    NHL Stars of the Week – Greaves Shines

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of April 7th through 13th.

    First Star – Jet Greaves (G – CLB)

    • Greaves – who had 16 career NHL appearances (including six this season) prior to last week (5‑9-2, 3.21 GAA, .910 SV%) – went 3-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average, .968 save percentage and one shutout to help the Blue Jackets (38-33-9, 85 points) remain in contention for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference via a perfect four-game week. He stopped 39 shots, including each of the last 34 he faced, in a 3-2 comeback victory over the Buffalo Sabres April 10. Greaves then guided Columbus to a sweep of a home-and-home series against the Eastern Conference-leading Washington Capitals, making 22 saves for his first career shutout in a 7-0 win April 12 before denying straight 29 shots (after allowing a goal on his first shot against) in a 4-1 triumph April 13. The 24-year-old Greaves, who signed with the Blue Jackets in 2022 as an undrafted free agent, owns a 5-2-2 record with a 2.22 goals-against average, .926 save percentage and one shutout in nine total NHL games this season. He also shares eighth place in the American Hockey League with 21 wins in 40 appearances for the Cleveland Monsters (21-11-6, 2.62 GAA, .920 SV%, 3 SO).

    Second Star – Connor McDavid (C – EDM)

    • McDavid topped the NHL with nine assists/points (0-9—9), recording multiple helpers in each of his three contests to propel the Oilers (47-28-5, 99 points) to their sixth consecutive playoff berth. McDavid, who also shared the League lead with a +8 rating, collected three assists in his return from an eight-game absence – a 4-3 victory against the St. Louis Blues April 9. He then posted his 11th career four-assist performance – and second of the season (also Dec. 5 vs. CBJ: 0-4—4) – in a 4-2 triumph over the San Jose Sharks April 11. The Edmonton captain added two more helpers in a 4-1 win versus the Winnipeg Jets April 13, giving him points in each of his last 16 appearances dating to Feb. 23 (4-24—28). The 28-year-old McDavid has played in 66 total contests in 2024-25 (26-73—99), ranking among the top NHL performers in assists (t-3rd; 73), points (5th; 99) and power-play points (t-12th; 31). He is the fourth player in League history to register at least five straight 70-assist campaigns, joining Wayne Gretzky (13), Bobby Orr (6) and Adam Oates (5).

    Third Star – Connor Hellebuyck (G – WIN)

    • Hellebuyck went 3-0-0 with a 1.62 goals-against average, .931 save percentage and one shutout the help the Jets (55-22-4, 114 points) clinch their first Presidents’ Trophy in franchise history. He denied 14 shots as Winnipeg halted the St. Louis Blues’ franchise-record 12-game winning streak with a 3-1 victory April 7. Hellebuyck then earned his League-leading eighth shutout of the campaign with 25 saves in a 4-0 win over the Dallas Stars April 10. He finished the week by stopping 28 shots, and turning aside two of three shootout attempts, in a 5-4 triumph versus the Chicago Blackhawks April 12. The 31-year-old Hellebuyck, the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, paces the NHL (minimum: 25 GP) in wins (46), goals-against average (2.02), save percentage (.924) and shutouts (8) through 62 total appearances this season. Only four goaltenders in League history have recorded more wins in a single campaign: Martin Brodeur (48 in 2006-07 w/ NJD), Braden Holtby (48 in 2015-16 w/ WSH), Bernie Parent (47 in 1973-74 w/ PHI) and Roberto Luongo (47 in 2006-07 w/ VAN).

    NHL Stars of the Week – Ovi’s Monumental Week

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of March 31st through April 6th.

    First Star – Alex Ovechkin (LW – WAS)

    • Ovechkin dethroned Wayne Gretzky as the NHL’s all-time goals leader, registering his 895th career goal to cap a five-goal week – during which he scored in every game (5-1—6 in 4 GP) – as the Eastern Conference-leading Capitals (49-19-9, 107 points) split their four contests. Ovechkin posted 1‑1—2, including an assist on Tom Wilson’s decisive goal, in a 4-3 victory against the Boston Bruins April 1. He then notched Washington’s lone goal in a 5-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes April 2. Ovechkin tied Gretzky with a two-goal effort, the 179th multi-goal performance of his career, in a 5-3 triumph over the Chicago Blackhawks April 4. He also extended his own League record by reaching the 40-goal milestone for the 14th time and added his 136th career game-winning goal to surpass Jaromir Jagr for the most in NHL history. Ovechkin completed his prolific week by scoring his 895th goal – at 7:26 of the second period in a 4-1 loss to the New York Islanders April 6 – to break Gretzky’s all-time goals record, a mark “The Great One” owned since March 23, 1994. The 39-year-old Ovechkin, the 10th player to hold the League’s career goals record (outright or tied), ranks fourth in the NHL with 42 total goals this season despite missing 16 contests due to injury (42-27—69 in 61 GP). The nine-time Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy winner owns a five-game goal streak dating to March 30 (6-3—9), his second such run of that length in 2024-25 (also Oct. 29 – Nov. 7: 6-3—9 in 5 GP).     Second Star – Nick Suzuki (C – MON)

