    • The Calgary Flames announced that goaltender Dan Vladar will miss the remainder of the season.
      • Vladar will undergo season ending hip surgery.

    • The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that they have offered Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson an in-person hearing for his high stick on Toronto Maple Leafs forward Noah Gregor on Wednesday night.
      • Wilson is eligible to be suspended for 5 or more games due to it being an in-person hearing.

    New York Rangers v. Boston Bruins – 7p ET

    • In Boston, the Bruins hosted the Rangers and in the first Boston would go up 1-0 when Jake DeBrusk scored his 18th of the year. In the second, Artemi Panarin scored a pair of goals to put the Rangers up 2-1. In the third, Justin Brazeau scored his fourth of the year to tie the game for the Bruins but then Adam Fox scored his 13th of the year to put New York in the lead for good. Mika Zibanejad then scored his 23rd on an empty net to put the Blueshirts up 4-2 and then Artemi Panarin clinched the hat trick as he scored on the empty net to give the Rangers the 5-2 victory over the Bruins.

    Philadelphia Flyers v. Carolina Hurricanes – 7p ET

    • In Raleigh, the Hurricanes hosted the Flyers and after a scoreless first, Jordan Martinook scored his 13th of the year to put Carolina up 1-0 but Scott Laughton’s 12th tied the game for Philadelphia. Then, Jalen Chatfield scored his eighth of the year as Carolina went up 2-1. In the third, Travis Konecny’s 28th of the year tied the game for the Flyers. In the overtime session, Seth Jarvis scored his 26th of the year as the Hurricanes eked past the Flyers 3-2.

    New York Islanders v. Detroit Red Wings – 7p ET

    • In Detroit, the Red Wings hosted the Islanders and after a scoreless first, Christian Fischer scored his fifth to put Detroit up 1-0 but then Mike Reilly netted his fifth to tie the game for the Isles. Andrew Copp then scored his 11th of the year to put Detroit back up a goal and then Dylan Larkin scored his 27th as the Red Wings went up 3-1. In the third, Andrew Copp scored his second of the night as the Wings went up three and then Patrick Kane scored his 16th as Detroit made it a 5-1 game. New York then got a pair when Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored his ninth on the power play and Mathew Barzal scored his 21st. Dylan Larkin then hit the empty net for his second goal of the night as the Red Wings got the 6-3 win over the Islanders.

    Winnipeg Jets v. New Jersey Devils – 7p ET

    • In New Jersey, the Jets visited the Garden State to take on the Devils and after a scoreless first, the Devils went up 1-0 after Jack Hughes scored a power play goal. Nikolaj Ehlers 21st goal of the year would tie the game for Winnipeg. In the third, Nico Hischier struck with his 23rd of the year on the power play and then Jack Hughes scored his second power play goal of the contest as New Jersey went up 3-1. Then, Timo Meier scored the empty net game winner as the Devils took down the Jets 4-1.

    St. Louis Blues v. Ottawa Senators – 7p ET

    • In Ottawa, the Senators hosted the Blues and in the first St. Louis went up 1-0 when Brandon Saad scored his 21st of the year and then Colton Parayko scored his 10th as the Blues went up 2-0. In the second, Mark Kastelic scored his fourth of the year to put Ottawa on the board but then Jake Neighbours scored his 23rd of the year to put the Blues back up two. In the third, Dominik Kubalik scored his 11th to bring Ottawa within a goal once more but Jordan Kyrou scored his 22nd as St. Louis re-took the two goal lead. Jake Neighbours then scored his second of the night as the Blues got the 5-2 win over the Senators.

    • It was announced that former Washington Capital Chris Simon has passed away.
      • Simon spent seven years with the Capitals, and also played for the Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Calgary Flames, New York Islanders, and Minnesota Wild.
      • Simon would win the Stanley Cup with Colorado in 1996 and be part of the Capitals (1998) and Flames (2004) teams that would make the Stanley Cup Final.

  • Former Cap Chris Simon Passes Away

    Former Cap Chris Simon Passes Away

    It is with sad news today that we have learned of the passing of former Washington Capitals forward Chris Simon.

    Simon, who was born in Wawa, Ontario, Canada, was drafted into the NHL 25th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1990 NHL Draft, but would be part of the infamous Eric Lindros trade to the Quebec Nordiques that would also see Peter Forsberg, Steve Duchesne, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Ron Hextall, and a pair of draft picks go to Quebec.

