    Game Recaps:

    Toronto Maple Leafs v. Boston Bruins – 7p EST Start Time

    The Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs would renew their rivalry once again, this time in Boston as both teams look for their sixth win of the season. In the first period David Pastrnak would score a sneaky one for his 10th of the season on the powerplay. Then in the second period Kasperi Kapanen would get on the board for the Leafs to tie the game, but less than two minutes later Brad Marchand would strike to retake the lead for the Bruins. However, Alexander Kerfoot would score on the powerplay to tie the game back up at two. Then in the third period the Bruins would get a pair of goals from Brett Ritchie and Par Lindholm to secure a 4-2 victory over the Leafs.

     

    San Jose Sharks v. Buffalo Sabres – 7p EST Start Time

    In Buffalo the Sabres play host to the San Jose Sharks, and it would be the Sharks swimming all over the Sabres as they would get goals from Dylan Gambrell (first career NHL goal) and Marc-Edouard Vlasic to take a 2-0 lead. Then in the second period Jack Eichel would score for the Sabres while on the powerplay, then with 31 seconds left in the period Sam Reinhart would tie the game at two. Then in the third period Jeff Skinner would score 45 seconds into the game for the Sabres to take the lead, but Erik Karlsson would score his first of the season to tie the game and send it to overtime, which would see Jack Eichel score his second of the game to give the Sabres the 4-3 victory.

     

    Pittsburgh Penguins v. Florida Panthers – 7p EST Start Time

    In Florida the Panthers take on the Pittsburgh Penguins and after a scoreless first period both teams would trade goals in the second. first it would be the Panthers striking with a Noel Acciari marker, then the Penguins would strike with a Teddy Blueger tally, but then the Panthers would strike back with a Denis Malgin goal to take the 2-1 lead. Then in the third period Patric Hornqvist would score for the Penguins, but the Panthers would get goals from Jonathan Huberdeau and Frank Vatrano to secure a 4-2 victory for the Panthers.

     

    Arizona Coyotes v. New York Rangers – 7p EST Start Time

    At the legendary Madison Square Garden the New York Rangers would take on the Arizona Coyotes. In the first period the Coyotes would get the lone strike as Lawson Crouse would score his second of the season. Then in the second period Anthony DeAngelo would score his second of the season to tie the game at one, but late in the period both teams would trade powerplay goals as both Alex Goligoski and DeAngelo (his second of the game) would make this a 2-2 game heading into the second intermission. After a scoreless third period it would be the Coyotes striking in overtime as Christian Dvorak scoring his fourth of the season to give the Coyotes the 3-2 victory.

     

    Vancouver Canucks v. Detroit Red Wings – 730p EST Start Time

    In Detroit the Red Wings would take on the Vancouver Canucks, and in the first period Anthony Mantha would strike for the Wings on the powerplay for the lone tally of the period. In the second period the Wings would get the lone goal from Dennis Cholowski to gain the 2-0 lead, but in the third period the Canucks would score five unanswered goals to take the victory. The Canucks would get a hat trick from captain Bo Horvat (2 PPGs, and an even strength goal), as well as goals from Jake Virtanen and Tim Schaller to secure the victory 5-2.

     

    Anaheim Ducks v. Nashville Predators – 8p EST Start Time

    In Nashville the Predators look to feast on the Anaheim Ducks, and the first period would look good for the Predators as Roman Josi would score on the powerplay followed by a Colton Sissons tally to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.  Then in the second period the Predators would score two more goals as Rocco Grimaldi and Mattias Ekholm (SHG) would get on the board to expand the lead to four. Then in the third period the ducks would finally get on the board as Ryan Getzlaf would score his third of season, but the Predators would with two more goals as Viktor Arvidsson and Calle Jarnkrok would tally to give the Predators the 6-1 victory.

     

    Edmonton Oilers v. Minnesota Wild – 8p EST Start Time

    In Minnesota the Wild would smother the Edmonton Oilers in the first period as they would strike three times in the first period. The Wild would get back to back goals from Eric Staal, and then a powerplay goal from Brad Hunt to take the 3-0 lead into the first intermission. Then the Wild would shut the door the following two periods as they would go on to win 3-0.

     

    Los Angeles Kings v. Winnipeg Jets – 8p EST Start Time

    In Winnipeg the Los Angeles Kings look to ground the Jet, but in the first period we would see both teams trade goals as Austin Wagner would score for the Kings, then Kyle Connor would strike for the Jets as they head into the first intermission tied at one. Then in the second period the two teams would trade goals again as Kurtis MacDermid would score for the Kings, and Nikolaj Ehlers would respond for the Jets. Then in the third period Anze Kopitar would score the lone goal of the period to give the Kings the 3-2 victory.