    • Suzuki collected 4-3—7, including a pair of game-winning goals, in four appearances to help the Canadiens (38-30-9, 85 points) extend their winning streak to five games dating to March 30 as they created a six-point buffer for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. He scored twice, highlighted by his sixth career overtime goal (and fifth of the season), in a 3-2 victory against the Florida Panthers April 1.     Third Star – Robert Thomas (C – STL)

    • Thomas compiled 2-5—7 and two game-winning goals in three contests as the Blues (43-28-7, 93 points) extended their winning streak to a franchise-record 12 games to climb into the first Wild Card position in the Western Conference. He picked up the lone assist on Cam Fowler’s overtime winner as St. Louis rallied for a 2-1 triumph against the Detroit Red Wings April 1. Thomas then scored the decisive goal in each of the Blues’ next two games, posting 1-1—2 (highlighted by his third career overtime winner) in a 5-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins April 3 followed by 1-3—4 (his seventh career four-point performance) in a 5-4 win versus the Colorado Avalanche April 5.     Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of March 24th through 30th.

    First Star – Nikita Kucherov (RW – TB)

    • Kucherov paced the NHL with 3-8—11 in three games to overtake Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon (30-79—109 in 74 GP) for the lead in the Art Ross Trophy race and lift the Lightning (43-25-5, 91 points) into second place in the Atlantic Division via a perfect week. He notched 1-2—3, his 13th three-point performance of the campaign, in a 6-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins March 25. Kucherov then registered consecutive four-point games for the sixth time in his career, posting 1-3—4 in both an 8-0 triumph versus the Utah Hockey Club March 27 and a 5-3 win over the New York Islanders March 29. The 31-year-old Kucherov, who has recorded at least three points in three straight contests for the fourth time in his career and has accumulated 5-12—17 during an eight-game point streak dating to March 15, tops the League with 33-76—109 through 69 total appearances this season.     Second Star – Roope Hintz (C – DAL)

    • Hintz contributed multiple points in each of his four contests, finishing second in the League with 2-7—9 as the Stars (48-21-4, 100 points) clinched their fourth consecutive playoff berth on the strength of a five-game winning streak dating to March 22. He compiled five assists over his first two appearances, picking up two helpers in a 3-0 triumph against the Minnesota Wild March 24 and three apples (all in the second period as part of Jason Robertson’s natural hat trick) in a 4-3 win versus the Edmonton Oilers March 26. Hellebuyck then made 24 saves to set a franchise record with his seventh shutout of the campaign in a 4-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils March 28. The reigning Vezina and William M.     Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of March 17th through 23rd.

    First Star – Filip Gustavsson (G – MIN)

    • Gustavsson made 82 saves on 84 shots, going 3-0-0 with a 0.67 goals-against average, .976 save percentage and one shutout to propel the Wild (40-25-5, 85 points) to a perfect week. He turned aside 28 shots, including the last 26 he faced, in a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings March 17 to halt his opponent’s winning streak at five games. Gustavsson then earned his 11th career shutout (and fifth of the season) with 34 saves in a 4-0 triumph versus the Seattle Kraken March 19. He closed the week with 20 stops, extending his home shutout streak to a franchise-record 161:49 before allowing a third-period goal, in a 4-1 win against the Buffalo Sabres March 22.     NHL Stars of the Week – Kuemper’s Shutouts Earn Top Honors

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of March 10th through 16th.