    Simon would shift over to Colorado when the Nordiques relocated to Denver in 1995 to become the Avalanche. During their first season in Colorado, Simon and the Avalanche would win the Stanley Cup in 1996. Then on November 2nd, 1997, Simon would be traded to the Capitals with Curtis Leschyshyn for Keith Jones and a pair of draft picks. Simon would play an integral part for the Capitals as he would be a part of the 1997-98 team that would make their first ever Stanley Cup Final appearance.

    In his seven years with the Capitals Simon would record career highs in goals (29 – 1999-2000), assists (20 – 1999-2000), and points (49 – 1999-2000). On November 1st, 2002 Simon would be traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, and after that he would go on to play for the New York Rangers, Calgary Flames, New York Islanders, and Minnesota Wild.

    Simon would end his NHL career in 2007-08 as a member of the Wild. Simon would go on to play in 15 NHL season that would see him play in 864 games with 144 goals and 161 assists for 305 points. Simon would also amass 1,824 penalty minutes.

    TXHT would like express our condolences to Simon’s family, friends, and former teammates during this difficult time. Simon was 52 years old.

      • Connor Bedard (CHI) and Marc-Andre Fleury (MIN) would round out the rest of the Three Stars.
    • NHL Stars of the Week – Kucherov Dominates for Top Honors

    • The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they will be signing forward Wayne Simmonds.
      • Simmonds will be signing a one day contract to retire with the Flyers.

In the second, Alex Ovechkin notched a pair of power play goals to put the Caps up 3-0 but then Kevin Rooney’s second of the year put Calgary on the board. Then, Hendrix Lapierre got his eighth of the year to gove Washington the three goal lead back. In the third, MacKenzie Weegar notched his 16th of the year to bring the Flames within two but Tom Wilson got an empty netter as the Capitals extinguished the Flames 5-2.

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of March 11th through 17th.

    First Star – Nikita Kucherov (RW – TB)

    • Nikita Kucherov would record two goals and five assists for seven points in two games played for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Kucherov would begin his week with a goal and four assists in a 6-3 victory over the New York Rangers on March 14th. Then on March 16th he would record a goal and an assist in a 5-3 victory over Florida to close out his week. Kucherov would reach the 40 goal, 70 assist, and 110 point plateaus in this week alone.

    Second Star – Connor Bedard (C – CHI)

    • Connor Bedard would also record two goals and five assists for seven points, but in three games played for the Chicago Blackhawks. To open up his week, Bedard would record a goal and four assists in a 7-2 victory over Anaheim on March 12th. Then on March 15th he would be held off of the scoresheet by Los Angeles in a 5-0 loss, but Bedard would recover to close out the week as he would record a goal and an assist in a 5-2 victory over San Jose on March 17th.

    Third Star – Marc-Andre Fleury (G – MIN)

    • Marc-Andre Fleury would record a 2-0-1 week with a .97 goals against average, a .961 save percentage, and one shutout for the Minnesota Wild. To kick off the week, Fleury would make 22 saves in a 4-1 victory over Arizona on March 12th, and then on March 14th Fleury would make 16 saves to earn his 75th career shutout with a 2-0 victory over Anaheim. Then to close out the week, Fleury would make 35 saves in a 3-2 shootout loss to St. Louis on March 16th.

    • At Madison Square Garden the New York Ranger would play host to the Islanders for a Battle of New York, and in the first period Bo Horvat would strike shorthanded to give the Isles the 1-0 lead. In the second period Mika Zibanejad and Will Cuylle would score to give the Rangers the 2-1 lead, but Horvat would net his second of the game to tie the game at two for the Isles. However, Jonny Brodzinski would score to reclaim the lead for the Rangers. Then in the third period Kaapo Kakko and Alexis Lafreniere would score to give the Rangers the 5-2 victory over the Islanders.

    New Jersey Devils v. Vegas Golden Knights – 3:30p ET

    • In Vegas, the Golden Knights hosted the Devils and after a scoreless first and second period, Nico Hischier scored his 22nd of the year to put New Jersey up 1-0 but then William Carrier’s sixth tied the game for Vegas.     • It’s St. Patrick’s Day early as the Toronto Maple Leafs would host the Carolina Hurricanes, and after a scoreless first period John Tavares, William Nylander, and Nick Robertson would score to give the Leafs the 3-0 lead, but goals from Jordan Martinook and Seth Jarvis would get the Canes back within one.     • In Dallas the Stars would honor Mike Modano as the Los Angeles Kings would come to town, and in the first period Thomas Harley, Craig Smith, and Wyatt Johnston would score to give the Stars the 3-0 lead. In the second period Jamie Benn would score to give the Stars the four goal lead. Then in the third period Kevin Fiala would score for the Kings, but it would not be enough as the Blues would hold on to defeat the Kings 4-1.