     

    Vegas Golden Knights v. Chicago Blackhawks – 830p EST Start Time

    VGK RoadCHI Home

    In Chicago the Blackhawks would host the Vegas Golden Knights, and in the first period Kirby Dach would score his first career NHL goal in his second career game to give the Blackhawks the 1-0 lead. However, after a scoreless second period, in the third period the Knights would strike when Nick Holden would score with 93 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Then in the shootout it would be Shea Theodore scoring the winning goal in the third round to give the Golden Knights the 2-1 victory.

     

    Washington Capitals v. Calgary Flames – 9p EST Start Time

    John Carlson would score 2 goals to reach 20 points and lead the Washington Capitals over the Calgary Flames 5-3. TXHT Recap

    Game Recaps:

    Vancouver Canucks v. New York Rangers – 1p EST Start Time

    The Vancouver Canucks take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, and the first period would be all Canucks as they would get goals from Bo Horvat (PPG), Brock Boeser, and Jay Beagle (SHG), and  that would be all that they would need to defeat the Rangers. The Rangers would get a second period goal from Jesper Fast, and a third period tally from Artemi Panarin, but the Canucks would hold on for the 3-2 victory.

     

    Montreal Canadiens v. Minnesota Wild – 5p EST Start Time

    In Minnesota the struggling Wild play host to the Montreal Canadiens. In the first period the Wild would get a powerplay goal from Jason Zucker to take the 1-0 lead, but in the second period the Canadiens would strike for back to back goals from Tomas Tatar (PPG) and Phillip Danault to take the 2-1 lead. However, with 15 seconds left in the period Marcus Foligno would score his first of the season to tie the game at two. Then in the third period Phillip Danault would score his second of the game for the Canadiens, but the Wild would respond with a Brad Hunt powerplay goal and Zach Parise goal to defeat the Canadiens 4-3.

     

    Washington Capitals v. Chicago Blackhawks – 7p EST Start Time

    The Capitals kick off their five game road trip with a 5-3 victory over the Blackhawks as Carl Hagelin and Lars Eller both would have two point nights. TXHT Recap

     

    Edmonton Oilers v. Winnipeg Jets – 7p EST Start Time

    In Winnipeg the Jet and the Edmonton Oilers would go scoreless all the way to the shootout that would see Kyle Connor and Patrik Laine score to give the Jets the 1-0 victory.

     

    Calgary Flames v. Anaheim Ducks – 10p EST Start Time

    In Anaheim the Ducks would fall to the Calgary Flames in a closely contested matchup. After a scoreless first period the Ducks would score 12 seconds into the second period when Jakob Silfverberg scored his fifth of the season, but the Flames would respond with a Michael Stone tally to tie the game. Then in the third period Mikael Backlund would score his second of the season to give the Flames the 2-1 victory.

    News:

    • The Washington Capitals placed forward Richard Panik on Long Term Injury due to an upper body injury, and also announced Jonas Siegenthaler as a game time decision for the night’s game against the New York Rangers.
    • The Capitals also recalled forward Travis Boyd and defenseman Martin Fehervary from Hershey of the AHL.

     

    • The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Detroit Red Wings forward Darren Helm has been fined $5000, the maximum under the CBA, for slashing Calgary Flames forward Elias Lindholm in Calgary on Thursday, October 17th.

     

     

    Game Recaps:

    Colorado Avalanche v. Florida Panthers – 7p EST Start Time

    In Florida the Panthers host the red hot Colorado Avalanche, but it would be the Panthers striking for three goals in the first period as Jonathan Huberdeau would strike for two goals, and Frank Vatrano would score while shorthanded. However, the Avalanche would get a goal from Joonas Donskoi in the first period as the Panthers went into the first intermission with the 3-1 lead. Then in the second period the Avalanche would get two goals from Andre Burakovsky and a goal from Matt Nieto, while the Panthers would get a goal from Brett Connolly as the game would be tied going into the second intermission. After a scoreless third period they would require overtime which would see Nathan MacKinnon score in overtime to secure the 5- victory.

     

    Dallas Stars v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

    In Pittsburgh the Penguins would host the struggling Dallas Stars and after a scoreless first period both teams would trade goals as Roope Hintz would score to give the Stars the 1-0 lead, but Jared McCann would tie the game for the Penguins heading into the second intermission. Then in the third period the Penguins would get two goals from Kris Letang and a goal from Patric Hornqvist, while the Stars would get a goal from John Klingberg, but it would not be enough as the Penguins would defeat the Stars 4-2.

