    NHL Three Stars of the Week for Nov. 4th – 10th

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of November 4th through 10th.

     

    First Star – Anders Nilsson (G, Ottawa Senators)

    • In three games played for the Senators, Nilsson would stop 96 of 101 shots faced as he would go a perfect 3-0-0 with a 1.64 goals against average, and a .950 save percentage. Nilsson would make 32 saves against the New York Rangers on November 4th, then 26 saves against Los Angeles on November 7th, and 38 saves on November 9th against Carolina.

    Second Star – Auston Matthews (C, Toronto Maple Leafs)

    • Matthews would compile 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points in four games played to lead all skaters for the week. On November 5th against Los Angeles Matthews would tally an assist and the game winning goal, then on November 7th score the game tying goal against Vegas. On November 9th Matthews would tally a pair of assist against Philadelphia, and then on November 10th would tally a career high 4 assists against Chicago.

    Third Star – Cale Makar (D, Colorado Avalanche)

    • Makar would be tied for first in the League for defensemen as he would tally 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points in three games played. Makar would start off with an assist on November 5th against Dallas, then on November 7th Makar would score a goal and two assists for three points against Nashville, and would follow up with his second multi point game on November 9th against Columbus for his first career two goal game.

    Game Recaps:

    Florida Panthers v. New York Islanders – 1p EST Start Time

    In Long Island the New York Islanders would take on the Florida Panthers, and in the first period the Islanders would strike first as Mathew Barzal would score his seventh of the season to take the 1-0 lead. Then after a scoreless second period the PAnthers would strike on the powerplay with Aleksander Barkov’s fourth of the season, but the Islanders would respond a little over 30 seconds later as Scott Mayfield would score to give the Islanders the 2-1 victory.

     

    Buffalo Sabres v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 1p EST Start Time

    For their second game in Sweden, the Tampa Bay Lightning would pick up where they left off against the Buffalo Sabres. However, it would be the Sabres striking first on a Sam Reinhart goal, but Pat Maroon would strike on the powerplay to tie the game at one. Then in the second period Victor Hedman would score on the powerplay, then Maroon would score his second of the game to give the Lightning the 3-1 lead heading into the second intermission. In the third period Victor Olofsson would score his seventh of the season to cut the Lightning’s lead to one, but Yanni Gourde and Mathieu Joseph would score to expand their lead to three. Jack Eichel would score late in the period, but it would not be enough as the Lightning would hold on to win 5-3.

     

    Philadelphia Flyers v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7p EST Start Time

    In Toronto the Maple Leafs would host the Philadelphia Flyers and in the first period the Flyers would get goals from Philippe Myers and Oskar Lindblom (PPG) to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Then in the second period Travis Dermott would score for the Leafs to cut the deficit to one, and then in the third period William Nylander would score for the Leafs to force overtime. Then in the shootout it would be Sean Couturier breaking the tie for the Flyers as they take the 3-2 victory.

     

    Los Angeles Kings v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p EST Start Time

    In Montreal the Canadiens would only need the first period as Shea Weber would score two powerplay goals, and a goal from Nate Thompson to take a commanding 3-0 lead. However, in the second period Anze Kopitar would score on the powerplay and Blake Lizotte would score his first career goal to help the Kings cut the deficit to one, but the Canadiens would hold on to skate away with the 3-2 victory.

     

    Carolina Hurricanes v. Ottawa Senators – 7p EST Start Time

    In Ottawa the Senators would tame the Carolina Hurricanes as the Senators would get first period goals from Filip Chalpik, Vladislav Namestnikov, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau to take a commanding 3-0 lead. However, in the second period the Hurricanes would get on the board with an Andrei Svechnikov powerplay goal, but the Senators would respond with a Brady Tkachuk tally to secure the 4-1 victory.

     

    Chicago Blackhawks v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

    In Pittsburgh the Penguins would come back from another multi-goal deficit as the Chicago Blackhawks would get second period goals from Dominik Kubalik and Patrick Kane to take the two goal lead, but before the end of the second period Jake Guentzel  would score to cut the deficit to one. Then in the third period Bryan Rust would score his fifth of the season to tie the game at two. Then in the shootout Jared McCann would seal the deal for the Penguins as they would go on to defeat the Blackhawks 3-2.

