    Today is Saturday, December 8th, 2018, and these are your news and notes.

     

    DALLAS 3, San Jose 2

     

    The Dallas Stars faced off against the San Jose Sharks last night and would win this contest 3-2.

    Dallas is 10-3-1 when playing games at home on the season thus far.

    Dallas has also won their last four contests.

     

    St. Louis 1, WINNIPEG 0

    With this 1-0 St. Louis Blues win, they would snap the four-game win streak for the Winnipeg Jets.

     

    EDMONTON 7, Minnesota 2

     

    Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid now has 33 games in his career where he has at least three points in a game before his 22nd birthday.

     

    McDavid joins four other players for this exclusive list.

     

    With this win, Edmonton has won their last four home games and six out of the last seven.

     

     

    Carolina 4, ANAHEIM 1

    The Carolina Hurricanes took on the Anaheim Ducks last night and would end up winning the contest 4-1.

    Sebastian Aho would score the empty net goal to seal the win for the Hurricanes late in the third period.

     

     

     

     

    This week’s NHL European Game of the Week is the contest between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Buffalo Sabres

     

    In NHL news…

    The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced yesterday that Calgary Flames D Mark Giordano has been suspended for two games for kneeing Minnesota Wild’s F Mikko Koivu.

    Also, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Calgary Flames F Ryan Lomberg has been suspended for one game for leaving the player’s bench on a legal line change to start an altercation.

    This is additional discipline for the automatic suspension that was announced earlier yesterday.

     

     

    Today in the NWHL…

    The Buffalo Beauts take on the Connecticut Whale at HarborCenter today at 6 p.m., ET.

     

    In NWHL news today…

    The Buffalo Beauts announced that head coach Ric Seiling and assistant coaches Craig Muni have been relieved of their coaching duties.

    There were six contests in action yesterday.

     

     

    DALLAS 1, Boston 0 (OT)

     

    Dallas Stars G Ben Bishop became the fifth player in franchise history to record a shutout over the Boston Bruins.

     

    Buffalo 2, WINNIPEG 1 (SO)

     

    Buffalo Sabres Jeff Skinner scored in the contest, his eighth goal since November 1st, to give the Sabres the shootout win over the Winnipeg Jets last night.

     

    Los Angeles 2, CHICAGO 1 (SO)

     

    Los Angeles G Calvin Petersen registered 34 saves in the contest and would turn aside two shots in the shootout give Petersen his first NHL win in the Kings contest over the Chicago Blackhawks.

     

    Washington 3, COLORADO 2 (OT)

     

    Alex Ovechkin has 681 goals (regular-season and playoffs combined) to tie Dino Ciccarelli for 17th place all-time.

     

    Nicklas Backstrom scored the game-winner just 22 seconds into the overtime to give the Washington Capitals the 3-2 win in Denver last night.

    St. Louis 4, VEGAS 1

     

    St. Louis Blues Ryan O’Reilly has at least one point in 11 out of the last 12 games and leads the Blues with 23 points on the season.  O’Reilly also scored two goals in the contest.

     

    Toronto 2, ANAHEIM 1 (OT)

     

    For the second time in franchise history, the Toronto Maple Leafs ended up sweeping the California road-trip in the Maple Leafs overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks.

    Patrick Marleau scored his 539th career goal, passing Keith Tkachuk for 32nd place on the all-time list.

    Today is Thursday, November 15th, 2018, and these are your news and notes…

     

    There were four contests in action yesterday.

     

    CHICAGO 1, St. Louis 0

    The Chicago Blackhawks went on to shutout the St. Louis Blues 1-0.

    Blackhawks G Corey Crawford turned aside all 28 shots he faced to snap the Blackhawks eight-game losing streak in the win.

    Chicago’s Duncan Keith played in his 1,014th career game, and now has sole possession of fourth place on the Blackhawks all-time list.

     

    WINNIPEG 3, Washington 1

    Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele became the sixth active player to have three consecutive seasons scoring ten goals or more in 17 or fewer games.