     

    New York Rangers v. Washington Capitals – 7p EST Start Time

    Columbus Blue Jackets v. Chicago Blackhawks – 830p EST Start Time

    In Chicago the Blackhawks would take on the Columbus Blue Jackets, and in the first period the Blackhawks would strike for the 1-0 lead as Drake Caggiula would get on the board late int he first period. Then in the second Pierre-Luc Dubois would score for the Blue Jackets to tie the game at one, but in the third period the Blue Jackets would get another goal from Markus Nutivaara to take the 2-1 lead, but Alex DeBrincat would score to tie the game and send it to overtime. In overtime it would be Jonathan Toews would deflect the puck past Elvis Merzlikins to give the Blackhawks the 3-2 victory.

     

    Detroit Red Wings v. Edmonton Oilers – 9p EST Start Time

    In Edmonton the Oilers would take on the Detroit Red Wings, and it would be an all seond period affair as both James Neal and Ethan Bear would score for the Oilers, but Mike Green would score for the Red Wings. However, that would all that would be needed for the Oilers to take the 2-1 lead.

     

    Carolina Hurricanes v. Anaheim Ducks – 10p EST Start Time

    In Anaheim the Ducks take on the Carolina Hurricanes, and in the first period the Ducks would get goals from Adam Henrique and Troy Terry to give the Ducks the 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Then in the second period both teams would trade goals as the Hurricanes would get goals from Erik Haula (PPG) and Hayden Fleury, while the Ducks would respond with goals from Jakob Silfverberg and Carter Rowney (SHG) to secure the 4-2 victory.

    In Pittsburgh the Penguins host the undefeated Colorado Avalanche, and a little over three minutes into the period Matt Calvert would strike for the Avalanche to make it 1-0, but late in the period Sidney Crosby would strike with a highlight reel goal to tie the game at one going into the first intermission. In the third period Nathan MacKinnon would tie the game and send it to overtime for the Avalanche. However, in overtime it would be the Penguins prevailing as Branden Tanev would score his first as a Penguin to give the Penguins the 3-2 victory.

     

    Toronto Maple Leafs v. Washington Capitals – 7p EST Start Time

    The Washington Capitals would erupt for three goals in 78 seconds to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs and secure their first home victory of the season. TXHT Recap

     

    Dallas Stars v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 7p EST Start Time

    In Columbus the Blue Jackets would get the jump on the visiting Dallas Stars as they would get goals from Zach Werenski and Alexander Wennberg to get the 2-0 lead, but before the period would end Miro Heiskanen would score for the Stars to cut the Blue Jackets lead to one as they entered the first intermission. In the second period we would have no goals scored but in the third period Sonny Milano would score to extend the Blue Jackets lead to 3-1. Joe Pavelski would score his first as a Star to cut the lead to one, but the Jackets would hold on to win 3-2.

     

    Philadelphia Flyers v. Edmonton Oilers – 930p EST Start Time

    In Edmonton the Philadelphia Flyers come to town looking for the victory, but it would be the Oilers striking first as Leon Draisaitl would stike 73 seconds into the game for the quick 1-0 lead. However, Jakub Voracek would respond on the powerplay to tie the game at one, but Ethan Bear would score his first goal of the season to give the Oilers the 2-1 lead going into the first intermission. In the second period the Oilers would get goals from Connor McDavid (SHG), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Draisaitl (second of the game) to take a commanding 5-1 lead into the second intermission. Then in the third period former Flyer Brandon Manning would score to increase the Oilers lead to five. However, the Flyers would respond with goals from Oskar Lindblom and Jakub Voracek (PPG), but it would not be enough as the Oilers would win 6-3.

     

    Buffalo Sabres v. Anaheim Ducks – 10p EST Start Time

    Heading into Anaheim the Buffalo Sabres were able to strike first against the Ducks as Jack Eichel would get on the board with his fourth of the season to give the Sabres the 1-0 lead. Then the red hot Victor Olofsson would score his sixth of the season on the powerplay to give the Sabres the 2-0 lead, but Adam Henrique would score to cut the Sabres lead to one as both teams head into the first intermission. In the second period the Ducks would respond with two more goals as Rickard Rakell and Ryan Getzlaf (PPG) would score to give the Ducks the 3-2 lead. Then with less that 15 seconds left in the period Adam Henrique would score his second of the game as the Ducks take a 4-2 lead into the second intermission. In the third period the Ducks would get another goal, this time from Jakob Silfverberg as they would take the 5-2 victory.