     

    Vegas Golden Knights v. Washington Capitals – 7p EST Start Time

    The Washington Capitals would defeat the Vegas Golden Knights at home as they would get goals from Evgeny Kuznetsov, Tom Wilson, Jonas Siegenthaler, and two goals from Nicklas Backstrom (PPG and ENG) for the 5-2 victory. The Golden Knights would get their goals from Max Pacioretty and Reilly Smith.

     

    Minnesota Wild v. Arizona Coyotes – 8p EST Start Time

    In Arizona the Coyotes would take on the Minnesota Wild. In the first period the Coytoes would get goals from Michael Grabner and Jakob Chychrun for the two goal lead. Then in the third period the the Coyotes would get a goal from Vinnie Hinostroza, but the Wild would get three goals from Mikko Koivu, Kevin Fiala, and Matt Dumba to have the game tied at three going into the second intermission. Then in the third period Ryan Hartman would score for the Wild to secure the 4-3 victory.

     

    Columbus Blue Jackets v. Colorado Avalanche – 9p EST Start Time

    In Colorado the Avalanche would face the Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Blue Jackets would be take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission after getting goals from Emil Bemstrom (PPG) and Zach Werenski, while the Avalanche would get their lone goal of the period from Samuel Girard on the powerplay. Then in the second period Cale Makar would score a pair of goals to give the Avalanche the 3-2 lead, and in the third period Nazem Kadri would score to give the Avalanche the 4-2 victory.

     

    St. Louis Blues v. Calgary Flames – 10p EST Start Time

    In Calgary the Flames would take on the St. Louis Blues, and the first two periods be all Blues as they would get goals from Ivan Barbashev (first period) and Ryan O’Reilly (second period, PPG) to take the two goal lead. However, in the third periof the Flames would come back to force overtime with goals from Matthew Tkachuk and Travis Hamonic. Then in overtime David Perron would win it for the Blues as they defeated the Flames 3-2.

     

    Nashville Predators v. San Jose Sharks – 1030p EST Start Time

    In San Jose the Sharks would host the Nashville Predators, and after a scoreless first Filip Forsberg would score for the Predators to break the scoreless tie. Then in the third period Tomas Hertl would tie the game for the Sharks to send the game into overtime, and after the extra frame it would be Timo Meier scoring the lone goal of the shootout to secure the 2-1 victory for the Sharks.

    News:

    • St. Louis Blues announced that forward Alexander Steen will be out a minimum four weeks due to a high ankle sprain.

     

    • The Toronto Maple Leafs placed Nic Petan and Martin Marincin on waivers. The Leafs are expected to make one more move to make room for the returning Zach Hyman.

     

    • The Philadelphia Flyers announced that defenseman Samuel Morin suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, and is expected to be out for the remainder of the season.

    Vegas Golden Knights v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7p EST Start Time

    In Toronto we would have a tightly contested matchup between the Maple Leafs and Vegas Golden Knights. After two scoreless periods, the Knights would break the scoreless tie with a Max Pacioretty tally. but the Leafs would respond in kind while on the powerplay as Auston Matthews would score to tie the gaame and send it to overtime. In the extra frame John Tavares would score his fourth of the season to give the Leafs the 2-1 victory.

     

    Washington Capitals v. Florida Panthers – 7p EST Start Time

    Both Tom Wilson and Alex Ovechkin would have two goal games as the Washington Capitals down the Florida Panthers 5-4 in overtime. TXHT Recap

     

    Pittsburgh Penguins v. New York Islanders – 7p EST Start Time

    The New York Islanders would take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in another overtime thriller. In the first period the Islanders would get the lone goal of the period from Casey Cizikas, but then in the second period the fireworks would come out as the Islanders would get goals from Cal Clutterbuck (SHG) and Adam Pelech. However, the Penguins would respond with three goals of their own in the third period as Jared McCann, Bryan Rust, and Evgeni Malkin would all score to tie the game and send it to overtime which would see Rust score his second of the game to give the Penguins the 4-3 win.

     

    Montreal Canadiens v. Philadelphia Flyers – 7p EST Start Time

    In Philadelphia the Flyers would host the Montreal Canadiens, and both teams would trade two goals each in regulation as the Flyers got goals from Philippe Myers and James van Riemsdyk, while the Canadiens got goals from Ben Chiarot and Shea Weber. Then in overtime the Flyers would get the game winner from Sean Couturier for the 3-2 victory.