    First Star – Darcy Kuemper (G – LA)

    • Kuemper yielded one goal in three starts (78 SV/79 SA), going 3-0-0 with a 0.33 goals-against average, .987 save percentage and two shutouts to help the Kings (36-20-9, 81 points) extend their winning streak to five games dating to March 8. He stopped 33 of 34 shots, including all 11 he faced in the third period, in a 4-1 victory against the New York Islanders March 11. Kuemper then earned consecutive shutouts for the fifth time in his career (also March 13-15, 2022; Feb. 13-16, 2022; Jan. 30 – Feb. 3, 2018; and Oct. 9-11, 2014), making 21 saves in a 3-0 win over the League-leading Washington Capitals (his former team) March 13 and denying 24 shots in a 1-0 overtime triumph versus the Nashville Predators March 15.     Second Star – Jesper Bratt (LW – NJ)

    • Bratt notched three points in each of his three outings, topping the NHL with 2-7—9 overall to propel the Devils (36-26-6, 78 points) to a pair of wins. He became the sixth different player in franchise history to post at least three points in three straight games and the third to do so in the past 30 years, following Jack Hughes (Oct. 20-25, 2023: 2-9—11 in 3 GP) and Ilya Kovalchuk (Feb. 2-5, 2012: 2-7—9 in 3 GP). Bratt registered 1-2—3 in each of his first two contests, a 5-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets March 11 and a 3-2 triumph versus the Edmonton Oilers March 13 in which he scored the tying goal early in the third period and collected the primary assist on the game-winner 1:35 later. He added his ninth career three-assist performance (and second of the campaign after Dec. 2 at NYR: 1-3—4) in a 7-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins March 15 to tie Scott Stevens (1993-94) for the most helpers in a single season in franchise history. The 26-year-old Bratt, who has factored on seven consecutive team goals, sits ninth in the NHL with 19-60—79 through 68 total games in 2024-25. He also places among the top 10 in power-play assists (t-2nd; 26), assists (4th; 60), power-play points (t-8th; 30) and even-strength assists (t-9th; 33).

    Third Star – Brandon Montour (D – SEA)

    • Montour totaled 3-3—6 across three appearances to lift the Kraken (29-34-5, 63 points) to five out of a possible six standings points. He tallied 2-2—4, highlighted by the winning goal four seconds into overtime (tied for the fastest goal from the start of any period in NHL history), in a 5-4 triumph versus the Montreal Canadiens March 14. Montour then scored once in a 4-2 victory against the Utah Hockey Club March 14 before collecting one assist in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets March 16. The 30-year-old Montour shares fourth place among NHL defensemen with 16 goals through 67 total contests this season (16-22—38), matching a career-high established in 80 games in 2022-23 (16-57—73 w/ FLA).

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of March 3rd through 9th.

    First Star – Nathan MacKinnon (C – COL)

    • MacKinnon topped the NHL with 4-5—9, posting multiple points in each of his three appearances to lift the Avalanche (38-24-2, 78 points) into third place in the Central Division on the strength of a five-game winning streak dating to Feb. 26. He collected a pair of assists in a 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins March 4. MacKinnon then notched his 10th career five-point performance – and third of the season (also Nov. 5 vs. SEA: 0-5—5 and Dec. 10 at PIT: 1-4—5) – with 2-3—5 in a 7-3 triumph versus the San Jose Sharks March 6. He finished the week with two goals, including his 69th career game-winner, in a 7-4 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs March 8 to reach the 100-point milestone for the third straight campaign. The 29-year-old reigning Hart Memorial Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award winner, who is one point shy of 1,000 for his career (362-637—999 in 855 GP), paces the NHL with 27-73—100 through 64 total contests in 2024-25.     Second Star – Steven Stamkos (C – NAS)

    • Stamkos placed second in the NHL with 4-4—8, also producing multiple points in each of his three outings as the Predators (24-32-7, 55 points) recorded a perfect week. He tallied 1-2—3, his second three-point effort of the season (also Jan. 14 vs. VGK: 2-1—3), in a 6-3 win versus the Boston Bruins March 4. Stamkos then posted a pair of assists, including the 600th of his career, in a 5-3 victory over the Seattle Kraken March 6. He closed the week with his 14th career hat trick, capped by his 14th career overtime goal (and 91st career game-winner), in a 3-2 triumph versus the Chicago Blackhawks March 8.     • Wilson compiled 3-4—7 to help the Capitals (42-14-8, 92 points) win all four of their games and reclaim first place in the overall League standings. He registered 1-1—2 in each of his first three outings: a 5-4 shootout win against the Ottawa Senators March 3, a 3-2 triumph versus the New York Rangers March 5 (featuring his fifth career overtime and 26th career game-winning goal) and a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings March 7.     NHL Stars of the Week – Vasilevksiy Dominates

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of February 24th through March 2nd.