    Winnipeg’s Blake Wheeler would also find the scoresheet and extended his point streak to 11 games, matching a career high set back during the end of the 2015-16 season.

    COLORADO 6, Boston 3

    Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen has 29 points on the season in 19 games played.

    Rantanen had a three-point night, registering one goal and two assists in the contest.

     

    Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog also made the score sheet for the Colorado Avalanche in the big win over the Boston Bruins.

    Boston’s David Pastrnak scored his 17th goal on the season and became the 11th player at the age of 22 or younger to register that mark in 18 team games played.

     

    VEGAS 5, Anaheim 0

    Vegas Golden Knights G Marc-Andre Fleury had his 51st career shutout and moved into a four-way tie for 24th on the NHL’s all-time list for shutouts by a goaltender.

    Today is Wednesday, November 7th, and these are your news and notes…

    There were nine league contests last night.

     

    The Maple Leafs won their 10th game of the season out of 15 games for the 11th time in franchise history and the first since the 2013-14 season when they won 10 games out of the first 14.

     

     

    Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist won his 436th career game and is now one win shy of tying Jacques Plante for seventh place all time.

     

     

    Max Domi would score all three of Montreal’s goals in the contest to give him a goal-scoring streak of four contests and has 16 points on the season, including nine goals thus far.

    The Columbus Blue Jackets have defeated the Dallas Stars for the sixth consecutive time.

     

     

    Ottawa’s Mark Stone had a five-point game to lift Ottawa to the win over New Jersey. Stone is the fifth player in Senators’ history to have multiple five point games in the regular season.

     

     

    Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson would score yet again and continues to lead all rookies in goals and points but would still fall to the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout.

     

    Pettersson has scored 10 goals in 10 games played. He is the fifth player outside of the League’s first season to score 10+ goals through their first 10 NHL games.

     

     

    In Tampa Bay’s Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness night, Tampa Bay would get the win in the contest over the Edmonton Oilers and move to a record of 11-3-1 and into first place in the NHL standings.

     

     

    St. Louis F Ryan O’Reilly registered a hat-trick and would extend his point streak to eight games in the contest against the Hurricanes. O’Reilly also had an eight-game point streak during the 2015-16 season.

     

     

    In this match-up, Ilya Kovalchuk had one goal and two assists in the first game for new Kings head coach, Willie Desjardins.

     

     

     

    San Jose’s Joe Thornton played in his 1499th NHL contest last night and tied Mike Modano for 19th all time.

     

     

    With his next game, Thornton will become the first overall pick in the history of the NHL Draft to reach the 1500 game milestone.

     

    As a note from the contests yesterday, this would only be the fifth time in League history where the home teams swept a schedule of 9+ games.

    -Edmonton Oilers Milan Lucic will have a hearing today for roughing Tampa Bay’s Mathieu Joseph in last night’s contest.

     

     

    The NHL’s Department of Player Safety in accordance to the hearing announced that Lucic has been fined $10,000, the maximum allowed under the CBA, for roughing Mathieu Joseph.

     

     

    -Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada’s Elliotte Friedman released his “31 Thoughts” article yesterday. The topic revolves around the Ottawa Senators Uber video and the fallout.

     

     

    -The Los Angeles Kings announced that Adam Oates has joined the team in a consulting role.

  • October 30, 2018 — News and Notes

     

    These are your news and notes for Tuesday, October 30th, 2018.

     

    There were two contests last night in the NHL.

    • The Vancouver Canucks took on the Minnesota Wild and went on to win the contest 5-2.Elias Pettersson scored two goals to give him 10 points thus far and would help snap the Wild’s five game win streak.Pettersson went on to become the 21st player in league history to register at least seven goals in their first seven career games and only the eighth in the NHL’s Modern era dating back to the 1943-44 season.
    • In the other contest of the evening, the Calgary Flames went on to rout the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1, and defeated the Maple Leafs for the first time on the road since the 2010-11 season.

