Today the Professional Women’s Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of March 4th through 10th.
First Star – Katerina Mrazova (C – OTT)
Mrázová, who put up multi-point efforts in both games last week, is one of the PWHL’s ‘3 Stars of the Week’ for the first time. The 31-year-old scored twice against Minnesota on March 5, her first multi-goal game of the season. One of the goals was scored on the power play, giving her three with the advantage this season – second-most in the PWHL. Mrázová followed up her performance in Minnesota with two more firsts, against Montréal on March 10: her three-assist game, a season-high in points, was her first multi-assist game this year. Two assists came by way of her team’s league-best power play and one of them set up the game-winning-goal — helping propel Ottawa to a 4-2 win that provided three crucial points in the standings and drew them even with Boston for fourth place. Mrázová is on a six-game point streak, which ties her for the longest such streak in the PWHL this season. Mrázová finished with two goals and three assists last week, which led all PWHL players in scoring. She now leads Ottawa with 13 points and sits tied for fourth in league scoring.

Second Star – Kristen Campbell (G – TOR)
Campbell makes her second appearance on the PWHL ‘3 Stars of the Week’ list after leading her team to two victories last week. Campbell had a .978 save percentage, 0.50 goals against average and secured her third shutout of the season, the most of any PWHL goaltender. The 26-year-old started her week by backstopping Toronto to a 3-1 win at home against Boston. Then, on March 8, Campbell shut out first-place Montréal for the second time this season, allowing her team to draw even with them at the top of the standings. The Brandon, Manitoba native now has 11 wins on the season, more than double any other PWHL goaltender. She also is on a personal 10- game win streak, which began on January 20, while her team has won nine in a row.

Third Star – Brianne Jenner (RW – OTT)
Jenner had a goal and three assists in two games last week, second only to #1 Star and linemate Kateřina Mrázová. Ottawa’s captain had two multi-point games as her team secured four of six possible points and moved into fourth place in the standings. Against Minnesota on March 5, Jenner had two assists—her first multi-assist game of the season. Then, against Montréal, Jenner scored the game’s opening goal and provided the primary assist on the game-winner, both power-play points. The 32-year-old from Oakville, ON now sits first in assists on her team with seven and second in scoring with 10 points.

St. Louis Blues v. Boston Bruins – 7p ET
In Boston, the Bruins hosted the Blues and in the first Kasperi Kapanen scored his fifth of the year to give St. Louis the 1-0 lead and then a power play goal from Robert Thomas gave the Blues the 2-0 lead. In the second, Kevin Hayes 12th of the season put St. Louis up three and then the Blues went up four with Brandon Saad’s 19th of the year. In the third, Boston got on the board when David Pastrnak scored his 41st of the year but Alexey Toropchenko hit the empty net as the Blues blew by the Bruins 5-1.
In New York City, the Rangers hosted the Devils and after a scoreless first, Mika Zibanejad scored his 20th to put New York up 1-0 and then Erik Gustafsson’s sixth put the Blueshirts up 2-0. In the third, New Jersey got on the board when Simon Nemc scored his third of the year but Vincent Trocheck got an empty net goal as the Rangers knocked off the Devils 3-1.
In Winnipeg, the Jets hosted the Capitals for the lone time on the year and in the first Winnipeg took the 1-0 lead with Neal Pionk’s fifth of the year. In the second, Alex Iafallo scored his ninth of the year to put Winnipeg up 2-0. In the third, Kyle Connor scored his 27th as the Jets got the 3-0 shutout victory over the Capitals.

Nathan MacKinnon would record three goals and seven assists for ten points in three games played for the Colorado Avalanche. To open up the week, MacKinnon would record two goals and two assists in a 5-0 victory over Chicago on March 4th, and then on March 6th he would record a goal and three assists in a 7-2 victory over Detroit. Then to close out the week MacKinnon would record two assists in a 2-1 overtime victory over Minnesota on March 8th.

Second Star – Pavel Zacha (C – BOS)
Pavel Zacha would record five goals and two assists for seven points in four games played for the Boston Bruins. To open up the week Zacha would record two goals in a 4-1 victory over Toronto on March 4th, and then on March 5th he would record the Bruins lone goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Edmonton. Then on March 7th he would record an assist in a 4-1 victory over Toronto, and to close out the week Zacha would record two goals and an assist in a 5-1 victory over Pittsburgh on March 9th.