    First Star – Andrei Vasilevskiy (G – TB)

    • Vasilevskiy stopped 71 of the 73 shots he faced, going 3-0-0 with a 0.67 goals-against average, .973 save percentage and one shutout as he and the Lightning (35-20-4, 74 points) both extended their winning streaks to eight games dating to Feb. 4 (1.63 GAA, .945 SV%, 1 SO). Vasilevskiy turned aside 23 of 24 shots, including each of the last 17, in a 4-1 victory against the Edmonton Oilers Feb. 25. He then made 24 saves for his 38th career shutout – tied for the third-most in the NHL since his debut in 2014-15 – in a 3-0 win over the Calgary Flames Feb. 27. Vasilevskiy finished the week with 20 stops, yielding his lone goal with 3:59 remaining in regulation, in a 3-1 triumph versus the Eastern Conference-leading Washington Capitals March 1.     Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of February 3rd through 9th.

    First Star – Brandon Hagel (LW – TB)

    • Hagel – who will represent Canada at this week’s 4 Nations Face-Off – led the NHL with 4-4—8, all at even strength, in four contests to lift the Lightning (31-20-4, 66 points) into third place in the Atlantic Division via four straight wins over division opponents. He helped Tampa Bay sweep back-to-back games versus the Ottawa Senators, one of the teams ahead of them in the Atlantic entering the week, potting the tiebreaking goal early in the third period of a 4-3 victory Feb. 4 and scoring the game-winner (his third of 2024-25) in a 5-1 triumph Feb. 6.     Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of January 27th through February 2nd.

    First Star – Ilya Sorokin (G – NYI)

    • Sorokin went 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals-against average, .953 save percentage and one shutout to help the Islanders (24-21-7, 55 points) – who ran their win streak to seven games, their longest since Feb. 28 – March 14, 2021 (9 GP), before suffering a Sunday defeat – move within four points of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. He stopped 30 shots, including all 14 he faced in the first period, in a 5-2 victory against the Colorado Avalanche Jan. 28. Sorokin then earned his 21st career shutout (all w/ NYI) – one shy of equaling Billy Smith for second place in franchise history – with 23 saves in a 3-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers Jan. 30. He finished the week with 28 stops in a 3-2 overtime triumph versus the Tampa Bay Lightning Feb. 1 to extend his personal winning streak to six games dating to Jan. 20 (1.19 GAA, .958 SV%, 1 SO), two back of his career high established from Feb. 16 – March 22, 2021 (8 GP).     Second Star – Tage Thompson (C – BUF)

    • Thompson led the NHL with 4-4—8 and a +9 rating in three games to propel the Sabres (21-26-5, 47 points) to a perfect week. He notched 3-1—4, including his seventh career hat trick (all w/ BUF – 7th in franchise history), in a 7-2 victory over the Boston Bruins Jan. 28.     • Sanderson totaled 2-4—6 in two games to power the Senators (28-20-4, 60 points) – who occupy third place in the Atlantic Division – to their fourth straight victory dating to Jan. 25. He collected 1-1—2, recording an assist while shorthanded and a goal while on the power play, in a 5-4 overtime win against the Eastern Conference-leading Washington Capitals Jan. 30.     First Star – David Pastrnak (RW – BOS)

    • Pastrnak, who was named the “Third Star” for the week ending Jan. 19, led the NHL with 3-5—8 in four contests to lift the Bruins (25-20-6, 56 points) into the first Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference via a 3-1-0 week. He registered 1-1—2 as Boston rallied for a 6-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks Jan. 20. Pastrnak then factored on the Bruins’ final six goals of the week, collecting an assist in a 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils Jan. 22, posting 1-1—2 in a 2-0 triumph against the Ottawa Senators Jan. 23 and recording 1-2—3 (his sixth three-point game of the campaign) in a 3-1 win versus the Colorado Avalanche Jan. 25. The last Boston player to factor on at least six consecutive team goals: also Pastrnak, from April 9-11, 2023 (6).     • McTavish topped the NHL with five goals in three games (5-0—5) to propel the Ducks (20-23-6, 46 points) to a 2-1-0 week. He scored once in a 5-2 loss to the Florida Panthers Jan. 21. McTavish then notched back-to-back two-goal performances, in a 5-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins Jan. 23 and a 5-2 triumph over the Nashville Predators Jan. 25.