      With the win, the six-game slide in Toronto is no more. Calgary scored two goals in 55 seconds in the third, including the game-winner registered by Elias Lindholm. Lindholm leads all Calgary skaters with eight goals and trails six others for the League lead.

      Lindholm also became the first Flames player to score eight goals in 12 games played since the 2007-08 season when Jarome Iginla and Daymond Langkow also hit the mark of eight goals in 12 games.

    -The Pittsburgh Penguins announced earlier today that the team will wear a “Stronger Than Hate” patch on their jerseys tonight in memory of the Tree of Life tragedy that happened this past Saturday.

    -The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced yesterday that Ottawa Senators D Mark Borowiecki has been suspended three games for his illegal check to the head of Vegas Golden Knights F Cody Eakin.

    In NWHL action…

    In the lone NWHL contest yesterday, the Minnesota Whitecaps defeated the Buffalo Beauts 2-1 and moved the Whitecaps to a 6-0-0 record on the season.  Minnesota’s Amy Menke scored the game winner in the third period.

    Minnesota entered the weekend undefeated with Buffalo and the Boston Pride, but with the two wins over the Beauts and Boston’s loss to the Metropolitan Riveters on Saturday, Minnesota remains the lone undefeated team in the NWHL.

    Minnesota would score the first goal of the game just 19 seconds into the contest with Kate Schipper scoring. This was Schipper’s second goal of the weekend.

    Buffalo would be awarded a penalty shot when the puck was covered in the crease with Dani Cameranesi scoring into the top left corner to tie the game at 1.

    Minnesota Whitecaps remain undefeated with 2-1 win over Buffalo Beauts.

    The league will be taking a break for the upcoming Four Nations tournament and will return on November 17th.

    These are your news and notes for Wednesday, October 24th, 2018

    There were eight games in action last night…

    • In a matchup of two of the highest-scoring player the last three seasons, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins faced off against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.Sidney Crosby netted the game winner in overtime to take down Edmonton 6-5. This contest would also feature a tie five times throughout the game.

      Crosby scored his first two goals of the season and would also net his first goals in a head-to-head matchup. Pittsburgh is 5-0-0 against Edmonton since the start of the 2016-17 season.

      In this contest, Crosby would also register the 14th career regular-season overtime goal, tying Los Angeles Kings Ilya Kovalchuk for second-most by an active player. Both trail Alex Ovechkin, who has 22.

      This contest would also make it the third time this season to feature five tying goals and the second involving the Penguins.

    • David Pastrnak and the Boston Bruins defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-1.Pastrnak would score two goals and two assists and would be only the sixth player in Bruins history to score at least 10 goals in the teams first nine games to start the season. Phil Esposito has the team record to start a season with 14 goals and did that in 10 games to start the 1973-74 season.

      Patrice Bergeron and Pastrnak became the 15th and 16th different players to record at least 15 points or more in the first nine games of a season in franchise history.

    • Montreal Canadiens G Carey Price reached a tie for second place in franchise history for wins by a goaltender when the Canadiens defeated the Calgary Flames 3-2.Price is now tied with Hall of Famer Patrick Roy at 289.

      Price registered 21 saves in the contest.

    • The San Jose Sharks had five different goalscorers as they took down the Nashville Predators 5-4.With the Sharks win, the Predators win streak at five has been snapped. Down by two goals with less than 10 to play, San Jose would score three times. Brent Burns would net the game winner with less than three minutes to play in regulation.

      Burns, who has points in the last six games, registered the 34th game-winner of his career.

    • Arizona Coyotes Christian Fischer achieved his first career hat trick as they defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets by a score of 4-1.Fischer’s hat trick is the 11th to occur thus far on the season.

    • The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Ottawa Senators Mark Borowiecki will have a hearing today for his elbowing penalty on Boston’s Urho Vaakanainen last night.
    • The New York Islanders announced today that their contest against the Toronto Maple Leafs on February 28th, 2019 has been moved from Barclays Center to Nassau Coliseum.
