  • Caps Unveil Alternate Jersey

    Caps Unveil Alternate Jersey

This morning to celebrate captain Alex Ovechkin’s 39th birthday, the Washington Capitals announced the return of their Reverse Retro 2.0 jersey as this season’s 50th Anniversary alternate jersey.

Per the Capitals press release, the Capitals are bringing back the black Screaming Eagle jerseys that they previously wore in the 2022-23 season as part of the Reverse Retro 2.0 program for six home games. The jersey will don the blue, black, and bronze color scheme, and has the Capitol Building displayed on the shoulders. The design is reminiscent of the Capitals’ jersey, first introduced in 1995.

the Capitals will begin wearing the jersey on November 6th against the Nashville Predators, and the final game they will wear it this season will be at the home finale on April 13th against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

I personally love that these jerseys are coming back as I’ve always been a fan of the Screaming Eagle jerseys. Personally, I would have loved to have seen the Capitals bring these jerseys back, but in the original blue that they wore from the 1995-96 season through the 1999-2000 season. I would have also of loved to have seen the Capitals swap the bronze with gold like the way the Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings did for their 50th anniversary seasons. But I’m happy they did the Screaming Eagle as the alternate for this season. I’ve always been a fan of the Screaming Eagle jerseys and colors.

The jerseys will be available online, at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex store, and the Capital One Arena Team Store beginning Thursday, Oct. 10. Fans attending the Oct. 10th 50 Fest at Capital One Arena are encouraged to visit the Capital One Arena Team Store to purchase the jersey.

  • R.I.P “Johnny Hockey”

    R.I.P “Johnny Hockey”

    Good morning hockey world,

Unfortunately we all woke up this morning to the tragic news that star winger of the Columbus Blue Jackets (formerly Calgary Flames) Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed as they were bicycling on County Route 551 in New Jersey and were struck by a car. The brothers were back in their hometown of Salem, NJ for their sister Katie’s wedding in Philadelphia which was supposed to be today. It has been reported that the driver has been arrested and is suspected of driving under the influence.

I was in complete and utter shock to hear the news when I opened up my phone to our TXHT group chat to see that Johnny Gaudreau had tragically passed away. Gaudreau has been one of my favorite players to watch as he was quite a highly skilled playmaker despite his small frame. Being that he was from my home state of New Jersey also had its appeal and made me a fan of him as well. He was famously known going back to his college days at Boston College and throughout the National Hockey League as “Johnny Hockey”. In college, Gaudreau helped Boston College win a NCAA national title and won two consecutive Hockey East player of the year awards while also winning the Hobey Baker award as the NCAA’s best ice hockey player back in 2014. When he made it to the NHL, Gaudreau’s impact was made right away and was a Calder finalist in his rookie year back in 2015 for the Calgary Flames (before becoming a Columbus Blue Jacket in free agency back in 2022), being a multiple time NHL All Star, and winner of the Lady Bang trophy for being the most sportsmanlike player back in 2017. He has also represented Team USA on the international stage at multiple World Championship tournaments at the junior and professional level as well. Johnny Gaudreau played in 763 games and recorded 243 goals with 500 assists for a total of 743 total points in the National Hockey League.

We all as hockey fans will miss watching “Johnny Hockey” dazzle us with his amazing hockey sense and skills out there on the ice. I still remember to this day the amazing play he made for Boston College in the NCAA title game in his freshman year no less to help seal the victory for his team and the championship. Off the ice, Johnny was an even more amazing person who was popular throughout the league and helped many charitable causes. Included below is a statement from both the Columbus Blue Jackets and Calgary Flames on his passing for whom both teams Gaudreau played for in the NHL. To pay tribute to him, here are some of Johnny Gaudreau’s best highlights which will include his famous play he made in the NCAA title game. R.I.P Johnny Hockey, we will miss you!

  • TXHT Jersey Share – My 1st Game Issued Jersey

TXHT Jersey Share – My 1st Game Issued Jersey

Ladies and gentlemen welcome to another edition of TXHT Jersey Share where today we take a look at Ethan Bear’s Home Set 3 game issued Washington Capitals jersey courtesy of MeiGray.

With our final edition of this summer’s TXHT Jersey Share series, we cover our third Ethan Bear jersey of the series. This time around I got my first ever Game Issued jersey. The difference with a Game Issued compared to a Game Worn is that it was prepared for the player to wear, but was never worn in a game.

