The Kings need scoring and speed, and without both of those, it could be a difficult 2019-20 season. Only time will tell to see how the Kings turn things around under McLellan.

TXHT Jersey Share is going on a road trip to sunny Hollywood for a look at this beautiful Los Angeles Kings jersey.

    Kings Home Black 2016 Front.jpg

So funny story about this one. I actually was in Los Angeles during the summer of 2016 for a convention, and I flew into Los Angeles a couple days early so I could explore as much as I could with my friend Brian before the convention started. One of those places we visited was the Sataples Center and when we got to the team store all they had for Kings jerseys were XXL so obviously a jersey wasn’t in order, but I did get that years draft hat so I can atleast say I got something from the Staples Center. However, no matter where I went around town I would not be able to find a Kings jersey either in my sizer, or to my liking. So I bought a Los Angeles Dodgers jersey instead. *laughs*

    Kings Home Black 2016 Back

Though through great luck and fortune our friends at Cool Hockey were having a sale to clean out their their stock of Reebok jerseys to make way for the new Adidas jerseys, and I was able to finally secure my Kings jersey. Also through Cool Hockey I was able to get the back customized with my name and number, plus the NHL 100 Patch on the sleeve. Overall a quality jersey and great job by the people at Cool Hockey for making it possible to get this one in my collection.

So full disclosure the number one reason I got this jersey because it was purple, and that is my favorite color. Also this a jersey I purchased from my friends Mark and John when they were doing their moving sale before they moved from Virgina to Florida.

In regards to the jersey itself, I really like the overall design of the jersey as it does a few things differently comparedmost jerseys. The crowns on the sleeves to the word “MANCHESTER” on the bottom to mimicks when the Los Angeles King used to have “LOS ANGELES” on the bottom of their jerseys before moving to what they have now. NHL News: Arbitrator Rules on Voynov

Today in NHL news Arbitrator Shyam Das issued his decision in regards to Slava Voynov’s appeal to his one year suspension, which honestly we didn’t know was happeninng and honestly shouldn’t have either, but here we are.

So here is the statement by the NHL and NHLPA in regards to Voynov’s suspension:

NEW YORK/TORONTO (May 23, 2019) – The National Hockey League Players’ Association and National Hockey League announced today that Arbitrator Shyam Das has issued his decision with respect to the appeal of defenseman Vyacheslav Voynov’s one-season suspension issued pursuant to Article 18-A of the NHL/NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Arbitrator Das upheld the Commissioner’s determination that Voynov be suspended for the equivalent of one NHL season, but found that he is to be credited with having already served 41 games of such suspension during the 2018-19 regular season. Accordingly, the suspension will remain in effect until the mid-point of the 2019-20 regular season.

Here is the statement by the NHL in regards to the decision on the Voynov appeal:

NEW YORK (May 23, 2019) – The National Hockey League released the following statement today regarding Arbitrator Shyam Das’ decision in the NHLPA’s appeal of Vyacheslav Voynov’s League-imposed suspension for domestic assault:

“We have reviewed Arbitrator Das’ opinion in the NHLPA’s appeal of Vyacheslav Voynov’s suspension for domestic assault, which upheld the Commissioner’s imposition of a one-season (one-year) suspension for Voynov’s off-ice conduct in October 2014. In his decision, Arbitrator Das confirmed that there was substantial evidence to support each of the Commissioner’s material factual findings as well as the quantum of discipline imposed. Arbitrator Das described his decision to grant Mr. Voynov some ‘credit for time served’ for a portion of the 2018/19 season as being due to various ‘highly unusual facts and circumstances [which] were not contemplated by the drafters of [the CBA] and do not easily fit into its procedures.’ While we do not believe Mr. Voynov was entitled to any ‘credit’ for time missed during 2018/19 season, we accept Arbitrator Das’ conclusion that the precise factual context here was unusual – including the fact Voynov has not played in the NHL since October 2014, and that he did not play professional hockey at all during the 2018/19 season.

