    Washington Capitals (16-3-4 36pts) v. New York Rangers (8-8-2 18pts)

    Game Recap:

At the legendary Madison Square Garden the Washington Capitals look to continue their winning ways as they take on the New York Rangers for the second time this season. In the first period, the majority of the period would feature a lot of back and forth between the two clubs. Beck Malenstyn, who is making his NHL debut, would have a really great opportunity to break the scoreless tie, but Henrik Lundqvist would shut the door to keep the game tied at zero. in the final five minutes of the period Lundqvist would be bailed out by his friend the posts as the Capitals would hit the pipe three times. Then with 34 seconds left, Tom Wilson would get called for boarding to give the Rangers the extra man advantage to start the second period.

In the second period the Rangers would be able to take advantage of the powerplay as Kaapo Kakko would do a great job of feeding Artemi Panarin to break the scoreless tie and take the 1-0 lead. The Capitals would gain a powerplay opportunity of their own, and while they would get some quality chances, the Capitals would not be able to capitalize on their extra man advantage. In the final seconds of the period Alex Ovechkin would be called for tripping Panarin, and the Rangers will start the third with the man advantage.

In the third period the Rangers would not be able to convert on the Ovechkin penalty, but Dmitry Orlov would be called for high sticking and Artemi Panarin would strike for his second of the game on the powerplay to give the Rangers the two goal lead. Then 23 seconds later Pavel Buchnevich would score his third of the season to grow the Rangers lead to three. However, on a Brendan Smith tripping penalty Evgeny Kuznetsov would get the Capitals on the board to cut the Rangers lead back to two, but in the latter half of the third period Brett Howden would get on the board to reclaim the three goal lead for the Rangers and secure the 4-1 victory.

    Game Recap:

The Washington Capitals host the New York Rangers as they look to end their three game homestand with a possible 4 out 6 standing points, and early in the first period while on the powerplay the Capitals would strike as TJ Oshie would continue to jam at the puck, in front of the net, and due to the scrum would see a Rangers defensemen inadvertently kick the puck into the net to give the Capitals the 1-0 lead. Then 10 minutes later Pavel Buchnevich would strike on a Rangers powerplay to tie the game at one, but the Capitals would strike less than three minutes later as the as the returning Michal Kempny would one time a rebound past Henrik Lundqvist to give the Capitals the 2-1 lead going into the first intermission.

Then early in the second period Nic Dowd would score his first of the season after finding the rebound and shooting it into the wide open net for the 3-1 lead. But late in the period Artemi Panarin would score his third of the season to cut the Capitals lead back to one as the Capitals head into the second intermission with the 3-2 lead.

In the third period the physicality would pick up as both Brendan Smith and Garnet Hathaway would have a fight, but Smith would also get an addition two minutes for cross checking to give the Capitals the powerplay that would see TJ Oshie score his second of the game after he would tip a John Carlson point blast to give the Capitals the 4-2 lead. Then in the final thirty seconds of the game Hathaway would score the empty net goal to secure the Capitals the 5-2 victory over the Rangers.

    Washington Capitals (37-21-7 81pts) v. New York Rangers (27-27-10 64pts)

    Game Recap:

The Washington Capitals head to the Big Apple to take on the New York Rangers for an early afternoon matinee, but it would be the Rangers striking first as Chris Kreider would pick off a Dmitry Orlov pass and feed it to Ryan Strome for a quick 1-0 lead. However, the lead would not last long as Carl Hagelin would attack the net and recover his own rebound on a broken play to score his first goal as a Capital to tie the game. Then after some back and forth for the two teams, it would be Andre Burakovsky netting his ninth of the season to give the Capitals the 2-1 lead.

In a lackluster second period that featured a couple huge saves on both sides it would be Pavel Buchnevich to finally get one to tie the game at two for the Rangers.

In the third period not a lot of action would take place in what was a quick moving period. We would require extra time, but nothing would be decided in the five minute frame. Then in the shootout, it would be a controversial play by Rangers goalie Alexandar Georgiev that would allow Alex Ovechkin to be credited with the game winning shootout goal when he would throw his stick at Ovechkin to prevent the shot on goal.
