    NHL Stars of the Week – Reinhart’s Consistency Earns Top Honors

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of November 6th through 12th.

    First Star – Sam Reinhart (C – FLA)

    • Sam Reinhart would remain consistent for the Florida Panthers as he would net three goals and seven assists ion four games played for the week. Reinhart would open up the week with a pair of assists in a 5-4 overtime victory over Columbus on Nov.6th, and then on Nov. 8th he would record a goal in a 4-3 overtime victory over Washington. Then on Nov. 10th against Carolina he would record a pair of assists in a 5-2 win, and to close out the week Reinhart would record two goals and two assists in a 4-3 victory over Chicago on Nov. 12th.
    Sam Reinhart's consistency earns top honors as the National Hockey League would name him the First Star of the Week.

    Second Star – Kyle Connor (LW – WIN)

    • Kyle Connor would lead the NHL with five goals, and would record three assists for eight points in three games played for the Winnipeg Jets. Connor would open up his week with two goals and an assist in a 5-2 victory over St. Louis on Nov. 7th, and on Nov. 9th against Nashville he would record three goals and an assist in a 6-3 victory. Then to close out the week Connor would record an assist in a 3-2 loss to Dallas on Nov. 11th.

    Third Star – William Nylander (RW – TOR)

    • William Nylander would record four goals and three assists for seven points in four games played for the Toronto Maple Leafs. To open up his week Nylander would record an assist in a 6-5 victory over Tampa Bay on Nov. 6th, and on Nov. 8th he would record a goal and an assist in a 6-3 loss to Ottawa. Then on Nov. 10th he would record two goals and an assist in a 5-4 shootout victory over Calgary, and to close out the week Nylander would record a goal in a 5-2 victory over Vancouver on Nov. 11th.

    • The Edmonton Oilers announced that they have relieved Jay Woodcroft as head coach.
      • The Oilers also relieved Dave Manson of his duties as assistant coach.
      • The Oilers would announce that Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) head coach Kris Knoblauch would assume the head coaching duties.
      • Paul Coffey would also be brough on as an assistant coach.

     

    • The Philadelphia Flyers would announce that former netminder Roman Cechmanek passed away.
      • Cechmanek played for the Flyers from 2000 through 2003, and won the William M. Jennings Trophy with Robert Esche in 2002-03.
      • Cechmanek would also play one season with the Los Angeles Kings in 2003-04.

    Chicago Blackhawks v. Florida Panthers – 1p ET

    • In Florida the Panthers would play host to the Chicago Blackhawks in a back and forth matchup, and in the first period both teams would trade goals as Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Sam Reinhart would strike for the Panthers while Jason Dickinson and Connor Bedard would score for the Blackhawks for the 2-2 tie. In the second period both Reinhart and Bedard would net their second goals of the game for a 3-3 tie. Then in the third period Carter Verhaeghe would score to give the Panthers the 4-3 victory over the Blackhawks.

    Dallas Stars v. Minnesota Wild – 6p ET

    • In Minnesota for their Hockey Fights Cancer game, the Wild would play host to the Dallas Stars, and in the first period Brandon Duhaime and Vinni Lettieri would score for the Wild, but goals from Joe Pavelski, Radek Faksa, and Matt Duchene would give the Stars the 3-2 lead. In the second period Wyatt Johnston and Evgenii Dadonov would score to give the Stars the three goal lead, but Mats Zucarello would strike on the powerplay to get the Wild back within two. Then in the third period Jason Robertson would net a pair of goals and Johnston would net his second of the game to give the Stars the 8-3 victory over the Wild.

    Vancouver Canucks v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p ET

    • In Montreal for another Hockey Fights Cancer game the Canadiens would play host to the Vancouver Canucks, and after a scoreless first period Conor Garland, Ilya Mikheyev, and Dakota Joshua would strike to give the Canucks the 3-0 lead. Then in the third period Mike Matheson and Arber Xhekaj would score for the Habs, but goals from Brock Boeser and Phillip Di Giuseppe would give the Canucks the 5-2 victory over the Canadiens.

