    Leafs Acquire Defencemen from Ducks

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired 32 year old journey man Steven Oleksy from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Marlies forward Adam Cracknall.

Oleksy is a right handed shot defencemen know more for his physicality and defensive ability then anything. Oleksy will probably serve as depth on the blueline unless Mike Babcock is not confident in Igor Ozhiganov, Martin Marincin or Justin Holl. This could also possibly lead to other deals in the next few weeks. Stay tuned.

In the Anaheim Ducks 6-5 win over the New Jersey Devils, three Anaheim players would have multi-point efforts in the contest.

Both teams would start out the scoring fast and early when they combined for three goals in the first 2:47.  It would be the fastest time in which two teams would combine for three goals to start a contest this season.

    EDMONTON 1, Calgary 0

Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid would score the lone goal in the contest, which would be his 22nd game-winning goal since the 2015-16 season, good for a tie for fourth place with three other players.

At the 18:06 mark, Boston’s Kaleigh Fratkin would score her first goal of the season, with Alyssa Gagliardi getting her second assist on the season.  28 seconds later at the 18:34 mark, Mallory Souliotis would score her third goal on the season.  Toni Ann Miano would gain her second assist on the season.

    Analysis

Leafs came out strong in this one with Kasperi Kapanen scoring his 11th of the season but then bad goaltending and solid defence from the Red Wings caught up to them as Garrett Sparks allowed 3 goals, 2 of which were pretty soft.

    Analysis:

Leafs played a terrible 2nd period. Terrible defensive zone coverage and couldn’t get any pucks through. Leafs need to put it into gear or else this game is done.

    Need to Do:

    Everything to the net.

    Analysis:

Leafs come out flying and score 3 goals in the 3rd courtesy of Tavares, Hyman and Johnsson to bring it to overtime! All out aggressive play in the 3rd and it worked.

    Overtime:

    Detroit Goal – 02:48 – Dylan Larkin (11) assisted by Gustav Nyquist(19)

    Analysis:

John Tavares with a giveaway and Dylan Larkin makes no mistake beating Garrett Sparks five-hole. Leafs come back from down 3 in the 3rd but lose in Overtime. Still gain a much needed point.
