    • The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that they have fined Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Conor Timmins.
      • Timmins would be fined $2,864.58 for cross checking Seattle Kraken forward Brandon Tanev on Sunday night.
      • The fine is the maximum allowed per the CBA.

    Winnipeg Jets v. Boston Bruins – 7p ET

    • In Boston, the Bruins welcomed the Jets back to town and in the first Jakub Lauko scored his second to put Boston up 1-0 lead but then Vladislav Namestnikov scored his sixth to tie the game for Winnipeg. Then, Charlie Coyle scored his 17th to put the B’s in the driver seat. After a scoreless second, Jake DeBrucsk scored a shorthanded goal to give Boston the 3-1 lead and then Brad Marchand scored an empty netter to give the Bruins the 4-1 win over the Jets.

    Vegas Golden Knights v. New Jersey – 7p ET

    • In New Jersey, the Devils welcomed the Golden Knights back to the Garden State and in the first Vegas took the 1-0 lead with Pavel Dorofeyev’s seventh of the year but then New Jersey got on the board with Nico Hischier’s 13th of the year. Then, New Jersey took the lead when Curtis Lazar scored his fifth of the year. In the second, New Jersey took the two goal lead when Tyler Toffoli scored his 18th of the year, but then Vegas got a quartet of goals when Jonathan Marchessault scored a pair to tie the game, Chandler Stephenson scored his eighth and then Nicolas Roy score his eighth. However, New Jersey got withing a goal when Tyler Toffoli scored his second of the night. In the third, Curtis Lazar score his second of the night to tie the game 5-5. In the overtime frame, Tyler Toffoli completed the hat trick to give the Devils the 6-5 win over the Golden Knights.

    Florida Panthers v. Nashville Predators – 8p ET

    • In Music City USA, the Predators welcomed the Panthers back to Nashville and after a scoreless first, Florida took the 1-0 lead when Sam Reinhart scored a power play goal but then Nashville tied the game when Jeremy Lauzon scored his fifth of the year. In the third, Carter Verhaeghe scored his 24th to Florida back in the lead and then Brandon Montour scored a power play goal to give the Cats the two goal lead. Then, Matthew Tkachuk scored his 13th of the year as the Panthers strung out the Predators for the 4-1 win.

    NHL Stars of the Week – Kirill Thrills for Top Honors

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of January 15th through 21st.

    First Star – Kirill Kaprizov (LW – MIN)

    • Kirill Kaprizov would record five goals and three assists for eight points in four games played for the Minnesota Wild, and to open up his week Kaprizov would record an assist in a 5-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Jan. 15th. On Jan. 18th in a 7-3 loss to Tampa Bay he would record an assist, and on Jan. 19th Kaprizov would tally two goals and an assist in a 6-4 vin over Florida. Then to close out the week Kaprizov would record a hat trick in a 5-2 victory over Carolina on Jan. 21st.

    Second Star – David Pastrnak (RW – BOS)

    • David Pastrnak would also record five goals along with two assists for seven points in three games for the Boston Bruins. To start off the week Pastrnak would record a goal and an assist in a 3-0 victory over New Jersey on Jan. 15th, and then on Jan. 18th he would record a hat trick in a 5-2 victory over Colorado. Then on Jan. 20th to close out the week Pastrnak would record a goal and an assist in a 9-4 victory over Montreal.

    Third Star – Logan Thompson (G – VGK)

    • Logan Thompson would backstop the Vegas Golden Knights with a perfect 3-0-0 record with a 1.34 goals against average, and a .956 save percentage in three games played. To open up his week Thompson would stop 34 of 35 shots faced in a 4-1 victory over Nashville on Jan. 15th, and then he would make 29 saves in a 5-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Jan. 18th. Then to close out the week Thompson would make 23 saves in a 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh on Jan. 20th.

    • The Calgary Flames announced that forward Dillon Dube will be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team.
      • Dube will be tending to his mental health, and is under the care of health professionals.

    Ottawa Senators v. Philadelphia Flyers – 1p ET

    • In Philadelphia, the Flyers faced off against the Senators in a matinee match-up. In the first, the Flyers took the 1-0 with a power play goal from Egor Zamula and then he ended up scoring again to put Philadelphia up 2-0. In the second, Zack MacEwen scored his second of the year to put Ottawa one the board but then the Flyers re-took the two goal lead when Joel Farabee scored a power play goal, his 17th of the year. Then, Ottawa got within a goal when Tim Stützle scored his ninth of the year. In the third, Claude Giroux scored his 14th of the year to tie the contest and then Vladimir Tarasenko put Ottawa in the lead with his 12th of the year. Then, Tim Stützle scored an empty net goal, his second of the night, as the Senators came from behind to defeat the Flyers 5-3.