Third Star – Thatcher Demko (G – VAN)
Thatcher Demko would go 3-0-0 with a .81 goals against average and a.969 save percentage in three games played for the Vancouver Canucks. Demko would open up his week with 23 saves in a 2-1 overtime victory over Los Angeles on March 5th, and then on March 7th he would make 27 saves in a 3-1 victory over Vegas. Then on March 9th Demko would make 12 saves before leaving the game due to injury in a 5-0 victory over Winnipeg. Demko would share the shutout with Casey DeSmith (10 saves) for the shutout victory.

New York v. Boston – 3p ET
To kick off Sunday in the PWHL, Boston would play host to New York, and in the first period Hannah Brandt would score to give Boston the 1-0 lead. In the second period Elizabeth Giguere and Jaime Bourbonnais would score to give New York the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period Sophie Shirley would strike for Boston to tie the game at two and send the game to overtime. In the extra frame Brandt would net her second of the game to give Boston the 3-2 overtime victory over New York.
In the other game of the day Montreal would play host to Ottawa, and in the first period Brianne Jenner would score to give Ottawa the 1-0 lead. In the second period Daryl Watts would score to grow Ottawa’s lead to two. Then in the third period Laura Stacey and Melodie Daoust would score for Montreal, but goals from Aneta Tejralova and Gabbie Hughes would give Ottawa the 4-2 victory over Montreal.

Edmonton Oilers v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 1p ET
In Pittsburgh, the Penguins welcomed the Oilers back to the Steel City and in the first Connor McDavid scored his 24th to put Edmonton up 1-0 and then Mattias Ekholm scored his fifth to give the Oilers the 2-0 lead. Following a scoreless second, Darnell Nurse scored a pair of goals as the Oilers went on to shutout the Penguins 4-0.
In Minnesota, the Wild hosted the Predators and in the first Jonas Brodin scored his seventh of the year to put Minnesota up 1-0 and then Mark Jankowski scored his third of the year as Nashville tied the contest. In the second, Nashville took the lead when Luke Evangelista scored his 14th of the year but Kirill Kaprizov’s 31st of the year tied the game for Minnesota. In the third, Ryan Hartman’s 16th gave the Wild the lead but then Ryan O’Reilly scored a power play goal to tie the game for Nashville. In overtime, Matt Boldy scored his 24th of the year as the Wild got the 4-3 victory of the Predators.
In Raleigh, the Hurricanes hosted the Flames and in the first Jordan Martinook scored his 11th to put Carolina up 1-0 and then Sebastian Aho’s 25th put the Canes up 2-0. In the second, Jalen Chatifeld scored his sixth to put Carolina up 3-0 and then the Canes took the 4-0 lead with Andrei Svechnikov’s 16th of the year. Calgary then got on the board when Dryden Hunt scored his third of the year but Brent Burns got Carolina the four goal lead with his 10th of the year. Seth Jarvis then scored his 20th of the year as Carolina made it a 6-1 game. In the third, Yegor Sharangovich’s 27th of the year brought Calgary within four but Teuvo Teravainen netted his 21st of the year as the Hurricanes blew by the Flames 7-2.
In the Windy City, the Blackhawks took on the Coyotes and in the first Arizona took the 1-0 lead when Clayton Keller scored his 24th of the year. In the second, Clayton Keller scored his second of the night to put Arizona up 2-0 but then Connor Bedard scored his 18th to bring the Blackhawks within a goal. Then, Colin Blackwell scored his sixth of the year to tie the game and then Connor Bedard’s power play goal gave the ‘Hawks the 3-2 lead. Dylan Guenther then scored his ninth to tie the game on the power play for the ‘Yotes and then a power play goal from Tyler Johnson put Chicago back in the lead. In the third, Colin Blackwell scored his second of the night to put the Blackhawks up two but then Nick Schmaltz scored his 19th of the year to bring Arizona within a goal. Then, Ryan Donato scored his eighth to put Chicago back up two and then Colin Blackwell got the hat trick with an empty netter as the Blackhawks downed the Coyotes 7-4.
In Anaheim, the Islanders made the trip to face the Ducks and in the first New York went up 1-0 with Casey Cizikas’ eighth of the year and then Kyle Palmieri scored his 20th of the year to put the Isles up two. Then, Brock Nelson scored his 29th on the power play to give the Islanders the 3-0. In the second, Anaheim got on the board when Alex Killorn got his 12th of the year. In the third, New York went back up three when Bo Horvat scored his 26th of the year and then Pierre Engvall netted his eighth of the year as the Isles went up four. Then, Cal Clutterbuck scored his fifth of the year as the Islanders stomped the Ducks 6-1.