     

    New York Rangers v. Carolina Hurricanes – 7p EST Start Time

    The New York Rangers would come to Carolina and stop the surge of the Hurricanes. the Rangers would get a goal per period from Artemi Panarin, Brendan Lemieux (PPG) and Pavel Buchnevich to take the 3-2 victory. The Hurricanes would get goals from Dougie Hamilton and Sebastian Aho.

     

    Los Angeles Kings v. Ottawa Senators – 730p EST Start Time

    In Ottawa we would have yet another overtime game as the the Senators and Los Angeles Kings would require extra time. The Kings would get goals from Dustin Brown and Tyler Toffoli, while the Senators got goals from Anthony Duclair, Artem Anisimov, and the overtime winner from Jean-Gabriel Pageau for the 3-2 victory.

     

    Vancouver Canucks v. Chicago Blackhawks – 830p EST Start Time

    In Chicago the Blackhawks would strike with two first period markers as Alex DeBrincat and Andrew Shaw (PPG) would get the Blackhawks on the board, but then in the second period the Vancouver Canucks would get on the board with a JT Miller powerplay tally to cut the Blackhawks lead to one. Then in the third period the Blackhawks would get goals from Patrick Kane (PPG) and David Kampf (SHG), but Jake Virtanen would score for the Canucks, but it would not be enough as the Blackhawks would get one last goal from Brandon Saad to win 5-2.

     

    Nashville Predators v. Colorado Avalanche – 9p EST Start Time

    In Colorado the Avalanche would swarm the Nashville Predators. In the first period Cale Makar would score 49 seconds into the game and Nathan MacKinnon would score to give the Avalanche the lead going into the first intermission. Ryan Ellis would have the lone first period tally for Nashville. Then in the second period the Predators would get goals from Filip Forsberg and Matt Duchene (PPG), but the Avalanche would net six goals as Joonas Donskoi (two goals), Ryan Graves, Andre Burakovsky, Matt Nieto (SHG), and Matt Calvert would all score to give Colorado a commanding 8-3 lead. In the third period the Predators would try to claw themselves back into this game with a Craig Smith goal, but Joonas Donskoi would score his third of the game to give the Avalanche the 9-4 victory.

     

    New Jersey Devils v. Calgary Flames – 9p EST Start Time

In the first period Gustav Nyquist would score 14 seconds in to the game for Columbus, but Carl Soderberg would respond for the Coyotes. Then in the second period Jakob Chychrun would score to give the Coyotes their first lead, but Emil Bemstrom would score his first goal to tie the game going into the second intermission. Then in the third period it would be Oliver Bjorkstrand who would score his fourth of the season to secure the 3-2 victory for the Blue Jackets.

    The San Jose Sharks would play host to the Minnesota Wild, and in the first period it would be all Sharks as they got goals from Logan Couture, Timo Meier, Marcus Sorenson, and Radim Simek to take a commanding 4-0 lead into the second period. But in the second period the Wild would begin to mount a comeback as they would get goals from Luke Kunin and Eric Staal, but San Jose would respond with goals from Tomas Hertl and Evander Kane (PPG). But in the Third period it would be all Wild as they would get goals from Brad Hunt, Ryan Donato, and Jason Zucker, but it would not be enough as the Sharks would hold on to win 6-5.

    Ottawa Senators v. New York Islanders – 7p EST Start Time

    On Long Island the New York Islanders look to continue their winning streak as they take on the Ottawa Senators. In the first period would trade tallies as the Senators would strike first when Jean-Gabriel Pageau would score shorthanded to take the 1-0 lead, but less than a minute later Cal Clutterbuck would tie the game for the Islanders. In the second period the Islanders would take the lead with a Cole Bardeau tally on a penalty shot. Then in the third period Casey Czikas and Josh Bailey would both score to give the Islanders the 4-1 victory.

     

    Carolina Hurricanes v. Philadelphia Flyers – 7p EST Start Time

    In Philadelphia the Flyers look to tame the Carolina Hurricanes, and in the first period they would strike as Sean Couturier would strike on the powerplay to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Linus Wallmark would score for the Hurricanes to tie the game at one. In the third period the Flyers would strike back to retake the lead when Travis Konecny scored his seventh of the season. Then Joel Farabee and Claude Giroux would seal the deal for the Flyers as they would go on to win 4-1.

     

    Vegas Golden Knights v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 7p EST Start Time

    In Columbus the Vegas Golden Knights look to silence the Blue Jackets’ cannons, and that they would in the first period as Reilly Smith would score with 45 seconds left in the first to give the Knights the 1-0 lead. In the second period Boone Jenner would score for the Jackets to tie the game at one, but Smith would score his second of the game while shorthanded to retake the lead for the Knights, and that would be all they needed as the Vegas Golden Knights went on to win 2-1.

