      • In Tampere, Finland for the second round of Global Series games the Colorado Avalanche would play host to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and in the first period Logan Connor and JT Compher would score to give the Avs the 2-0 lead. In the second period Jakub Voracek and Patrik Laine would strike to get the Jackets on the board, but an early Mikko Rantanen tally would keep the Avs ahead by one.       • In Tampa Bay a storm would be brewing as the Carolina Hurricanes would come to town to take on the Lightning who would be clad in their amazing Reverse Retro 2.0 jerseys, and in the first period Seth Jarvis would open the scoring for the Canes to take the 1-0 lead. In the second period Martin Necas would score for the Canes, but goals from ross Colton, Nick Paul, and Nikita Kucherov would give the Bolts the 3-2 lead. Then in the third period Brady Skjei would strike to tie the game at three for the Canes to force overtime. In the second, Elias Pettersson and J.T.     • Dallas Stars v. Arizona Coyotes – 10p ET
      • In Arizona the Coyotes would look to take down the visiting Dallas Stars, and in the first period Denis Gurianov, Wyatt Johnston, Ty Dellandrea, and Jason Robertson would score to give the Stars the commanding 4-0 lead. In the second, Jason Robertson scores a power play goal, his second goal of the night, as the Stars take the 5-0 lead. In the third, Jamie Benn’s first of the year gives Dallas the 6-0 lead but then Arizona finally gets on the board when Juuso Valimaki scores his first of the year to cut the Dallas lead by five.       • In San Jose the Sharks would play host to the Florida Panthers, and in the first period Aleksander Barkov would score on the powerplay to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead. In the second, Radko Gudas’ first of the year gives the Cats the 2-0 lead. In the third the Sharks get a trio of goals when Timo Meier, Erik Karlsson, and Matt Benning all score to give San Jose the 3-2 lead. Carter Verhaeghe then nets his fifth of the year to make this a tie game.     • The Washington Capitals recalled forwards Sonny Milano and Garrett Pilon, and defenseman Lucas Johansen from Hershey of the AHL.
      • The moves were made as a result of recent injuries to forwards TJ Oshie and Beck Malensyn, and defenseman John Carlson.

    • The NHL announced that Ottawa Senators forward Shane Pinto has been Named Rookie of the Month for the month of October.
      • Pinto would record six goals and seven points to lead all rookies, as well as record two game winners and set a franchise record with a five game goal scoring streak.
    • NHL Rookie of the Month – Pinto Leads Rookies for Top Honor

    • The NHL would announce that Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid would take top honors as First Star of the Month for October after recording 18 points in nine games played.
      • David Pastrnak (BOS) and Artemi Panarin (NYR) would round out the rest of the Three Stars for October.
    • NHL 3 Stars of the Month – McDavid Earns Top Honor for October

    • The Washington Capitals announced that forward Connor Brown underwent successful surgery on his right knee.
      • Brown had his ACL reconstructed and is expected to miss between 6-8 months.

    • The New Jersey Devils would announce that forward Ondrej Palat would undergo successful surgery for a groin injury.
      • Palat is expected to make a full recovery, and a timeline for his return will be determined at a later time when more information is available.

    NHL 3 Stars of the Month – McDavid Earns Top Honor for October

    Today the National Hockey League has announced the Stars of the Month for the month of October 2022.

    First Star – Connor McDavid (C – EDM)

    • Connor McDavid would earn the First Star honors for October after recording nine goals and nine assists for 18 points in nine games played for the Edmonton Oilers. McDavid would record a pair of hat tricks along with three four point games. To open the season McDavid would reach the 700 point plateau. McDavid would earn second star of the week honors for the opening week of the 2022-23 season, and just yesterday was named First Star of the Week ending on Oct. 30th.

      • In Buffalo, the Sabres and Red Wings face off. In the first, Buffalo jumps out to the 1-0 lead when Tage Thompson scores his fourth of the year. In the second, Detroit ties it up with Olli Maatta’s second of the year but Buffalo re-takes the lead when Jack Quinn scores his first career NHL goal. Jeff Skinner then goes on to net his second of the year to give the Sabres the 3-1 lead followed by Tage Thompson scoring on the power play, good for his second goal of the night, as Buffalo takes the three goal lead. David Perron then strikes with his fifth of the season as the Red Wings trail by two heading into the third. As the contest moves to the third, Detroit comes within a goal when Dylan Larkin scores his fifth of the year while the Red Wings are shorthanded but then Buffalo re-takes the two goal lead when Rasmus Dahlin scores a power play goal, his sixth goal of the season. Dylan Cozens then strikes with his fourth of the year to give Buffalo the 6-3 lead and then Tage Thompson completes the hat trick as the Sabres take the four goal lead. With less than a minute left in the contest, Rasmus Asplund’s first of the season gives the Sabres the 8-3 win over the Red Wings.

    • Washington Capitals v. Carolina Hurricanes – 7p ET
      • In Raleigh, the Hurricanes play host to the Capitals in a division match-up. In the first, Carolina takes the 1-0 lead when Stefan Noesen nets his first goal of the season, a power play goal. In the second, Dylan Strome ties it up for Washington with his second of the year and then Alex Ovechkin nets his fifth of the year on a Capitals power play.     Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of October 24th through 30th.

    First Star – Connor McDavid (C – EDM)

    • Connor McDavid would make his return to the Three Stars of the Week for the second time in the first three weeks of the season as he would record four goals and four assists for eight points in four games played for the Edmonton Oilers. McDavid would open the week scoreless against Pittsburgh on Oct. 24th, but he would respond with an assist in the Oilers 3-1 victory over St. Louis on Oct. 26th. Then on Oct. 27th McDavid would record a hat trick and an assist for four points in a 6-5 victory over Chicago, and to close out the week McDavid would record a goal and two assists for three points in a 3-2 victory over Calgary on Oct. 29th.

    Second Star – Jesper Bratt (LW – NJ)

    • In four games played for the New Jersey Devils, Jesper Bratt would record four goals and three assists for seven points. To open the week Bratt would score a goal in a 6-3 loss to Washington on Oct. 24th, and then would record two goals and an assist in a 6-2 victory over Detroit on Oct. 25th. On Oct. 28th he would record an assist in a 1-0 victory over Colorado, and to close out the week Bratt would record a goal and an assist in a 7-1 victory over Columbus on Oct. 30th.

    Third Star – Marc-Andre Fleury (G – MIN)

To open the week Fleury would make 26 saves in a 3-1 victory over Montreal, that would also feature him making his 22nd career stop on a penalty shot, on Oct. 25th. Then on Oct. 27th he would make 27 saves in a 4-2 victory over Ottawa, and to close out the week 23 saves in a 4-3 shootout victory over Chicago. Fleury would move past Curtis Joseph for sole possession of sixth place in win, and he would also surpass Henrik Lundqvist for first all time with 62 career shootout victories.