The jersey that you see here, is Bear’s Game Issued home jersey. He never got to wear in a game due to him being in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

It’s interesting having a Game Issued jersey for a player. While it is cool that it was prepared for the player, it also doesn’t have the same lore as a Game Worn jersey. But, it is cool to see some of the differences that come with a Game Worn jersey.

For instance, the spot where the player tracker would go, the trainers don’t cut open the slot for it. Also, MeiGray notes on the fight strap that the jersey was not worn in a game.

Overall, it is still a cool jersey to have in my collection. It’s also great to know that Ethan is doing great since being in the Player Assistance Program. I look forward to seeing back on the ice and in a Caps uniform again this upcoming season.

  • TXHT Jersey Share – Getting Geeky with Goldar

TXHT Jersey Share – Getting Geeky with Goldar

Ladies and gentlemen welcome to another edition of TXHT Jersey Share where today we take a look at Geeky Jerseys‘ Goldar (Power Rangers) jersey.

For the first time in a little over a year, we return with a new Power Rangers themed jersey from Geeky Jerseys. Last year they released a special 30th Anniversary jersey. This year they pay tribute to one of the Rangers top villains.

Geeky Jerseys would release a jersey featuring Goldar. Goldar would be one of the longest running villains the Rangers would face dating back to the debut episode “Day of the Dumpster”. We would see Goldar in all three seasons of Mighty Morphin, including the 10 episode Alien Rangers arc. Goldar would also appear in Zeo, In Space, HyperForce, and Beast Morphers.

    The Jersey

For the jersey itself, they would do a really nice Goldar crest. The font would be in a modified version of the Power Rangers font. On the back we would see Goldar’s name in the same font used on the Rangers jersey for their name on the back. The font for the numbers has a bit more of an edge to them which looks really nice.

The primary color for the jersey would be a goldenrod color. It would feature red and black piping on the base and on the sleeves. This would really capture the essence of Goldar and his look.

On the shoulders, we would get different patches. The left shoulder would feature a gem. While on the right should, there would be five coins. This would be a limited edition jersey with only 250 made. I would get jersey 47 out of 250.

This is a great jersey from Geeky Jerseys, and I look forward to wearing it to a pair of Power Ranger conventions really soon.

  • TXHT Jersey Share – Honoring the Yotes

TXHT Jersey Share – Honoring the Yotes

Ladies and gentlemen welcome to another edition of TXHT Jersey Share where today we take a look at the Arizona Coyotes Reverse Retro 2.0 jersey.

Back in April, it was a rough time if you were a player or fan of the Arizona Coyotes. It was announced that the team was being deactivated with all players, staff, and draft picks were being transferred to the new Utah franchise.

When news dropped that the Coyotes would be no more, I went to their team store online and I picked up their Reverse Retro 2.0 jersey. I knew that they had been selling them throughout this season, so getting one was really easy. However, I did pay full price for the jersey.

For the Coyotes, they did the same jersey for Reverse Retro 2.0 that they did for the first run of the Reverse Retro program. Only change they did was change the primary color from purple to desert sienna. While I liked the original green alternate, and the purple Reverse Retro versions, this one really got the desert aesthetic really nicely. The jersey does feature the Gila River Casino ad patch, which is a shame and ironic at the same time.

Overall, I really like this jersey, and I’m really glad that I was able to get one shortly after the NHL made it’s announcement about the Coyotes. It definitely goes nicely with the rest of my Reverse Retro jerseys too.

  • TXHT Jersey Share – Being a West All Star

TXHT Jersey Share – Being a West All Star

Ladies and gentlemen welcome to another edition of TXHT Jersey Share where today we take a look at the Western Conference Reverse Retro 2.0 All Star jersey from the 2023 All Star Game courtesy of the St. Louis Blues.

We’re back to it with the Reverse Retro program, and we have the St. Louis Blues to thank for this one. As mentioned in my past article about the Eastern Conference jersey, I’m a fan of the mid 1990’s All Star jerseys. They were hands down the best jerseys the NHL had. So, when the NHL brought them back in 2023 through the Reverse Retro 2.0 program, I was all in.

The West’s jersey would have a white primary compared to the East’s black. Also, the jersey would use the electric blue called Biscayne blue under the star and on the sleeve, where on the East jersey it would be white. So almost like a color swap in a sense.

I was able to obtain this jersey through the St. Louis Blues and their online team store STL Authentics. They still have the jersey in stock online, and on sale. I was very surprised that they still had anything from the 2023 All Star Game available. So it was natural for me to take advantage of this deal.

This was a great find, and one I’m really happy to have in my collection.