Then in the second period Connor Clifton would score his first of the season to cut the Canadiens lead to one, and then Anders Bjork would tie the game at three, but Victor Mete would score his second of the game for the Canadiens to retake the lead before the end of the second period. Then in the third period Sean Kuraly would score for the Bruins to retie the game at four. However, the Canadiens would get the lead back with a Ben Chiarot tally and defeat the Bruins 5-4.

    In Toronto the Los Angeles Kings look to take down the Maple Leafs and continue to climb their way back to being .500, and after a scoreless first period the Kings would get on the board with an Alex Iafallo tally to take the 1-0 lead, but the Leafs would respond with an Alexander Kerfoot tally to tie the game at one. Then in the third period the Leafs would get goals from Auston Matthews and William Nylander to expand their lead to two and defeat the Kings 3-1.

     

    New Jersey Devils v. Winnipeg Jets – 8p EST Start Time

    Colorado Avalanche v. Dallas Stars – 830p EST Start Time

    The Dallas Stars played host to the Colorado Avalanche, and the Stars would get to early first period goals as Jason Dickinson and Radek Faksa would score to give the Stars the early 2-0 lead. Then in the final 36 seconds of the first period JT Compher would score for the Avalanche to cut the Stars lead to one. In the second period though, Radek Faska would score his second of the game to reclaim the two goal lead for the Stars. Then in the third period Corey Perry would score his second of the season to give the Stars the 4-1 victory.

     

    Arizona Coyotes v. Calgary Flames – 9p EST Start Time

    In Calgary the Arizona look to put out the Flames as they would get goals from Clayton Keller and Christian Dvorak to take the 2-0 lead. However, late in the second period while on the powerplay Johnny Gaudreau would score to cut the deficit to one. Then in the third period the Coyotes would grow their lead to 3-1 with a Vinny Hinostroza tally, but the Flames would respond with goals from Matthew Tkachuk (PPG) and Mark Giordano to send the game to overtime. Then in overtime Tkachuk would score his second of the game with less than 30 seconds left to secure the 4-3 victory for the Flames.

     

    St. Louis Blues v. Vancouver Canucks – 10p EST Start Time

    The St. Louis Blues would rain on the Vancouver Cancucks celebration as Tyler Bozak would break the scoreless tie in the second period, but then in the third period Quinn Hughes would score his second of the season to tie the game and send it to overtime. Then in overtime Jaden Schwartz would score his second of teh season to secure the 2-1 victory for the Blues.

     

    Minnesota Wild v. Anaheim Ducks – 10p EST Start Time

    In Anaheim the Ducks thought they had tamed the Minnestoa Wild after taking a 2-1 lead over into the third period after getting goals from Rickard Rakell and Jacob Larsson in the first two minutes of the second period, but the Wild would get four unanswered goals including three of which that came in the third period as Kevin Fiala, Mats Zuccarello, Eric Staal, and Zach Parise would all score to give the Wild the 4-2 win.

     

    Chicago Blackhawks v. San Jose Sharks – 10p EST Start Time

    In San Jose the Sharks would break a scoreless tie in the second period with goals from Patrick Marleau and Evander Kane (SHG). Then in the third period both the Chicago Blackhawks would trade goals as Brandon Saad and Duncan Keith would score for Chicago, but the Sharks would get goals from Tomas Hertl and Timo Meier to secure the 4-2 victory.

    In Boston the Bruins would get the jump on the Pittsburgh Penguins as they would get goals from Jake DeBrusk, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak to take the 3-0 lead. However, the Penguins would score four goals in the second period to respond to the Bruins three goal lead as Dominik Kahun, Nick Bjugstad, Bryan Rust, and John Marino would all score to take the 4-3 lead into the third period. Then in the third Torey Krug would score to tie the game at four. Then late in regulation Marchand would score his second of the game and Patrice Bergeron would score to give the Bruins the 6-2 victory.

     

    Ottawa Senators v. New York Rangers – 7p EST Start Time

    In New York the Ottawa Senators would take it to the Rangers. After Kaapo Kakko would score for the Rangers the Senators would get five straight goals from Jean-Gabriel Pageau (two goals), Tyler Ennis (PPG), Ron Hainsey, Brady Tkachuk until Artemi Panarin would score on the powerplay for the Rangers. Then in the third period the former Ranger Vladislav Namestnikov would score on the powerplay to give the Senators their four goal lead back and defeat the Rangers 6-2.