    In San Jose the Sharks would try to temper the storm of the Carolina Hurricanes and they would in the first period as they would get a hat trick from Evander Kane (even strength and 2 PPGs), but the Hurricanes would respond with a Dougie Hamilton goal as the Sharks take the 3-1 lead to the first intermission. In the second period Barclay Goodrow would strike for the Sharks to take a 4-1 lead into the third period. In the third period Erik Haula would score for the Hurricanes, but Tomas Hertl would strike back for the Sharks as they would take the 5-2 victory.

    Anaheim Ducks v. Boston Bruins – 1p EST Start Time

    In Boston it would be the David Pastrnak show as he would score all four Bruin goals as they defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-2. Pastrnak would score two goals at even strength and the other two on the powerplay. Rickard Rakell and Adam Henrique would score for the Ducks.

     

    Minnesota Wild v. Ottawa Senators – 1p EST Start Time

    In Ottawa the Minnesota Wild look to gain their first victory of the season, and after going over 45 minutes of scoreless hockey with the Senators until Victor Rask would break the tie with the eventual game winner. Then late in the period Zach Parise would score to ice the victory for the Wild as they get their first victory with the score of 2-0.

     

    Florida Panthers v. New Jersey Devils – 1p EST Start Time

    In New Jersey the Devils continue to struggle as the Florida Panthers were able to come from behind and explode with a three goal third period to defeat the Devils. In the first period Jonathan Huberdeau would score 16 seconds into the game to give the Panthers the fast 1-0 lead, but the DEvils would respond with goals from Taylor Hall and Jesper Bratt to take the 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Then in the second period Will Butcher and Pavel Zacha would score in the first 70 seconds to give the Devils the commanding 4-1 lead, but then the Panthers would strike back with five unanswered goals as Brett Connolly would score back to back goals in the second, and then in the third MacKenzie, Noel Acciari and Evgenii Dadonov would score to secure the Panthers 6-4 victory.

     

    St. Louis Blues v. New York Islanders – 1p EST Start Time

    On the island the New York Islanders play host to the St. Louis Blues as they look to break even at .500, and it would require overtime to do so. After going down by two to the Blues after they got goals from Brayden Schenn and Vladimir Tarasenko, the Islanders would storm back in the last six minutes of the third period to force overtime when Brock Nelson and Matthew Barzal would score to tie the game at two. Then in overtime Devon Toews would score less than 75 seconds into overtime to seal the victory for the Islanders 3-2.

     

    Dallas Stars v. Buffalo Sabres – 3p EST Start Time

    In Buffalo the Sabres look to keep the Dallas Stars down as they come to town, and the hometown Sabres would strike first after a scoreless first period as Victor Olofsson would score on the powerplay to give the Sabres the lead. Then Sam Reinhart would score late in the second period to give the Sabres the 2-0 lead heading into the second intermission. Then in the third period the Sabres would get goals from Jeff Skinner and Marcus Johansson to secure the 4-0 victory.

     

    Colorado Avalanche v. Washington Capitals – 5p EST Start Time

    After a lackluster first period the Washington Capitals fall to the Colorado Avalanche 6-3 as the Avalanche go 5-0-0 to start the season. TXHT’s Recap

     

    Edmonton Oilers v. Chicago Blackhawks – 830p EST Start Time

    In Chicago the Edmonton Oilers look to win their sixth straight to start the season, but the Blackhawks had other plans as they would get a second period goal from Patrick Kane to break the scoreless tie. Then in the third period, goals from Alexander Nylander and Brandon Saad would seal the deal for the Blackhawks as they would secure a 3-1 win and give the Oilers their first loss of the 2019-20 season. The Oilers lone goal would come from James Neal late in the third period.

    Florida Panthers v. Buffalo Sabres – 7p EST Start Time

    In Buffalo the Sabres look to keep their winning ways goings as they host the Florida Panthers, and after a scoreless 39 minutes and 31 seconds the Sabres would strike first as Johan Larsson would score his first of the season to give the Sabres the 1-0 lead heading into the second intermission. The Sabres would feed off of their momentum as Marco Scandella would score two minutes into the third to give the Sabres the 2-0 lead. However, the Panthers would respond with goals from Evegnii Dadonov and Mike Hoffman to tie the game at two and send it to overtime. After 5 minutes of scoreless overtime the game would go to the shootout, and the Sabres would get goals from Jack Eichel and Casey Mittlestadt to give the Sabres the 3-2 victory.

     

    Anaheim Ducks v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 7p EST Start Time

    The Anaheim Ducks come to town as they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets looking for their fourth win of the season. After a scoreless first period the Ducks would get goals from Jakob Silfverberg and Cam Fowler to give them the two goal lead, but Pierre-Luc Dubois would score to cut the Ducks lead to one. However, after a scoreless third period Fowler’s goal would stand to become the game winner as the Ducks defeated the Blue Jackets 2-1.

