minnesota North Stars who wore this jersey design and colors. The Wild would make some additions to the jersey. For one, they would incorporate a “State of Hockey” patch that would go onto the right shoulder, and then for the C and A’s for the leadership group, the letter would be in a patch in the shape of the state of Minnesota.

I picked up my Wild “The 78’s” jersey on Nov. 2nd when the Wild hosted the New Jersey Devils for the second game of their home and home series, which I was also in New Jersey for the first game between these two teams a few days earlier, from their team store The Hockey Lodge, and the staff was super nice there.

Fun Little Story

Unfortunately, the Wild did not wear the 78’s against the Devils that night, but they did two nights later against the New York Rangers, and well, let’s just say there was a fun little bet at Twin Cities Con with “Clerks” franchise actor Brian O’Halloran.

At the “Clerks” panel Brian noted that he was leaving early to go to the Wild game against his favorite team the New York Rangers, and then one of the attendees bet that if the Wild beat the Rangers then Brian would need to wear a Wild jersey. Brian agreed and said that he was a size 52, which is what I wear for my jerseys.

Well, low and behold, the Wild defeated the Rangers in the shootout and I made sure to beeline right to Brian’s table first thing when the con opened up for it’s final day, and I gave the jersey to his handler, for which she wrote on a post-it note “Ha Ha!” and put it with the jersey. A little later I came back and there was Brian, wearing the jersey. I took a few pictures of him with the jersey on, and of course, we got a picture of us together too. Brian is a great guy, and you can see him at a convention near you.

Overall Thoughts

Overall, I like the jersey. The colors are amazing, and it really does work with the Wild’s logo. The jersey give a fresh look that is also vibrant, and that is really cool. Also, Brian O’Halloran wore my freaking jersey. Like how cool is that!