     

    Nashville Predators v. Detroit Red Wings – 730p EST Start Time

    In Detroit the Red Wings would get an early goal from Andreas Athanasiou to take the 1-0 lead, but the Nashville Predators would respond with a five goal second period as they would get two goals from Matt Duchene (even strength and PPG), and goals from Nick Bonino, Kyle Turris and Colton Sissons to take a 5-1 lead into the third period. Then in the third period the Predators would grow their lead with a Filip Forsberg goal and defeat the Red Wings 6-1.

     

    Arizona Coyotes v. Edmonton Oilers – 9p EST Start Time

    In Edmonton the Oilers take on the Arizona Coyotes, and in the first period both team would trade early goals as Connor McDavid would get the Oilers on the boards first, but moments later Michael Grabner would score for the Coyotes to tie the game at one. Then in the second period Carl Soderberg would score for the Coyotes to give them the 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission. Then in the third period Zack Kassian would tie the game at two for the Oilers and send the game to overtime. But in overtime it would be Derek Stepan winning it for the Coyotes two minutes into the extra period to win the game 3-2.

    • The Nashville Predators unveiled their 2020 Winter Classic jersey.

    • The jersey pays homage to the history of hockey in Nashville including the Dixie Flyers.

     

    Game Recaps:

    Edmonton Oilers v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 1p EST Start Time

    The Pittsburgh Penguins would play host to the Edmonton Oilers as they looked for their ninth win of the season, but it would be the Oilers striking first in the second period when Colby Cave scored his first of the season. Then in the third period Brian Dumoulin would score while shorthanded to tie the game and send it to overtime. However, it would be the Oilers taking this one on a Leon Draisaitl goal to defeat the Penguins 2-1.

     

    New York Rangers v. Nashville Predators – 2p EST Start Time

    In Nashville, mere hours after unveiling their 2020 Winter Classic jersey, the Predators host the New York Rangers for an afternoon matinee. In the first period the Rangers would strike on a Filip Chytil marker to take the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Ryan Strome would grow the Rangers lead to two, but before the second was over Viktor Arvidsson would cut the Rangers lead back to one. However, it would not be enough as the Rangers would hold on to win 2-1.

     

    Ottawa Senators v. Boston Bruins – 7p EST Start Time

    In Boston the Ottawa Senators come to town looking to take down the Bruins, but after going back and forth with the Bruins the first two periods, the Bruins would get a three goal third period to secure the victory. The Senators would get their goals from Anthony Duclair and Connor Brown, while the Bruins got goals from David Pastrnak (PPG), Patrice Bergeron, Danton Heinen, Brad Marchand (PPG), and Jake DeBrusk to secure a 5-2 win.

The Maple Leafs would get goals from Kasperi Kapanen, Jason Spezza (First as a Leaf), and Mitch Marner, while the Flyers would get goals from Ivan Provorov (PPG), Claude Giroux (PPG), and Travis Sanheim. In the eleventh round of the shootout it would be Andreas Johnsson scoring the game winner for the Leafs as they take the 4-3 victory.

    In Carolina the struggling New Jersey Devils come to town to face off with the Hurricanes. In the first two periods the two teams would trade three goals each with the Devils getting goals from Miles Wood, Jack Hughes, and Nico Hischier, while the Hurricanes got their goals from Warren Foegele, Teuvo Teravainen, and Erik Haula. However, in the third period the Devils would get goals from PK Subban and Damon Severson to secure a 5-3 victory.

    In Columbus the Calgary Flames looked to burn down the Blue Jackets, and burn them they would as the Flames would score a goal per period and David Rittich would post a shutout for their victory. The Flames would get their goals from Sean Monahan, Sam Bennett, and Matthew Tkachuk to secure the 3-0 lead.

     

    Montreal Canadiens v. Dallas Stars – 7p EST Start Time

    In Dallas the Stars would dominate the Montreal Canadiens as they would get goals from Alexander Radulov (PPG), Denis Gurianov (even strength and PPG), and Miro Heiskanen. The Canadiens would get a late goal from Artturi Lehkonen, but it would be too little, too late as the Stars would defeat the Canadiens 4-1.