    In Carolina the Hurricanes look to make franchise history as they aim to win their fifth straight game to start the season as they host the New York Islanders. In the first period both teams would traded goals as the Hurricanes would strike first a Teuvo Teravainen would score four minutes into the game, but then Brock Nelson would tie the game back up at one on the powerplay. However, the Hurricanes would get the final goal of the period as Brett Pesce would score to make it 2-1 going into the first intermission. Then in the second period Johnny Boychuk would score on the powerplay to tie the game for the Islanders at two, but the Hurricanes would score three unanswered goals as Erik Haula and Dougie Hamilton would score in the second period, and then Andrei Svechnikov would score his first of the season in the third period to ice the 5-2 victory for the Hurricanes.

    News:

    • Dallas Stars restricted free agent defenseman Julius Honka has signed with JYP Jyvaskyla in Finland. Honka’s agreement does include an out clause that will allow him to return to the NHL when the opportunity presents itself.

     

    • Carolina Hurricanes have announced that forward Jordan Martinook will undergo surgery on Friday, October 11th to repair a core muscle injury. Martinook is expected to miss between 6-8 weeks.

     

    Game Recaps:

    Tampa Bay Lightning v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7p EST Start Time

    Coming to Toronto the Tampa Bay Lightning get forward Brayden Point back into the lineup after missing the first three games due to injury, and Point wouldn’t need long to get back into the groove of things as he would score in the first two and a half minutes to give the Lightning the early 1-0 lead over the Maple Leafs. However, the Leafs would score the next two as Andreas Johnsson would score on the powerplay, and John Tavares would follow up with a goal of his own to give the Leafs the 2-1 lead, but Nikita Kucherov (PPG) and Steven Stamkos would both score to regain the lead for the Lightning. Before the end of the first period both teams would trade goals as Auston Matthews would tie the game at three, but Stamkos on the powerplay would give the Lightning the 4-3 lead heading into the first intermission. Then going into the second period Point would strike again for the Lightning as they would take a 5-3 lead into the second intermission. Then in the third period the Lightning would get a goal from Ondrej Palat, and Nikita Kucherov would score his second of the game to give the Lightning the 7-3 victory.

     

    Detroit Red Wings v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p EST Start Time

    In an Original Six matchup the Detroit Red Wings visit the Montreal Canadiens, and a little past the halfway mark of the first period Darren Helm would score his first of the season to give the Red Wings the 1-0 lead. Then heading into the first intermission both clubs would trade goals in the final minute of the period as Joel Armia would score for the Canadiens, then Tyler Bertuzzi would take the lead back for the Red Wings. In the second period Max Domi would score to tie the game at two, but then Anthony Mantha would score on the powerplay to give the Wings a 3-2 lead going into the second intermission. Then in the third period the Wings would get a goal from Luke Glendening to seasl the victory over the Canadiens 4-2.

     

    Edmonton Oilers v. New Jersey Devils – 7p EST Start Time

    The New Jersey Devils host the Edmonton Oilers as they look to win their first game of the season, and the Devils would get an early jump on a Kyle Palmeri goal, but then Leon Draisaitl would score for the Oilers to tie the game up at one heading into the first intermission. Then in the second period Nikita Gusev would score for the Devils to regain the lead, but again the Oilers would strike as Jame sNeal would score his seventh of the season on the powerplay to tie the game back up at two heading into the second period.Then Damon Severson and Connor McDavid would swap goals to send the game to overtime tied 3-3. After a scoreless overtime period the game would go to the shootout where Draisaitl would be the lone goal scorer to give the Oilers the 4-3 shootout victory.

     

    Anaheim Ducks v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

    In Pittsburgh the Penguins would look to tame the Anaheim Ducks, and on the powerplay early in the second period Sidney Crosby would score the first goal of the game, but the Ducks would respond as Ondrej Kase would score to tie the game at one going into the second intermission. Going into the third period the Penguins would get a goal from Jake Guentzel who would score his first of the season to give the Penguins the 2-1 victory.

     

    St. Louis Blues v. Ottawa Senators – 730p EST Start Time

    In Ottawa, the Senators host the St. Louis Blues and Vitaly Abramov would score his first career NHL goal to give the Senators the 1-0 lead over the defending Stanley Cup Champions near the halfway point of the first period. Then to end the first the Senators would get a goal from Artem Anisimov to give them the 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. Then in the second period the Blues would respond with goals from David Perron (PPG) and Oskar Sundqvist to tie the game at two. To end the second period Chris Tierney would score shorthanded to give the Senators their lead back heading into the second intermission. Then in the third period Jay Bouwmeester and Brayden Schenn would score for the Blues, but Anthony Duclair would score late to tie the game at four for the Senators. But it would be Ryan O’Reilly to score the final goal to give the Blues the 6-4 victory.