Edmonton Oilers v. Buffalo Sabres – 12:30p ET
In Buffalo, the Sabres welcomed the Oilers back to Western New York and in the first, Edmonton took the 1-0 lead with Ryan McLeod’s 11th of the year and then a shorthanded goal from Warren Foegele put the Oilers up 2-0. Then, Tage Thompson got Buffalo on the board with his 19th on the year on the extra man advantage Following a scoreless second, Jacob Bryson scored his first goal of the year to even the score for Buffalo. With a scoreless overtime, the game moved the shootout where Alex Tuch scored the game winner to give the Sabres the 3-2 win over the Oilers.
Nashville Predators v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 12:30p ET
In Columbus, the Blue Jackets hosted the Predators and in the first Nashville took the 1-0 lead with Kiefer Sherwood’s eighth of the year. In the second, Columbus tied the contest when Alexandre Texier scored his 10th of the season. In the third, Luke Evangelista scored his 13th of the year as the Predators squeezed by the Blue Jackets for the 2-1 win.
Carolina Hurricanes v. New Jersey Devils – 12:30p ET
In New Jersey, the Devils and Hurricanes faced off in a matinee match-up. In the first a power play goal from Martin Necas put Carolina up 1-0. In the second, New Jersey evened the score when Nico Hischier netted his 21st. In the third, Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored his 11th to put Carolina up 2-1 and then Andrei Svechnikov scored an empty netter to put the Canes up a pair. Then, Timo Meier scored his 18th of the year to bring New Jersey within a goal but then Teuvo Teravainen scored an empty netter to give the Hurricanes the 4-2 win over the Devils.

Then, Alexander Barkov scored his 16th of the year to put Florida back up a goal and then Sam Bennett netted his 15th of the year to put the Cats up a pair. Vladimir Tarasenko then scored his second of the game to put Florida up 4-1. In the third, Kevin Stenlund scored a shorthanded goal to give the Panthers the 5-1 win over the Flames.
In Montreal, Original Six archrivals faced off with the Maple Leafs and the Canadiens. In the first, Montreal went up 1-0 when Mike Matheson scored his ninth. In the second, Toronto got a pair of goals when Bobby McMann and Max Domi each got on the scoresheet. In the third, Alex Newhook scored an empty netter as Montreal evened the score but then John Tavares scored his 20th of the year as the Maple Leafs downed the Canadiens 3-2.
In San Jose, the Senators visited the Sharks and in the first Thomas Bordeleau scored his third on the power play to give San Jose the 1-0 lead. In the second, Ottawa tied the contest when Tim Stützle scored his 15th of the year on the power play but then Thomas Bordeleau scored his second of the night, also on the power play, to give the Sharks the 2-1 win over the Senators.
Philadelphia Flyers v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 7p ET
In Tampa, the Lightning hosted the Flyers and in the first, Victor Hedman scored his 11th to put Tampa up 1-0 and then Nicholas Paul scored his 18th on the power play to put the Bolts up 2-0. Conor Sheary then scored his third of the year to put Tampa up 3-0 and then Brayden Point scored his 33rd as the Lightning made it 4-0. In the second, Anthony Duclair scored his 17th of the year as Tampa went up 5-0. In the third, Victor Hedman scored his second and then Brandon Hagel struck with his 23rd of the year as the Lightning stomped the Flyers 7-0.
In the Nation’s Capital, the Blackhawks visited the Capitals and in the first Hendrix Lapierre scored his seventh and then Michael Sgarbossa scored his third as Washington went up 2-0. A power play goal from Tom Wilson then put the Caps up 3-0. In the second, Sonny Milano scored his 10th of the year as Washington went up 4-0. In the third, Chicago got on the board when Tyler Johnson scored his 13th of the year but the Capitals stood by as they downed the Blackhawks 4-1.
In New York, the Rangers hosted the Blues and in the first Vincent Trocheck scored his 23rd on the power play and then Jimmy Vesey scored his 13th to put New York up 2-0. Following a scoreless second, Chris Kreider scored his 32nd of the year on the power play to put New York up 3-0 and then Kaapo Kakko scored his eighth on the power play as the Rangers got the 4-0 shutout victory over the Blues.

In the lone game for Friday in the PWHL, Toronto would play host to Montreal and in the first period Hannah Miller would score for Toronto to take the 1-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period Rebecca Leslie and Emma Maltais would score for Toronto to defeat Montreal 3-0. Kristen Campbell would stop all 23 shots faced to earn the shutout.