     

    St. Louis Blues v. Minnesota Wild – 8p EST Start Time

    In Minnesota the Wild would look for their fifth win of the season, but it would be the St. Louis Blues forcing overtime to take the victory from the Wild. The Wild would get goals from Marcus Foligno, Kevin Fiala, and Mats Zuccarello (PPG), while the Blues would get goals from Mackenzie MacEachern, Carl Gunnarsson, and Sammy Blais during regulation. Then in overtime Ryan O’Reilly would score the gmae winner to give the Blues the 4-3 win.

    In Arizona the Coyotes would don their Kachinas once again as they took on the Colorado Avalnache, and it would be a howling time for the Coyotes as Darcy Kuemper would backstop his why to a shutout victory. The Coyotes would get goals from Christian Dvorak (PPG), Phil Kessel, and Conor Garland to secure the 3-0 victory.

     

    Winnipeg Jets v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p EST Start Time

    In Vegas the Golden Knights would take on the Winnipeg Jets in a game that would require extra time. The Jets would get two goals from Mathieu Perreault (even strength and PPG), and a goal from Mark Scheifele, while the Knights got goals from Jonathan Marchessault (PPG), Max Pacioretty, and Nate Schmidt in regulation. Then in overtime Kyle Connor would score to secure the 4-3 victory for the Jets.

    In San Jose the Vancouver Canucks would tame the Sharks. In the latter half of the third period the Sharks would get goals from Marc-Edouard Vlasic (SHG) and Evander Kane, but the Canucks would get two goals from Elias Pettersson (even strength and PPG), and goals from Brandon Sutter, Jake Virtanen, and Adam Gaudette to secure the 5-2 victory for the Canucks.

    In Los Angeles the Kings and Chicago Blackhawks would renew their rivalry, and it would not disappoint as this game would require overtime. In regulation the Blackhawks would get goals from Dominik Kubalik, David Kampf, and Jonathan Toews, while the Kings got their goals from Kyle Clifford, Matt Roy, and Michael Amadio. Then in overtime it would be Drew Doughty scoring with 17 seconds left to give the Kings the 4-3 victory.

    Blackhawks Brent Seabrook a healthy scratch last night against the LA Kings, as he continues to struggle.

     

    Islanders will be without tough guy Matt Martin and Tom Kuhnhackl for four to six weeks. Martin crashed into the boards hurting his leg. While Kuhnhackl left after the first period Friday night with an undisclosed injury.

    Panthers look to continue their winning ways against the Oilers in Edmonton. The first period would see teams both exchange decent chances, but the score would remain 0-0 after one. All cylinders would be rolling in the second for the Panthers as they would score three goals in under 3 minutes of play to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Edmonton goalie Mike Smith would be pulled from the game in favor of Mikko Koskinen. Koskinen wouldn’t fair much better as the Panthers would score two more in the third and add an empty netter to seal the win. After being down 4-0, the Oilers would squeeze in two goals in hopes of sparking a comeback but fall short. Panthers would win the game 6-2.

     

    St. Louis Blues v. Detroit Red Wings – 5p EST Start Time

    Blues looking to recover from being shutout against the Red Wings in Detroit.  Period one would see Brayden Schenn and Zach Sanford of the Blues score goals 5 minutes apart to give the Blues a quick two-goal lead. In the second the Wings and Blues would exchange goals off the sticks of Filip Hronek and Ryan O’Reilly respectively to keep the two-goal lead after two periods. 3 goals in the third would spark the Detroit comeback as the Wings jumped in front 4-3. O’Reilly would strike again with under 5 minutes remaining this time on the powerplay to tie the game up and send it to overtime. Where David Perron would become the overtime hero and seal the 5-4 win for the Blues.

     

    San Jose Sharks v. Ottawa Senators – 7p EST Start Time

    The Sens look to stop the Sharks momentum while creating some of their own. Ottawa would jump out in front 6 minutes into the game on Connor Brown’s 1st of the season. The Sens would score another late in the first after Sharks Evander Kane would score on the powerplay to tie the game. 2-1 heading into the second, once again the Sens would score two more goals and the Sharks would sandwich one of their own in there. Sens Anthony Duclair would add a goal late in the third to seal the 5-2 win for the Sens.