    Columbus Blue Jackets v. New York Rangers – 7p ET

    • At Madison Square Garden the New York Rangers would play host to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and in the first period Justin Danforth would open the scoring for the Jackets, but Chris Kreider would strike to tie the game at one for the Rangers. In the second period Alexis Lafreniere would score for the Rangers, but goals from Adam Fantilli and Sean Kuraly would give the Jackets the 3-2 lead. Then in the third period Lafreniere would net his second of the game with 11 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime for the Rangers. After a scoreless five minutes of extra hockey it would be Lafreniere with the lone goal of the shootout to give the Rangers the 4-3 victory over the Blue Jackets.

    San Jose Sharks v. Anaheim Ducks – 8p ET

    • In Anaheim the Ducks would celebrate their “Mighty” roots with their matchup against the San Jose Sharks, and in the first period Luke Kunin would score for the Sharsk, but a pair of goals from Frank Vatrano would give the Ducks the 2-1 lead. Then after a scoreless second period Mason McTavish would score on the powerplay and Radko Gudas would score to give the Ducks the 4-1 victory over the Sharks.

    News

    • The Washington Capitals announced that they have placed defenseman Martin Fehervary on IR.
      • The Capitals would also call up defenseman Dylan McIlrath from Hershey of the AHL.

    Columbus Blue Jackets v. Detroit Red Wings – 1p ET

    • In Detroit for a Veteran’s Day early afternoon matinee the Red Wings would play host to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and in the first period Lucas Raymond and Robby Fabbri would strike to give the Wings the 2-0 lead, but goals from Alexandre Texier and Adam Fantilli would tie the game at two for the Jackets. In the second period Sean Kuraly would score to give the Jackets the 3-2 lead, but Alex DeBrincat and Daniel Sprong would score for a 4-3 Detroit lead. Then in the third period Patrik Laine would strike for the Jackets, but Fabbri’s second of the game earlier in the period would give the Red Wings the 5-4 victory over the Blue Jackets.

    Dallas Stars v. Winnipeg Jets – 3p ET

    • In Winnipeg we would be treated to another afternoon Veteran’s Day matinee as the Jets would play host to the Dallas Stars, and after a scoreless first period Thomas Harley and Wyatt Johnston would score to give the Stars the 2-0 lead, but Cole Perfetti would strike to get the Jets back within one. However, before the second period would end Matt Duchene would strike to regain the two goal lead for the Stars. Then in the third period Brenden Dillon would score for the Jets, but it would not be enough as the Stars would hold on for the 3-2 victory over the Jets.

    Boston Bruins v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p ET

    • In Montreal for an Original Six matchup for Hockey Night in Canada the Canadiens would play host to the Boston Bruins, and in the first period Pavel Zacha would net his fifth of the season to give the Bs the 1-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period Nick Suzuki and Brendan Gallagher would score to give the Habs the 2-1 lead, but Brad Marchand would strike to tie the game at two and force overtime for the Bs. In the extra frame Kaiden Guhle would score to give the Canadiens the 3-2 overtime victory over the Bruins.

    Calgary Flames v. Ottawa Senators – 7p ET

    • In Ottawa the Senators would play host to the Calgary Flames, and in the first period Mathieu Joseph would score for the Sens to take the 1-0 lead. In the second period Drake Batherson would score to grow the Sens the lead to two, but Blake Coleman would score to get the Flames back within one. Then in the third period Rourke Chartier and Travis Hamonic would score to give the Senators the 4-1 victory over the Flames.

    • On Long Island the Washington Capitals would come to town to take on the New York Islanders, and in the first period Alex Ovechkin would strike to give the Caps the 1-0 lead, but the Isles would get a lucky break as Alexander Romanov would score to tie the game at one. In the second period Nic Dowd and Aliaksei Protas would both net their first goals of the season to give the Caps the 3-1 lead.     • The Washington Capitals announced a series of moves.
      • On Thursday the Capitals re-assigned forward Michael Sgarbossa back to Hershey of the AHL.
      • The Capitals would recall forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel and goaltender Hunter Shepard from Hershey.
      • The Capitals also activated forward Nic Dowd from IR, and placed forward Anthony Mantha on IR.

    • The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they will be retiring Jaromir Jagr’s number 68.
      • The Penguins will retire Jagr’s number on Feb. 18th when they host the Los Angeles Kings.

    • Today the Hockey Hall of Fame held their Ring Ceremony for the Class of 2023.

    • In the PWHL Toronto would sign goaltender Erica Howe to a one year deal.

    • Toronto would also sign defender Kali Flanagan to a two year deal.

