    • The Minnesota Wild announced that defenseman Jared Spurgeon will miss the remainder of the season.
      • Spurgeon is scheduled to have hip surgery on Feb. 6th, and then he will have back surgery approximately four weeks later.

    Chicago Blackhawks v. Buffalo Sabres – 7p ET

    • In Buffalo, the Sabres welcomed the Blackhawks back to Western New York and after a scoreless first Buffalo took the 1-0 lead when Zemgus Girgensons scored his fourth goal of the year. In the third, JJ Peterka netted his 14th to put Buffalo up 2-0 and then Rasmus Dahlin scored a power play goal, his 13th of the year as the Sabres went to shutout the Blackhawks 3-0.

    Colorado Avalanche v. Boston Bruins – 7p ET

    • In Boston, the Bruins welcomed the Avalanche back to Beantown and in the first Boston took 1-0 lead when David Pastrnak scored his 27th and then Jakub Lauko scored his first of the year to put the Bruins up 2-0. Then, Miles Wood scored his eighth of the year to put Colorado on the board but then Jake DeBrusk scored his 10th of the year to put Boston back up two. In the second, Nathan MacKinnon scored his 24th to bring the Avs within a goal once again. In the third, David Pastrnak scored a pair, a power play goal and an empty netter, to complete the hat trick and give the Bruins the 5-2 win over the Avalanche.

    Montreal Canadiens v. Ottawa Senators – 7p ET

    • In Ottawa, the Senators and Canadiens faced off and in the first Ottawa got a pair when Brady Tkachuk scored his 19th of the year and then Tim Stützle scored his eighth of the year but then Montreal got on the board when Cole Caufield scored his 15th of the year. In the second, Rourke Chartier scored his second of the year to put the Sens up 3-1 and then Vladimir Tarasenko scored his 11th to put Ottawa up three. In the third, Mathieu Joseph scored his seventh to put the Sens up 5-1 and then Parker Kelly scored his fifth on an empty net to give Ottawa the 6-1 lead. Then, Michael Pezzetta scored his second of the year for Montreal but the Senators ended up getting the 6-2 victory over the Canadiens.

    Dallas Stars v. Philadelphia Flyers – 7p ET

    • In Philadelphia, the Flyers welcomed the Stars and in the first Philly took the 1-0 lead when Sean Walker scored his fifth of the year. In the second, Owen Tippett scored his 17th of the year to put the Flyers up two but then Tyler Seguin scored his 17th to put Dallas on the board. In the third, Cam Atkinson scored his 11th of the year to give Philadelphia the 3-1 lead and then Scott Laughton scored on a penalty shot to put Philly up three. Then, Owen Tippett scored his second of the night as the Flyers breezed by the Stars for the 5-1 win.

    Minnesota Wild v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 7p ET

    • In Tamp, the Lighting hosted the Wild and in the first Joel Eriksson Ek’s 18th of the year gave Minnesota the 1-0 lead but then Victor Hedman responded with his eighth of the year to even the score. In the second, Anthony Cirelli scored on the power play to give the Bolts the 2-1 lead and then Walterri Merela scored his first NHL goal to give Tampa Bay the two goal lead. Marco Rossi then scored his 13th of the year to bring the Wild within a goal but then Brayden Point notched his 21st to give the Lightning the two goal lead back. Then, Jake Middleton scored his sixth of the year to bring Minnesota within a goal once more. In the third, Steven Stamkos and Michael Eyssimont each scored a power play goal to put Tampa Bay up three and then Anthony Cirelli scored his second of the night to give the Lightning the 7-3 victory over the Wild.

    St. Louis Blues v. Washington Capitals – 7p ET

    • In the Nation’s Capital, Washington hosted St. Louis in the front half of a home and home series and in the first T.J. Oshie scored a power play goal, his fifth of the year to put Washington up 1-0. Nathan Walker then responded when he scored his second of the year to even the contest. In the second, Washington got a pair when Nicolas Aube-Kubel scored his fifth of the year and then T.J. Oshie scored his second of the night to put the Caps up two. In the third, Dylan Strome scored his 16th of the year to put Washington up three but then Nathan Walker scored his second of the night to bring the Blues within two. Then, T.J. Oshie got the hat trick as the Capitals defeated the Blues 5-2.

    • Another game that would have their time bumped up to an earlier time due to weather, the Pittsburgh Penguins would host the Seattle Kraken, and after a scoreless first period Drew O’Connor and Sidney Crosby would score to give the Pens the 2-0 lead.     NHL Stars of the Week – Pettersson Earns Top Honors

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of January 8th through 14th.