    In Winnipeg the Jets would host the Minnesota Wild, and the Wild would strike first as Ryan Hartman scored his first goal as a member of the Wild to give them the 1-0 lead going into the first intermission. In the second period it would be the Jets taking off as they would get goals from both Blake Wheeler and Patrik Laine to give the Jets the 2-1 lead over the Wild heading into the second intermission. Then in the third period the Wild would get a goal from Brad Hunt to tie the game at two, but the Jets would score three unanswered goals as Kyle Connor, Jack Roslovic, and Patrick Laine (second of the game) to give the Jets the 5-2 victory.

     

    San Jose Sharks v. Chicago Blackhawks – 830p EST Start Time

    In Chicago the San Jose Sharks look to end their four game losing streak, but it would be the Blackhawks striking first as Dominik Kubalik would score his first of the season to give the Blackhawks the 1-0 lead, but then the Sharks would respond as Kevin Labanc would score on the powerplay to tie it up at one. The Blackhawks and Sharks would trade goals one more time before the period ends as Andrew Shaw would score to give the Blackhawks the lead again, but the returning Patrick Marleau would score on the powerplay to tie the game for the Sharks going into the first intermission. In the second period both teams would trade goals once again as the Blackhawks would get another goal from Shaw and Dylan Strome would net his first of the season, while for the Sharks would get goals from Brent Burns and Marleau (second of the game) to keep the game tied as both teams enter the second intermission tied a four a piece. Then in the third period Barclay Goodrow would score the lone goal of the period to give the Sharks their first win of the season with the 5-4 regulation victory.

     

    Calgary Flames v. Dallas Stars – 830p EST Start Time

    For the Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars both teams are looking for their second win of the season, and in the first period neither team would get the puck in the net, but in the second period the Flames would score two early as Elias Lindholm (PPG) and Noah Hanafin would score to make it 2-0 Flames. However, before the end of the second Joel L’Esperance would score for the Stars cut the Flames lead to one heading into the second intermission. In the third period Jamie Benn would score his first of the season nine seconds into the third on the powerplay to tie the game at two. After a scoreless overtime period the game would go to the shootout which would see the Flames get goals from Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau to secore the 3-2 victory.

     

    Boston Bruins v. Colorado Avalanche – 9p EST Start Time

    In Colorado the Boston Bruins look to end their four game road swing to start the 2019-20 season as they face the Avalanche. The Bruins would start out fast as they would get goals from David Pastrnak and Zdeno Chara to take the 2-0 lead, but Nathan MacKinnon would score late on the powerplay to start the Avalanche’s comeback. In the second period Pierre-Edouard Bellemare would score to tie the game at two, and then in the third period Andre Burakovsky would score his first goal as a member of the Colorado Avalanche to give them the 3-2 lead. Then late in the third Gabriel Landeskog would score to give the Avalanche a two goal lead and eventual 4-2 victory.

     

    Vegas Golden Knights v. Arizona Coyotes – 10p EST Start Time

    In Arizona the Coyotes play host to the Vegas Golden Knights and in the first period would get a two goal lead over the Knights as Conor Garland would score his first career NHL goal, and Nick Schmaltz would score his first of the season to give the Coyotes the 2-0 lead. But with five seconds left in the first period Shea Theodore would score to make it 2-1 Coyotes going into the first intermission. Then in the second period Garland would score his second of the game, and Niklas Hjalmarsson would score to give the Coyotes the 4-1 lead heading into the second intermission. There would be no goals scored in the third period as the Coyotes earn themselves the 4-1 victory.

    News:

    • The Winnipeg Jets have granted defenseman Dmitry Kulikov a personal leave from the team. The Jets have also designated Kulikov to the Non-Player Roster, and will not count against the team’s active 23 man roster. However, Kulikov’s cap hit will continue to count against the Jets salary cap.
      • As a result of Kulikov’s personal leave and Josh Morrissey’s injury the Jets have also called up defenders Sami Niku and Nelson Nogier from the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.
      • The Jets also placed forward Bryan Little on the injured list.

     

    • The San Jose Sharks have signed veteran forward Patrick Marleau to a one year $700k deal.

