NHL Daily – Two Games, Same Score

On a night with two games and the same score, there would be a fine and a suspension plus more upsetting news from Chicago.

News

  • The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that New York Islanders F Mathew Barzal was fined $5,000 for his hi-stick on Carolina Hurricanes D Tony DeAngleo, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  The fine goes into the NHL’s Player Emergency Fund.

  • Also from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety, Calgary Flames F Andrew Mangiapane was suspended for one game due to his cross-check on Seattle Kraken F Jared McCann Saturday night.  Mangiapane will forfeit $30,208.33 based on his average annual salary.  That money will go into the NHL’s Player Emergency Fund.

New Jersey Devils v. Chicago Blackhawks – 7p ET

  • In the Windy City, the Blackhawks hosted the Devils for the lone time on the season and in the first, Chiacgo took the 1-0 lead with Taylor Hall’s second of the year but New Jersey got a pair when Dawson Mercer and Max Willman scored. After a scoreless second, the Devils took the two goal lead when Curtis Lazar scored his second but Chicago crawled to within a goal when Ryan Donato scored his third of the year. Then, New Jersey closed the door on the game when Michael McLeod scored an empty netter as the Devils defeated the Blackhawks 4-2.

Vegas Golden Knights v. Anaheim Ducks – 8p ET

  • In Anaheim, the Ducks hosted the Golden Knights in a divisional matchup and in the first Vegas took the 1-0 lead when Ivan Barbashev scored his fourth of the year. In the second, Jack Eichel’s sixth put the Golden Knights up 2-0. In the third, Anaheim got on the board when Adam Henrique scored a power play goal and then Sam Carrick tied the contest with his second of the year. Then, Anaheim took the lead when Mason McTavish scored his sixth and then Sam Carrick’s empty netter gave the Ducks the 4-2 win over the Golden Knights.