    • Boston announced that they have signed forward Nicole Kosta to a one year deal.

    Minnesota Wild v. Buffalo Sabres – 7p ET

    • In Buffalo for their Hockey Fights Cancer game the Sabres would play host to the Minnesota Wild, and in the first period Henri Jokiharju would strike first for the Sabres, but Kirill Kaprizov would score on the powerplay to tie the game at one for the Wild. In the second period Jeff Skinner would net his seventh of the season to give the Sabres the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period JJ Peterka would strike to grow the Sabres lead to two, and while Joel Eriksson Ek would score for the Wild to get them back within one, it would not be enough as the Sabres would hold on to defeat the Wild 3-2.

    • In New Jersey the Devils would play host to the Washington Capitals for the second time in 16 days, and in the first period Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Beck Malenstyn would both net their first of the season fifteen seconds apart to give the Caps the 2-0 lead. In the second period Evgeny Kuznetsov would score to grow the Caps lead to three. Then in the third period Timo Meier and Dawson Mercer would score to get the Devils on the board and back within one, but Kuznetsov would get the empty netter for his second of the game to give the Capitals the 4-2 victory over the Devils.

    • In Beantown, the Bruins welcomed the Islanders back to Boston and in the first Trent Frederic scored his third of the year to put the B’s up 1-0 but then New York tied it up with Brock Nelson’s sixth of the year. In the second, Charlie Coyle scored his third of the year on the power play to put Boston back up a goal. In the third, the Isles tied it up with a shorty from Simon Holmstrom but then David Pastrnak scored a power play goal of his own to make it a 3-2 Boston lead. Then, Charlie Coyle scored a pair, thus getting the hat trick, and giving the Bruins the 5-2 win over the Islanders.

    Montreal Canadiens v. Detroit Red Wings – 7p ET

    • In an Original Six in the Motor City, the Red Wings welcomed the Canadiens and in the first Montreal took the 1-0 lead when Mike Matheson scored his third of the year. In the second, Detroit tied the game when Christain Fischer got his first of the year. In the third, Montreal re-took the lead with a power play goal from Nick Suzuki but then Detroit tied it up once more when J.T. Compher scored his third of the year. In overtime, Cole Caufield scored his fifth of the year as the Canadiens got the 3-2 win over the Red Wings.

    Minnesota Wild v. New York Rangers – 7p ET

    • In New York City, the Wild visited the Rangers for the lone time on the season and in the first New York took the 1-0 lead when Vincent Trocheck scored his fourth of the year. In the second, Minnesota tied the game when Brandon Duhaime scored his third of the year. In the third, Alexis Lafrenière scored his fifth to give the Blueshirts the 2-1 lead and then Blake Wheeler’s first of the year on a New York power play put the Rangers up two. Then, Artemi Panarin’s empty net goal, his eighth goal of the year, gave the Rangers the 4-1 win over the Wild.

    Vancouver Canucks v. Ottawa Senators – 7p ET

    • In a battle of Canadian franchises in Ottawa, the Canucks and Senators engaged in battle. In the first the Canucks took the 1-0 lead with Brock Boeser’s 11th of the year and then Vancouver took the 2-0 lead when Ilya Mikheyev scored his fourth. Ottawa then got on the board when Drake Batherson scored his third of the year. In the second, the Sens tied it up with Artem Zub’s second of the year but then Vancouver got the lead back with J.T. Miller’s eighth of the year. In the third, Ilya Mikheyev’s second of the night gave Vancouver the 4-2 lead and then Elias Pettersson’s goal on the power play gave the Canucks the 5-2 win over the Senators.

In the second, Corey Perry scored a power play goal as Chicago tooko the three goal lead. In the third, Steven Stamkos scored a late goal but the Blackhawks held on as they defeated the Lightning 5-3.

    • In the Gateway City, the Blues and Coyotes did battle in a divisional match-up and in the first, St. Louis took the 1-0 lead when Oskar Sundqvist scored his second of the year but then Arizona tied it up with a power play goal from Lawson Crouse. In the second, St. Louis took the 2-1 lead when Robert Thomas scored his sixth of the year. After a scoreless third, the Blues held on as they would down the Coyotes for the 2-1 win.