    Carolina Hurricanes v. Florida Panthers – 7p EST Start Time

    In Florida, the Carolina Hurricanes look to continue their winning ways as they take on their host Panthers, and the Hurricanes would keep their surge going as they would score four goals in the first period as Jordan Staal, Teuvo Teravainen, Dougie Hamilton, and Ryan Dzingel would all get the puck past Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Going into the second period the Panthers would put Sam Montembeault between the pipes to start, but Dzingel would still score his second of the game to give the Hurricanes the 5-0 lead. However, the Panthers would finally get on the board as MacKenzie Weegar would get one past James Reimer to make it 5-1. Then in the third period the Panther would get powerplay goals from Keith Yandle  and Evgenii Dadonov, but Sebastian Aho would score late to give the Hurricanes the 6-3 victory.

    The Edmonton Oilers head to the Island to face the New York Islanders as they look for their third consecutive victory, and in the first period the Islanders would take the lead on an Anthony Beauvillier shorthanded goal, but the Oilers would respond as they would get back to back goals from James Neal at even strength and on the powerplay to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. In the second period James Neal would complete the natural hat trick when he would score his second powerplay goal of the game. Then Zack Kassian would score his third of the season to give the Oilers a 4-1  lead. Then in the third period James Neal would score his fourth of the game to lead the Oilers to an eventual 5-2 viictory. Matt Martin would score the Islanders second goal of the game in the third.

     

    Winnipeg Jets v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

    The Winnipeg Jets look to get themselves in the win column as they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins, but it would be the Penguins who would strike first when Sidney Crosby would strike 32 seconds into the game. However, the Jets would respond with goals from Ville Heinola and Nikolaj Ehlers to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. In the second period the Jets would soar as they would score two more goals as Tucker Poolman and Neal Pionk would get on the board to grow the Jets lead to 4-1. The Jets would hold the Penguins scoreless in the third period to win 4-1.

     

    Dallas Stars v. Washington Capitals – 7p EST Start Time

    After going almost scoreless for two periods, the Detroit Red Wings would score with five seconds left in the second period to take the 1-0 lead off of a Filip Hronek goal. However, going into the third period it would be all Anaheim as the Ducks would get three unanswered goals from Rickard Rakell, Nick Ritchie, and Jakob Silfverberg to collect the 3-1 victory.

    Looking for their first win of the season the San Jose Sharks travel to Nashville hoping to feast on the Predators. However, it would be the Predators who would takedown the Sharks instead as they got a two goal game from Roman Josi, as well as goals from Kyle Turris, Filip Forsberg, and Dante Fabbro to secure a 5-2 victory. the Sharks would get their goals from Evander Kane, who was returning from his three game suspension, and Brent Burns.

     

    Los Angeles Kings v. Calgary Flames – 9p EST Start Time

    In Calgary the Flames host the Los Angeles Kings as they look to get themselves in the win column, and through two periods it would be tightly contested but with the Kings with the slight edge on the score board. While the Flames got second period goals from Matthew Tkachuk and Mikael Backlund, it would be first period goals from Tyler Toffoli and Sean Walker, and a second period goal from Ilya Kovalchuk to give the Kings the 3-2 lead going into the second intermission. Then in the third period with a 64 seconds left in regulation Matthew Tkachuk would score his second of the game to tie it a three and send the game into overtime, but it would be Drew Doughty to end it in 50 seconds to give the Los Angeles Kings the 4-3 overtime victory.

     

    Boston Bruins v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p EST Start Time

    In Vegas the Boston Bruins would make their third stop of their four game road trip to start the season, and right away the Golden Knights would get the jump on the Bruins with two goals in the first half of the first period from Mark Stone and Reilly Smith. But then in the second half of the first period the Bruins would come back with goals from David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand to tie the game a two going into the first intermission. Then in the second period the Bruins would get another goal from Marchand 33 seconds into the period, and then a little less than two minutes later David Backes would score to make it 4-2 for the Bruins. In the third period the Golden Knights would get a powerplay goal from Max Pacioretty to cut the deficit to one, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Bruins would go on to win 4-3.

    The New York Rangers would get a hat trick from Mika Zibanejad after he would score a powerplay goal, even strength, and shorthanded goal to help lead the Rangers to a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators. Rangers also got a powerplay goal from Artemi Panarin, which Zibanejad assisted on, while the Senators got their lone goal Brady Tkachuk.

     

    Tampa Bay Lightning v. Florida Panthers – 7p EST Start Time

    In a tightly contested matchup, the Florida Panthers would defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 after getting a hat trick from Mike Hoffman (2 PPG’s and 1 ESG) and a goal from Noel Acciari. The Lightning would get their goals from Gemel Smith, Steven Stamkos, and Mathieu Joseph.

