This morning to celebrate captain Alex Ovechkin’s 39th birthday, the Washington Capitals announced the return of their Reverse Retro 2.0 jersey as this season’s 50th Anniversary alternate jersey.
Per the Capitals press release, the Capitals are bringing back the black Screaming Eagle jerseys that they previously wore in the 2022-23 season as part of the Reverse Retro 2.0 program for six home games. The jersey will don the blue, black, and bronze color scheme, and has the Capitol Building displayed on the shoulders. The design is reminiscent of the Capitals’ jersey, first introduced in 1995.
the Capitals will begin wearing the jersey on November 6th against the Nashville Predators, and the final game they will wear it this season will be at the home finale on April 13th against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
I personally love that these jerseys are coming back as I’ve always been a fan of the Screaming Eagle jerseys. Personally, I would have loved to have seen the Capitals bring these jerseys back, but in the original blue that they wore from the 1995-96 season through the 1999-2000 season. I would have also of loved to have seen the Capitals swap the bronze with gold like the way the Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings did for their 50th anniversary seasons. But I’m happy they did the Screaming Eagle as the alternate for this season. I’ve always been a fan of the Screaming Eagle jerseys and colors.
The jerseys will be available online, at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex store, and the Capital One Arena Team Store beginning Thursday, Oct. 10. Fans attending the Oct. 10th 50 Fest at Capital One Arena are encouraged to visit the Capital One Arena Team Store to purchase the jersey.