    First Star – Elias Pettersson (C – VAN)

    • Elias Pettersson would record five goals and four assists for nine points in four games played for the Vancouver Canucks. Pettersson would open up his week with two goals and two assists in a 6-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Jan. 8th, and then on Jan. 9th he would record a goal in a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders. Then on Jan. 11th he would record two goals and two assists for his second four point game of the week in a 4-3 victory over Pittsburgh, and to close out his week Pettersson would be held off of the scoresheet in a 1-0 victory over Buffalo.

    Second Star – Blake Coleman (C – CAL)

    • Blake Coleman would record four goals and three assists for seven points in three games played for the Calgary Flames. To open up his week Coleman would score two goals in a 6-3 victory over Ottawa on Jan. 9th, and then on Jan. 11th he would record a goal and two assists in a 6-2 victory over Arizona. Then to close out the week, Coleman would record a goal and an assist in a 3-1 victory over Vegas on Jan. 13th.

    • At Madison Square Garden the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers would faceoff for the second time in 24 hours, and in the first period Artemi Panarin and Alexis Lafreniere would score in the opening minute and closing minute respectively to give the Rangers the 2-0 lead. Then in the second period TJ Oshie would score to get the Caps on the board, but it wouldn’t be enough as it would be a scoreless third period for the Rangers to defeat the Capitals 2-1 and split the weekend series.

    Detroit Red Wings v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 730p ET

    • In Toronto, the Maple Leafs and Red Wings faced off in an Original Six battle and after a scoreless first, Toronto took the 1-0 lead when Pontus Holmberg scored his second of the year but then Detroit tied the game with Dylan Larkin’s 17th of the year. Mitch Marner then scored his 18th of the year to put Toronto back in the lead. In the third, Daniel Sprong scored his 11th of the year to even the score once more but then Andrew Copp’s eighth of the year put Detroit in the lead. Then, Lucas Raymond scored an empty net goal to give the Red Wings the 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

    New York Rangers v. Washington Capitals – 1p ET

    • In Washington DC for the first game of a home and home back to back series the Capitals would play host to the New York Rangers for what would also be the first game of a 16 game slate in the NHL, and in the first period Adam Fox would open the scoring for the Rangers, but Anthony Mantha would score to tie the game at one for the Caps. In the second period Fox would net his second of the game for the Rangers to take the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period Nic Dowd and TJ Oshie would score to give the Capitals the 3-2 victory over the Rangers.

    Vancouver Canucks v. Buffalo Sabres – 4p ET

    • In Buffalo the Sabres would take on the Vancouver Canucks, and after a scoreless first period Sam Lafferty would score the lone goal of the game to give the Canucks the 1-0 victory over the Sabres. Thatcher Demko would stop all 26 shots faced for the shutout victory while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen would stop 22 out of 23 shots faced in a valiant effort for the Sabres.

    San Jose Sharks v. Ottawa Senators – 4p ET

    • In Ottawa the San Jose Sharks would come to town to take on the Senators, and in the first period Claude Giroux and Thomas Chabot would score for the Sens for the 2-0 lead, but Anthony Duclair would score to get the Sharks back within one. In the second period Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Kevin Labanc would score to give the Sharks the 3-2 lead, but Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson would score for the Sens to reclaim the lead. Then in the third period Filip Zadina would score to tie the game at four for the Sharks, but Vladimir Tarasenko would score with five seconds left in regulation to give the Senators the 5-4 victory over the Sharks.

    New Jersey Devils v. Florida Panthers – 6p ET

    • In Florida the Panthers would take on the New Jersey Devils, and in the first period Alexander Holtz and Jesper Bratt would score to give the Devils the 2-0 lead. In the second period Erik Haula would score to give the Devils the three goal lead, but Sam Reinhart would score to get the Panthers on the board. Then in the third period John Marino would score to give the Devils the 4-1 victory over the Panthers.

    • In Carolina the Hurricanes would take on the Pittsburgh Penguins, and in the first period Brett Pesce and Jordan Martinook would score for the Canes to take on the 2-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust would score to tie the game at two for the Pens to send the game to overtime.     • In Columbus the Blue Jackets would host the Seattle Kraken, and in the first period Ivan Provorov would net a pair of goals for the Jackets while Jordan Eberle and Jared McCann would score for the Kraken for the 2-2 tie. In the second period Kirill Marchenko would score for the Jackets to take the 3-2 lead, but goals from Tye Kartye and Oliver Bjorkstrand would give the Kraken the 4-3 lead.
