Game Recap:
Tonight, both the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders conclude their regular season against each other as they prepare for the Stanley Cup Playoffs beginning next week. The first period was a very sleep one between both teams as it ended with a 0-0 tie going into the 2nd.
In the second period, the Islanders got on the board first with a goal by Valteri Filpula at the 2:55 mark. That would be the only goal for the period. After two periods, the Islanders would lead 1-0 over the Capitals.
Valteri Filpula of the Islanders would add his second goal of the game to give the Islanders a 2-0 lead at the 10:54 mark. Matt Martin would seal the victory for the Islanders as he scored an empty net goal to make it 3-0. Up next for the Capitals and Islanders is the Stanley Cup playoffs which begin next week. The Capitals this past week clinched the Metropolitan Division and will square off against the Carolina Hurricanes as they defeated the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins gaining one point to lock up the third spot in the division. The Islanders will square off against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round as a result of the Penguins gaining an additional point in the standings.