    Nashville Predators v. Winnipeg Jets – 8p ET

    • In Winnipeg, the Jets hosted the Predators and in the first the Jets took the 1-0 lead with Mason Appleton’s fourth of the year but then Nashville evened the scored with Filip Forsberg’s third of the year. There would also be matching fighting majors doled out at 10:02 for Nashville’s Jeremy Lauzon and Winnipeg’s Adam Lowry and then at 16:11 in the period, Nashville’s Cole Smith would be given an Instigator penalty, on top of fighting major, also with Adam Lowry. Cole Smith would also be given a 10 minute misconduct penalty as well. In the second, the Jets lit the lamp with Kyle Connor scoring a pair and then Cole Perfetti scored his third of the year to give the Jets the 4-1 lead. Then, Filip Forsberg’s second of the night brought the Predators within two.     • In Florida, the Panthers and Blue Jackets faced off for the first time this season and in the first period Florida took the 1-0 lead with a goal from Ryan Lomberg. Then, the Panthers took the 2-0 lead with Gustav Forsling’s second goal and then Aleksander Barkov’s third made this a 3-0 Panthers lead. Columbus then gets on the board with Sean Kuraly’s third of the year and then Boone Jenner scored his sixth to bring the Blue Jackets within a goal. In the second, Columbus tied the contest with a power play goal from Kirill Marchenko, his second goal of the year. In the third, Columbus took the lead when Alexandre Texier scored his first but then the Panthers tied the contest when Nick Cousins scored his second of the year. In overtime, Carter Verhaeghe scored the game winner to give the Panthers the 5-4 win over the Blue Jackets.

    Tampa Bay Lightning v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7p ET

    • In Toronto, the Maple Leafs hosted the Lightning for the first time this season and in the first Toronto took the 1-0 lead when Matthew Knies scored his third of the season but then Tampa Bay tied the game when Victor Hedman scored his third of the year and then the Lightning took the 2-1 lead with Nikita Kucherov’s eighth of the season. Then Nikita Kucherov gets his second of the night followed by Brayden Point getting his sixth of the year, both goals being on the Tampa Bay power play, to give the Bolts the 4-1 lead. In the second, Auston Matthews scored a pair to bring the Maple Leafs within a goal. In the third, Toronto tied the contest with Calle Jarnkrok’s second of the year and then Mitch Marner scored his fifth to give the Maple Leafs the 5-4 lead but then a late goal from Brandon Hagel tied the contest for Tampa Bay. In overtime, Calle Jarnkrok scored the game winner as the Maple Leafs downed the Lightning 6-5.

    Boston Bruins v. Dallas Stars – 8p ET

    • In Dallas, the Stars hosted the Bruins for the lone time during the season and in the first Boston got a pair when John Beecher and Mason Lohrei each scored their first career NHL goals.     • Quinn Hughes would lead the League with seven assists and eight points in three games played for the Vancouver Canucks. To start off his week, Hughes would record three assists in a 5-2 victory over Nashville on Oct. 31st, and then on Nov. 2nd he would record a goal and four assists for five points a dominant 10-1 victory over San Jose. Then to close out the week Hughes would be held off the scoresheet in a 2-0 victory over Dallas on Nov. 4th.

    Second Star – Player (G – VGK)

    • Cam Talbot would go 3-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average, a .963 save percentage, and one shutout in three games played for the Los Angeles Kings. To begin his week Talbot would make 29 saves in a 4-1 victory over Toronto on Oct. 31st. Then on Nov. 2nd he would make 24 saves in a 3-2 victory over Ottawa, and to close out the week Talbot would stop all 24 shots for his first shutout of the season in a 5-0 victory over Philadelphia on Nov. 4th.

    • The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that New York Islanders F Mathew Barzal was fined $5,000 for his hi-stick on Carolina Hurricanes D Tony DeAngleo, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  The fine goes into the NHL’s Player Emergency Fund.

    • Also from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety, Calgary Flames F Andrew Mangiapane was suspended for one game due to his cross-check on Seattle Kraken F Jared McCann Saturday night.  Mangiapane will forfeit $30,208.33 based on his average annual salary.  That money will go into the NHL’s Player Emergency Fund.

    • In the Windy City, the Blackhawks hosted the Devils for the lone time on the season and in the first, Chiacgo took the 1-0 lead with Taylor Hall’s second of the year but New Jersey got a pair when Dawson Mercer and Max Willman scored.