“Taken in its totality, we are satisfied that Arbitrator Das’ decision supports our strongly held views that the conduct engaged in by Mr. Voynov in this case was completely unacceptable and worthy of significant League-imposed discipline. The decision also confirms and reaffirms the Commissioner’s broad authority under the CBA and applicable League Rules to establish – and to enforce – appropriate standards of conduct for individuals involved in the National Hockey League.”

Then we had the statement from the Los Angeles Kings who still hold the rights to Voynov:

“Today the NHL arbitrator rendered a final decision on further discipline to Slava Voynov. From our perspective, the player will not be playing for the Kings. We will now determine the impact of the arbitrator’s decision on our rights to the player and consider our options going forward.”

We here at TXHT try to stay partial, but this a topic that we are going to express our opinions freely on because we are honestly disturbed that Slava Voynov has been reinstated and served with a one year suspension opening the door for him to come back. He should never be allowed to play ever again in the NHL for what he has done. He beat his girlfriend to a bloody pulp and it’s disgusting. People like Voynov do not deserve the privilege to play in the NHL, and we applaud the Los Angeles Kings on their swift action and issuing a statement declaring that Voynov will not play for them.

  • NHL Suspends Slava Voynov for 2019-20 Season and Entire 2020 Playoffs

In breaking news, it was announced today that NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has suspended defenseman Slava Voynov for the entire 2019-20 NHL season, as well as the entire 2020 NHL Playoffs for his Domestic Violence charges back in 2014.

Voynov, who was suspended indefinitely back on October 20th, 2014, was charged with a felony charge of corporal injury to a spouse. While his wife defended him, Voynov would plead no contest to the charges and serve 90 days in jail and 3 years on probabtion. However, the conviction was expunged from his record thus opening the door for his potential return to the NHL.

In Bettman’s statement announcing Voynov’s year long suspension, he had the following to say:

    IMG_20190409_162919

Now many will want to compare this case to that of Auston Watson’s from earlier this season, but the two are completely separate cases. While what Watson did is wrong, the initial 27 game suspension was correct for him and his actions. For Voynov, we are talking about an individual who beat his wife bloodly and had her hospitalized. Voynov has been gone now for five seasons, and with this new suspension, will be banned from the League for a total of six years.

While I agree with the notion that Voynov should never play in the NHL ever again, when you look at this punishment that totals 6 years of his NHL career gone because of his actions, I’m ok with this being a one year suspension.

Now with that said there are some serious questions that need to be asked, and the first one that comes to everyone’s mind is will this be appealed? We’ve seen two suspensions shortened this season for Watson and Tom Wilson, but will we see one for Voynov? This is a very unprecedented event taking place, and the only thing I can think of that is remotely close to this is back in 2000 when Marty McSorley was suspended for his assault on Donald Brashear during a game that brought criminal charges. However, once McSorley’s suspension was doled out it effectively ended his career as he was nearing retirement at the time of his transgressions. If we get an appeal, it will be one of the most interesting cases that we will have upon us, but at this point and given the situation, an appeal should not be entertained.

Another question that is being asked is should any teams entertain the thought of signing Voynov? As mentioned earlier, Voynov will have been out of the NHL for 6 years come July 2020, and he has been playing in the KHL, but it’s not the same as playing in the NHL. Plus you have to look at any backlash that an organization may face just for even considering the notion of signing him.  It’s a very slippery slope for any team to appraoch.

Lastly, a question that needs to be answered is will Voynov be allowed to play anywhere while he is suspended from the NHL for the 2019-20 season and playoffs? This is a very interesting topic, as normally when you are suspended you are not allowed to play, but Voynov is currently a free agent because of the Los Angeles Kings voiding his contract back in 2014. So will Voynov be allowed to play in say the American Hockey League or even back in Russia in the KHL? My assumption would be that he would not be allowed to play as he is in fact suspended, but only time will tell in that regard.

In my humble and honest opinion I agree with the suspension that has been doled out here today by Gary Bettman. Six years is a very long time to be away from the League, and by the time July 1st, 2020 comes around interest in Voynov could die completely and he just goes away.
