    NWHL Game Recap – 10/12/2019 – Metropolitan Riveters v. Minnesota Whitecaps

    Metropolitan Riveters (0-1-0 0pts) v. Minnesota Whitecaps (0-0-0 0pts)

     

    Game Recap:

    After raising their Isobel Cup Banner the Minnesota Whitecaps went right to work against the visiting Metropolitan Riveters as Jonna Curtis would throw a centering pass in front of the net, but it would deflect off of a Riveters and through the legs of goaltender Sam Walther to give the Whitecaps the 1-0 lead 49 seconds into the game. However, the Riveters would respond as Kate Leary would take advantage of a loose puck in the crease and would bank it into the net past Amanda Leveille to to tie the game at one a piece. The Riveters would not stop there as Cailey Hutchison would feed Rebecca Morse in the slot area and Morse would get the puck past a sprawling Leveille to give the Riveters the 2-1 lead, but the Whitecaps would respond as Jonna Curtis would get a bouncer past Walther to tie the game up at two a piece and her second of the game. Then on a 5 on 3 advantage for the Whitecaps Allie Thunstrom would get the puck past Walther to give the Whitecaps the 3-2 lead going into the first intermission.

     

    In the second period the Whitecaps would respond 57 seconds into the period while shorthanded as Nicole Schammel would score her first career NWHL goal to make it 4-2. Then while playing 4 on 4 Meaghan Lorence would score her first of the season off of a rebound to give the Whitecaps a 5-2 lead. Lorence would strike again, this time while shorthanded to give the Whitecaps the 6-2 lead and would end Sam Walther’s night as the Riveters head coach Ivo Mocek would have no choice but to pull Walther and put in Dana DeMartino. The Whitecaps would not slow down though while on the powerplay Jonna Curtis would net her third of the game to complete the hat trick and give the Whitecaps the 7-2 lead.

     

    In the third period Jonna Curtis would be at it again as she would tuck the puck past an already down Dana DeMartino to score her fourth goal of the game and widen the Whitecaps lead to six. Then later in the period Sydney Baldwin would score her first of the season with a beautiful rip from the faceoff circle to make it 9-2 Whitecaps. After a late rush by the Riveters the Whitecaps would hold their ground and keep the Riveters off the board to secure the 9-2 victory to open their 2019-20 season.

    NWHL News and Notes – September 23rd, 2019

    Today in the NWHL the Metropolitan Riveters announced another signing for the 2019-20 season.

     

    The Riveters announced that they have signed SWHL leading scorer Kate Leary to a one year deal.

    Kate Leary

    Leary, a Boston College Graduate, played for the Boston Blades of the CWHL for two seasons, and led the Blades in both seasons she played for them. Last season playing for Lugano of the Swiss Hockey League (SWHL) Leary scored 33 goals in 20 games played to lead the league, and was third in the league in points. This will be Leary’s first season in the NWHL and with the Riveters.

     

    All players will partake in the 50 percent cut of revenue from league sponsorship and media deals. Plus they will also receive 15 percent of revenue from apparel sold with their name on it.