     

    Columbus Blue Jackets v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

    The Pittsburgh Penguins would get two goal games from both Patric Hornqvist and Jared McCann to lead them to a 7-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.     The Anaheim Ducks host the struggling San Jose Sharks as they look to add to the woes of the Sharks, and pile on they would as they would score three goals in the first two periods to have a 3-1 lead going into the third period. The Ducks would get goals from Michael Del Zotto, Ryan Getzlaf, and Adam Henrique to seal the deal for the Ducks as those three goals would be all they would need to down the Sharks whose lone goal was from Logan Couture.

For the Kings they would get goals from Dustin Brown, Trevor Lewis, Anze Kopitar, Michael Amadio, and Drew Doughty, while the Oilers would get a pair of goals from James Neal, and goals from Connor McDavid, Zack Kassian, Joakim Nygard, and Darnell Nurse. Once the dust settled and the final buzzer sounded it would be the Oilers holding off the Kings with a 6-5 victory.

    • The Chicago Blackhawks re-signed forward Alex DeBrincat to a new three year deal. The contract will run through the 2022-23 season and will carry an AAV of $6.4mil.

     

    • Per Andrew Gross of Newsday, New York Islanders General Manager Lou Lamoriello confirmed that Josh Ho-Sang’s representative has requested a trade. Per Gross’ report Lamoriello has asked Ho-Sang to not report to Bridgeport of the AHL until he can explore all options.

     

    • The Calgary Flames have announced that they have re-signed General Manager Brad Treliving to a multi-year extension.

    In Carolina the Hurricanes would host the Montreal Canadiens for their home opener and this would be the first game of the 2019-20 NHL season to go to a shootout after being tied 3-3 after 65 minutes of action. The Huricanes would get goals from Linus Wallmark, Martin Necas, and Erik Haula while the Canadiens would get goals from Tomas Tatar, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and Jordan Weal in regulation. Dougie Hamilton would score in the first round of the shootout and Petr Mrazek would stop all three shooters to win the game for the Hurricanes 4-3.

     

    Winnipeg Jets v. New York Rangers – 7p EST Start Time

    In a matchup everyone has been waiting since the trade between these two teams, the New York Rangers hosted the Winnipeg Jets for their home opener, and would win 6-4 in a very tightly contested game between the two teams. The Rangers would get goals from newcomers Artemi Panarin (signed from Columbus) and Jacob Trouba (Trade with Winnipeg) as well as goals from Marc Staal, Mika Zibanejad, Brett Howden, and Brendan Smith. The Jets would get goals from Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, and a pair from Blake Wheeler.

     

    Buffalo Sabres v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

    The Buffalo Sabres entered their 50th season by visiting the Pittsburgh Penguins, and they would spoil the home opener for the Penguins as they would get two goals from former Penguin Conor Sheary, and a late second period goal from Rasmus Dahlin to defeat the Penguins 3-1. The Penguins lone goal would be from Evgeni Malkin on an early second period powerplay.

     

    Minnesota Wild v. Nashville Predators – 8p EST Start Time

    The Nashville Predators would open up their season by hosting the Minnesota Wild, and the Predators would dominate the Wild 5-2 after scoring four unanswered goals in the third period to erase a one goal deficit for the victory. The Wild would get goals from Jason Zucker and Matt Dumba in a 43 second span late in the second period to make it 2-1 after Ryan Ellis initially gave the PRedators the one nothing lead. The Predators four third period goals would come from Markus Granlund, Austin Watson, Viktor Arvidsson, and Filip Forsberg.

    After having a special ceremonial puck drop with the 43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush, the Stars would be dimmed by the visiting Boston Bruins as the Bruins would get two first period goals from Brett Ritchie and Danton Heinen within the first six minutes to guarantee them victory. The Stars lone goal of the 2-1 loss was from Roope Hintz.

     

    Calgary Flames v. Colorado Avalanche – 9p EST Start Time

    In the Colorado Avalanche’s home opener against the Calgary Flames it would be Mikko Rantanen netting two goals for the Avalanche along with goals from Joonas Donskoi, who also scored two, and JT Compher to secure the 5-3 victory over the Flames. The Flames would get goals from Sean Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau, and Mark Giordano.

     

    Arizona Coyotes v. Anaheim Ducks – 10p EST Start Time

    In our final game of NHL action for the night the Anaheim Ducks would hold of the Arizona Coyotes with a 2-1 victory after Cam Fowler would score with 32 seconds left in the second period to break the 1-1 tie. Ducks would also get a goal from Derek Grant, while the Coyotes got their lone goal from Derek Stepan.