    Minnesota Wild v. Carolina Hurricanes – 5p ET

    • In Raleigh, the Hurricanes welcomed the Wild and in the first, Carolina took the 1-0 lead when Martin Necas scored his 11th of the year but then Minnesota evened the score when Kirill Kaprizov scored his 16th of the year. In the second, Kirill Kaprizov scored his second of the year to the Wild in the lead. In the third, Carolina evened the score with Michael Bunting’s 10th of the year but then Minnesota got back in the lead when Joel Eriksson Ek scored his 19th of the year. Then, Kirill Kaprizov got the hat trick with an empty netter to put Minnesota up by two and then Jake Middleton closed the game with an empty net goal of his own as the Wild struck down the Hurricanes 5-2.

    Tampa Bay Lightning v. Detroit Red Wings – 7p ET

    • In the Motor City, the Red Wings welcomed the Lightning and in the first Tampa Bay took the 1-0 lead with Victor Hedman’s ninth of the year but then Detroit tied the game when Lucas Raymond scored his 13th of the year. In the second, Daniel Sprong put Detroit in the lead with his 12th of the year. After the scoreless third, the Red Wings squeaked by the Lightning for the 2-1 victory.

    Dallas Stars v. New York Islanders – 730p ET

    • In Long Island, the Islanders welcomed the Stars back to New York and in the first Alexander Romanov scored his fifth of the year to put New York in the lead. In the second, Dallas tied the game when Jason Robertson scored his 16th of the year and then the Stars took the lead with Nils Lundkvist scored his second of the year. In the third, the Isles tied the game when Hudson Fasching scored his third of the year. In overtime, Bo Horvat scored the game winner, his 19th goal of the year, to lift the Islanders past the Stars 3-2.

      • The Islanders would name Patrick Roy as their new Head Coach.

    • The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that they have suspended Florida Panthers forward William Lockwood.
      • Lockwood would be suspended for three games for goaltender interference against Minnesota Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury on Friday night.
      • Lockwood will forfeit $12,109.38 per the CBA and based on his average annual salary.

    • In Buffalo for an early afternoon matinee the Sabres would play host to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and in the first period Nick Paul and Tyler Motte would score to give the Bolts the 2-0 lead. In the second period Dylan Cozens would score to get the Sabres on the board and back within one.     • In Arizona the Coyotes would take on the Nashville Predators, and in the first period Clayton Keller would score to give the Yotes the 1-0 lead. In the second period Keller would net his second of the game while Roman Josi would score for the Preds and Michael Carcone would strike for the Yotes to have the 3-1 lead. Then in the third period Tommy Novak would score for the Preds, but it would not be enough as the Coyotes would hold on to defeat the Predators 3-2.

      • Pinto has signed a one year deal worth $775,000.
      • Pinto is eligible to join the Senators on Saturday after serving a 41 game suspension for violating the NHL’s sports wagering rules.

    • The Vancouver Canucks announced that they have extended General Manager Jim Rutherford’s contract.

    • The Carolina Hurricanes claimed goaltender Spencer Martin off of waivers from Columbus.

    • The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that they have fined Arizona Coyotes forward Liam O’Brien.
      • O’Brien would be fined $2,018.23 for roughing Vancouver Canucks forward Sam Lafferty on Thursday night.
      • The fine is the maximum allowed per the CBA.

    • The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that they have suspended Seattle Kraken forward Yanni Gourde.
      • Gourde would be suspended for two games for charging Edmonton Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm on Thursday.
      • Gourde will forfeit $53,819.44 per the CBA and based on his average annual salary.

    • The Washington Capitals announced that they have signed forward Aliaksei Protas to a contract extension.
      • Protas would sign a five year contract that would carry an AAV of $3.375 million per season.

    • In Carolina the Hurricanes would play host to the Detroit Red Wings, and in the first period Klim Kostin would open the scoring for the Wings, but Jordan Martinook would strike for the Canes to tie the game at one.     Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of January 8th through 14th.

    First Star – Elias Pettersson (C – VAN)

    • Elias Pettersson would record five goals and four assists for nine points in four games played for the Vancouver Canucks. Pettersson would open up his week with two goals and two assists in a 6-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Jan. 8th, and then on Jan. 9th he would record a goal in a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders. Then on Jan. 11th he would record two goals and two assists for his second four point game of the week in a 4-3 victory over Pittsburgh, and to close out his week Pettersson would be held off of the scoresheet in a 1-0 victory over Buffalo.

    • Blake Coleman would record four goals and three assists for seven points in three games played for the Calgary Flames.
