    NWHL News and Notes – August 20th, 2019

    Today in the NWHL business picked up as four of the five teams added to their 2019-20 rosters.

     

    Starting with the Minnesota Whitecaps as they re-signed defender Chelsey Brodt Rosenthal to a one year deal.

    Rosenthal, returning for her second season in the NWHL, was a member of last season’s Isobel Cup championship team, and was a standout in college for the University of Minnesota from 2002 to 2006.

     

    Then the Metropolitan Riveters signed forward Brooke Avery to a one year deal.

    Avery, a New Hampshire native, played for Syracuse University and was key player for Syracuse earning their first conference title and berth into the NCAA Tournament when she would record an assist and the game winning goal against Robert Morris in the CHA Tournament Championship game.

     

    Then the Buffalo Beauts announced that they have signed forward Maddie Norton to a one year deal.

    Norton, a Buffalo native, scored a record 46 goals last season for the University of Buffalo in 18 games. Norton would also have a total of 62 points last season which was 28 more than the next highest scorer.

     

    Then the Boston Pride would sign Swedish National Team goaltender Lovisa Selander to a one year deal.

    Selander, the NCAA all time saves leader, played in all 34 games last season for RPI where she had a 2.29 GAA and an .942 save percentage. Selander also recorded a 49 save shutout and a 58 save shutout last season.

     

    All players will partake in the 50 percent cut of revenue from league sponsorship and media deals. Plus they will also receive 15 percent of revenue from apparel sold with their name on it.

    NWHL News and Notes – August 13th, 2019

    Today in the NWHL we had three big signings today as we inch closer to the 2019-20 seaaon.

     

    First we have the Boston Pride who announced that they have signed forward Marisa Raspa.

    Raspa, 23, played four seasons at RPI for a total of 131 games. The rugged forward will be joining a very deep forward group in Boston. This will be Raspa’s first season in the NWHL and with the Pride.

     

    Then the Connecticut Whale announced that they have signed goaltender Cassandra Goyette to a one year deal.

    Goyette, who graduated from Nichols College this past Spring, had a 1.42 goals against average and a .952 save percentage in 21 games during her senior season this past season. This will be Goyette’s first  season in the NWHL and with the Whale.

     

    Lastly, the Minnesota Whitecaps announced that they have signed forward Stephanie Anderson to a one year deal.

    Anderson, who spent the last two seasons playing in China in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, had 8 goals and 9 assists for 17 points in 28 games in 2017-18 with the Kunlun Red Star. Then she had 5 goals and three assists for 8 points in 28 games for Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays last season. This will be Anderson’s first season in the NWHL and with the Whitecaps.

     

    All players will partake in the 50 percent cut of revenue from league sponsorship and media deals. Plus they will also receive 15 percent of revenue from apparel sold with their name on it.

    NWHL News and Notes – August 5th, 2019

    Today in the NWHL we  had two more signing announcements for the 2019-20 Season.

     

    Starting with the Buffalo Beauts who have signed defender Marie-Jo Pelletier to a one year contract.

    Pelletier, who is 4 feet and 11 inches, played 143 games for the University of New Hampshire where she had 13 goals and 39 assists for 52 points. This will be Pelletier’s first season in the NWHL and with the Beauts.

     

    Then the Minnesota Whitecaps announced that they have signed NWHL All-Star Audra Richards to a one year contract.

    Richards, who played for the Metropolitan Riveters in her rookie season last year, scored 8 goals tying Madison Packer for the team lead, and will be going to the Whitecaps where she will be closer to home.

    Today in the NWHL we had three big signings for the 2019-20 Season.

     

    First we have the Boston Pride signing forward Alyssa Wohlfeiler to a one year contract.

    Wohlfeiher, who played for the Connecticut Whale during the inaugural NWHL season, was EC Bergkamener Bären’s (Frauen-Bundesliga in Germany) leading goal scorer last season where she scored 29 goals and recorded a total of 55 points in 27 games.

     

    Then the Buffalo Beauts would announce that they have signed University of Toronto captain Becki Bowering to a one year contract.

    Bowering, 23, will be playing in her first season in the NWHL and with the Buffalo Beauts.

     

    Then the Minnesota Whitecaps announced that they have signed forward Meghan Lorence.

    Lorence, who went to Whitecaps games when she was younger, played for the University of Minnesota winning three NCAA National Championships in four seasons. Lorence also recorded 102 points (50-52-102) in 158 games with the golden Gophers. This will be Lorence’s first season with both the Whitecaps and NWHL.

     

    No player slaries were disclosed in today’s announcements.

    Today in NWHL news the Minnesota Whitecaps announced that they have signed two more players for the 2019-20 campaign.

     

    First the Whitecaps have re-signed forward Haylea Schmid to a one year contract.

    Schmid was a member of the Whitecaps before they joined the NWHL, and played six games last season for the Whitecaps.

     

    Then the Whitecaps announced that they have signed goaltender Allie Morse for the 2019-20 season.

    Morse was also a member of the Whitecaps before they joined the NWHL, and this will mark her first season in the NWHL.

     

    Both Schmid and Morse’s salaries were not announced.

    NWHL News and Notes – July 29th, 2019

    Today the NWHL has revealed the full expanded schedule for the 2019-20 regular season.

     

    Some key notes in today’s announcement:

    1. The Buffalo Beauts will now have Northtown Center in Amherst, NY as their new home “feature rink”.
    2. The Metropolitain Riveters will play at ProSkate in Monmouth Junction, NJ.
    3. The Minnesota Whitecaps will once again call TRIA Rink home this season, while the Boston Pride will be at Warrior Ice Arena again this season.
    4. The Isobel Cup Champion Whitecaps will begin their defense with back to back games on Oct. 12th and 13th when they host the Riveters.
    5. There are two midseason games listed as “To Be Announced” – Dec. 28th when the Beauts host the Riveters, and then on Feb. 1st when the Whale host the Riveters. The NWHL plans to have special events at unique venues in the local communities for those two games. Details will be announced soon.

    Today in the NWHL we had another preseason game announced for the Minnesota Whitecaps, and the Connecticut Whale signed another player for the 2019-20 campaign.

     

    First it was announced that the Whitecaps will be facing off with the University of Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, September 28th, 2019 at 5p ET/4p CT.

    This is the second exhibition game announced for the Whitecaps leading into the 2019-20 season.

     

    Then it was announced that the Whale have re-signed forward Grace Klienbach.

    Klienbach, who originally played for the Whale during the 2017-18 season, is returning for her second stint with the team and second stint in the NWHL.

    Today in the NWHL we were given amazing news in regards to some preseason action that will be taking place this September.

     

    First on July 5th the NWHL announced that the Connecticut Whale will take on the University of Connecticut on Saturday 28th at 3p EST.

    Then this morning the NWHL announced two more preseason games.

     

    First you will have the Metropolitan Riveters take on Long Island University on Saturday September 28th at 745p EST in what will be the first time ever an NWHL team and a D1 Women’s Hockey team play a game on Long Island.

    Then it was announced that the Minnesota Whitecaps will take on the University of Minnesota on Sunday September 22nd at 2p CST.

    Then in NWHL news, it has been announced that the home rink for the Connecticut Whale will be Danbury Arena located in Fairfield County.

    The Whale will hold all of their practices and have all of their home games at Danbury Arena for the 2019-20 season.

    Today in the NWHL the Minnesota White Caps announced that they have re-signed Lisa Martinson for the 2019-20 season.

    Prior to coming to the Whitecaps Martinson played 126 games for St. Cloud State where she posted 19 points (7-12-19) for the Huskies. Martinson’s salary was not disclosed.
