• The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that they have fined Vancouver Canucks defenseman Nikita Zadorov.
  • Zadorov would be fined $5,000 for cross checking Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid on Sunday night.
  • The fine is the maximum allowed per the CBA.

• DoPS also announced that Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy has been suspended.
  • Soucy would be suspended for one playoff game for cross checking Oilers forward Connor McDavid on Sunday night.

• The NHL and NHLPA announced that Colorado Avalanche forward Valeri Nichushkin has been placed in Stage 3 of the Player Assistance Program.
  • Under the terms of the joint agreement, Nichushkin has been suspended without pay for a minimum of six months, then he can apply for reinstatement.

Carolina Hurricanes v. New York Rangers – Game 5 – 7p ET

• In New York, the Hurricanes look to survive another game against the Rangers. After a scoreless first, New York got on the board with a shorthanded goal from Jacob Trouba. In the third, Carolina tied the game with a goal from Jordan Staal and then Evgeny Kuznetsov scored his fourth of the postseason to put the Canes in the lead. Jordan Martinook then got his second of the playoffs to put Carolina up two and then Martin Necas hit the empty net as the Hurricanes downed the Rangers 4-1 to come within a game of the series.