     

    Philadelphia Flyers v. New York Islanders – 7p EST Start Time

    Flyers hoping to keep the lamp lit against the red hot Islanders. It looked like the Flyers were going to run away with this game early on as Jakub Voracek opened the scoring just over a minute into game. The Islanders would fire back with three goals of their own in the first, the Flyers would get one back just before the period would end. Period two would pick right up where the first one finished, Philadelphia would watch two more goals tickle the twine before 6 minutes would go by, bringing the Islanders lead to 5-2. Period three would see Flyers Claude Giroux score cutting the lead to 5-3 and that would the final.

     

    Boston Bruins v. New York Rangers – 7p EST Start Time

    Bruins look to keep running over the competition as they come to New York to play the Rangers. Rangers forward Michael Haley would open the scoring in the first period and would bring to life the Perfection line. Over the next two period Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist and Alexandar Georgiev would face a combined 43 shots, as Brad Marchand (2 goals 3 assists), David Pastrnak (5 assists) and Patrice Bergeron (3 goals) would combine for 13 points in the four-goal second, and three-goal third for the Bruins. The Rangers would would score 3 themselves in the third period but it wouldn’t be enough to overcome seven goals from the Bruins on the night. Bruins would be happy as they walk away with a 7-4 victory.

     

    Los Angeles Kings v. Chicago Blackhawks – 7p EST Start Time

    Blackhawks looking to get things clicking as the Kings come to town. Dylan Strome, Alex DeBrincat and Robin Lehner would have games to never forget on this night. Strome would score twice and add an assist, DeBrincat would score once and add two assists in a four-goal 40 minutes. LA and Chicago would exchange third-period goals, while Lehner would put in a 39 save performance and only allow one goal in a 5-1 rout of the Kings.

     

    Anaheim Ducks v. Vegas Golden Knights – 8p EST Start Time

    Anaheim looked to dethrone the Knights in Vegas. After a big win in Colorado yesterday the Ducks looked to come into the back to back with some energy as Ryan Getzlaf would open the scoring just under five minutes in. This would awaken the Knights as the next 55 minutes would see 49 shots and five unanswered goals until the Ducks Adam Henrique would answer with a goal late in the game. As the Golden Knights would slay the Ducks a 5-2.

    Vegas Golden Knights looked to cool down the young fiery Colorado Avalanche. The first period would open with an exchange of goals Pierre-Edouard Bellemare would open the scoring against his old team just 28 second into the game. William Karlsson would tie it up with 1:30 left in the first to tie the game a 1-1, before Nazem Kadri would score 43 seconds later to take a 2-1 lead to the dressing room. The Avalanche would not look back, scoring 3 more goals in the second period to bring the lead to 5-1. The Golden Knight would pull Marc-Andre Fluery after 4 goals and bring in Garrett Sparks. The Avalanche would add a shorthanded goal in the 3rd to make it 6-1.

     

    San Jose Sharks v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7p EST Start Time

    Leafs looking to right the ship against the surging Sharks, as John Tavares remains out of the lineup. Kevin Lebanc would open the scoring for the Sharks at the midway point of the first period. The Sharks would shut down the Leafs thanks to stellar play from Martin Jones. The second period would see the Leafs dominate for the main part allowing only 3 shots from the Sharks, but still couldn’t beat Jones until with 2 seconds left in the second period Alexander Kerfoot would see another partial breakaway and be stopped again but Jake Muzzin would be left wide open for a tap-in to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the second intermission. The game would remain tied until the the 14 minute mark of the third period where Morgan Rielly would score his third of the season to give Toronto the 2-1 lead. Ilya Mikheyev would score an empty netter and Auston Matthews would follow up with a goal of his own 19 seconds later to seal the game at 4-1.

     

    Arizona Coyotes v. New Jersey Devils – 7p EST Start Time

    The Coyotes coming off a loss last night to the Islander came into this game against New Jersey hoping to rebound. The first period would bring the Jack Hughes show, as he would setup one goal and score on of his own. The Coyotes would add one of their own to cut the lead in half before the period ended. The second period would have the opposite outcome, The Devils would score but it would be sandwiched in between two Coyote goals. The game would head into the 3rd period tied. In the third Barrett Hayden would score to give the Coyotes the 4-3 lead and Clayton Keller would add an empty net goal to save the win for the Coyotes. 5-3 would be the final.

     

    New York Islanders v. Ottawa Senators – 730p EST Start Time

    The Islanders look to win on back to back nights, as they head into Ottawa for a game against the Senators. The Sens would open the scoring as Tyler Ennis would score to give the Sens the 1-0 lead. Then the Nick Leddy show would begin. Leddy would score two goals in the first period one on a penalty shot to give the Islanders a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission. The second period would open with Leddy being involved again on a Matt Martin goal, Derrick Brassard would add another in the period as well to bring the lead to 4-1 heading into the third period. The third would bring another Tyler Ennis, this time on the powerplay. Thomas Griess would put in a 30 save performance for the win, while Anders Nilsson would only make 12 saves on the night in a losing effort. The final score from Ottawa would be 4-2 Islanders.

     

    Buffalo Sabres v. Detroit Red Wings – 730p EST Start Time

    Sabres look to pick up another win against the lowly Detroit Red Wings.                            The first period would open with no scoring and the Wings in control for most of the period, out shooting the Sabres 12-6. The second period would look much different as the Sabres would pick it up and get a goal midway through the period by Jake McCabe to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead. The rest of the period would remain scoreless. The Sabres would open the third period with a goal on the powerplay just over a minute in courtesy of Sam Reinhart. But the period would ultimely become the Linus Ullmark show as he would make 19 saves and 39 overall to preserve the shutout and win for the Sabres. 2-0 would be the final score in Detroit.

     

    Washington Capitals v. Vancouver Canucks – 10p EST Start Time

    Vancouver looking to take down one of the top teams in the east, as the Capitals come to town on the second leg of a back to back. The first period would open with the Capitals scoring just over three minutes into the period off the stick of Evgeny Kuznetsov and then the floodgates would open. Between the 5 minute mark of the 1st period and the 15-minute mark of the second period, the Canucks would score 5 unanswered goals including 2 from Tim Schaller to give the Canucks a 5-1 lead with only five minutes remaining in the second period. Capitals Kuznetsov begins the comeback scoring with one second on the clock to cut the lead to 5-2 heading into the third period. The third period would bring 3 more unanswered goals including 2 from Michal Kempny,  as the Capitals clung to the energy that Kuznetsov’s late second-period goal gave them to tie the game at 5-5. Overtime would produce nothing, other than a flurry of shots by the Capitals. The Shootout would see the Capitals score on 2 of 3 shots against Jacob Markstrom, while the Canucks could only manage one past Ilya Samsonov. The Shootout giving the Capitals a huge comeback 6-5 victory.

    • The Colorado Avalanche announced that forward Mikko Rantanen is out week to week due to a lower body.

     

    • The Winnipeg Jets claimed defenseman Luca Sbisa off of waivers from the Anaheim Ducks.

     

    • The Minnesota Wild have placed forward Kevin Fiala on injured reserve due to a lower body injury.

     

    • The Ottawa Senators have announced that both defenseman Colin White (3-5 weeks – hip flexor/groin injury) and forward Artem Anisimov (1-2 weeks – lower body) have been placed on injured reserve.

Then in the third period Anthony Duclair would score his second of the game to secure the Senators the 5-2 victory.

    In Tampa Bay the Lightning play host to the Pittsburgh Penguins and after a very touching tribute by the Lightning honoring 46 of the 70 living recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor they would get the first goal of the game from Alex Killorn. Then in the second period the Penguins would strike when Brendon Tanev scored his second of the season to tie the game. Then in the final minute of the period Jake Guentzel would score his sixth of the season to take the late lead into the intermission. Then in the third period Cedric Paquette would strike for the Lightning to tie the game at two, and then in the final minute of the period while on the powerplay Victor Hedman would strike to give the Lightning the 3-2 victory.

In the second period the Leafs would take the lead on a William Nylander goal, but the Jackets would force overtime in the third period with a Alexander Wennberg powerplay goal. Then in the third period the Knights would get on the board with a Jonathan Marchessault powerplay goal, and a Reilly Smith goal, but the Flyers would respond when Raffl would score his second of the game to give the Flyers the 6-2 victory.

    In St. Louis the Blues would play host to the Colorado Avalanche, and after a first period that saw Brayden Schenn and Nathan MacKinnon trade powerplay goals it would be the Blues take over. In the second period the Blues would get goals from David Perron and Vladimir Tarasenko to secure the 3-1 record.

    One night after a tornado touched down in the Dallas area and damaging some of the player’s homes, the Stars would hold on at home against the Ottawa Senators. In the first period the Stars would get on the board first as Radek Faska score his second of the season. Then in the second period Joe Pavelski would score on the powerplay to take the 2-0 lead. However, the Senators would get on the board late in the game as Vladislav Namestnikov would score his fourth of the season, but it would not be enough as the Stars would win 2-1.
