    Today is Monday, November 19th, 2018, and these are your news and notes.

    A quick recap of yesterday’s contests:

     

    Dallas 6, NY ISLANDERS 2

    Dallas Stars Jason Spezza would collect his 900th career point in the Stars win over the Islanders yesterday.  His 900th point would be an assist on Roope Hintz’s first career NHL goal.

     

    CAROLINA 2, New Jersey 1

    In the Carolina Hurricanes one-goal win over the New Jersey Devils, the Hurricanes would score two goals in the span of eight seconds to seal the win.

    The franchise mark is two goals in six seconds, which was set on March 28, 1987, when the Hartford Whalers did it against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

     

    CHICAGO 3, Minnesota 1

    Colorado 4, ANAHEIM 3 (OT)

    The Colorado Avalanche would get their 1,000th win as a franchise in the overtime frame with the win over the Anaheim Ducks last night.

    Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen also became the eighth player in the franchise history or the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche to have 30 points in 20 games played with the club last night.

    Colorado would score the overtime winner with two seconds left in the overtime frame.

     

    Vegas 6, EDMONTON 3

    The Vegas Golden Knights went on to double up the Edmonton Oilers with a 6-3 win.

    Marc-Andre Fleury would go on to have 29 saves in the win.

    There are nine games on the docket tonight across the NHL.

    There were 11 contests in the NHL and one contest in the NWHL yesterday

     

    Detroit 3, NEW JERSEY 2 (OT)

    The Detroit Red Wings had another comeback in their contest against the New Jersey Devils yesterday afternoon.  The Red Wings came back from a 2-0 deficit to win the contest..

    Tampa Bay 6, PHILADELPHIA 5 (OT)

    Brayden Point had consecutive multi-goal games for the first time in his career and joined three other players in Tampa Bay Lightning history to have such a mark.

    Despite the loss in overtime, the Philadelphia Flyers would score four goals in the span of 6:04 to tie the game against the Lightning.  Philadelphia also became the ninth club to score four goals in the final 10 minutes of the contest to tie a game.

    Buffalo 3, MINNESOTA 2

    The Buffalo Sabres would go on to defeat the Minnesota Wild and with the win, the Sabres now have 26 points in their last 2mi0 contests and the second best 20 game start since the overtime point era started.

    OTTAWA 6, Pittsburgh 4

    Ottawa Senators Mark Stone had a game with two goals on four shots to help lift the Ottawa Senators past the Pittsburgh Steelers with a 6-4 win.

    Matt Duchene would also reach the 500 point mark with a two goal, one assist performance in the win as well.

    NY RANGERS 4, Florida 2

    New York Rangers Filip Chytil became the only teenager in the long-history of the NY Rangers to score in three straight games in the win over the Florida Panthers yesterday.

    Columbus 4, CAROLINA 1

    Columbus Blue Jackets Cam Atkinson registered the fifth career hat trick in Blue Jackets history with the rout of the Carolina Hurricanes last night.

    Montreal 3, VANCOUVER 2

    Elias Pettersson scored to be the third player in Vancouver Canucks history to register 11 goals in 16 games in the Canucks 3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens yesterday.

    Montreal Canadiens Max Domi became the tenth player to have a nine game point scoring streak in their first season with the franchise.

    NASHVILLE 5, Los Angeles 3

    Los Angeles Kings Dion Phaneuf became the seventh player this season to play in his 1,00th NHL game in the Kings 5-3 loss to the Nashville Predators last night.

     

    Boston 2, ARIZONA 1

    Boston Bruins Forward Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson would score his first career goal in the Bruins win over the Arizona Coyotes.

     

    CALGARY 4, Edmonton 2

    Elias Lindholm would score twice to help the Calgary Flames double up the Edmonton Oilers in a 4-2 win.


    SAN JOSE 4, St. Louis 0

    San jose Sharks D Erik Karlsson scored his first goal as a member of the franchise and helped shutout the St. Louis Blues 4-0.

    Joe Pavelski would also score in the contest and this would also be his fourth consecutive game with a goal.

     

    NWHL

     

    The lone NWHL contest of yesterday pitted the Boston Pride against the Buffalo Beauts.

     

    Boston’s Jillian Dempsey and Gigi Marvin would both score twice to give the Pride a big win over the Buffalo Beauts at Warrior Ice Arena last night.

     

    Dempsey scored her goals in the first period and then sealed the win for the Pride with her second goal of the contest with 6:40 left in the third period.

     

    The Boston Pride would play strong defensively in this contest, giving up Buffalo’s lone goal at the 7:40 mark in the second.  Hayley Scamurra would get the goal for Buffalo.

     

    Hayley Scamurra has four goals and four assists on the season.

     

    Pride G Katie Burt registered 25 saves on 26 shots and Beauts G Nicole Hensley would have 22 saves on 26 shot attempts.

     

    With the win, Boston is now in second place in the NWHL standings at 3-1 with the Minnesota Whitecaps at 6-0, who return to NWHL action in two weeks.

     

    The Buffalo Beauts now sit at 2-3-0 in the standings, good for third place.  The Metropolitan Riveters are at 1-5-0 and rounding out the standings is the winless Connecticut Whale at 0-3-0.

     

    The Boston Pride and Buffalo Beauts will face off again at 2:30pm today at Warrior Ice Arena.

    There were four contests last night…

     

    NY RANGERS 2, Vancouver 1

    There were two different Rangers players that scored last night that were under the age of 21 in New York’s contest against the Vancouver Canucks last night.

     

    Henrik Lunqvist moved into a tie for seventh place for wins by a goaltender with 437 in the win over Vancouver.

     

    CAROLINA 3, Chicago 2 (OT)

     

    Carolina so far this season has registered the most shots on goal in NHL history through the first 18 games of the season

     

    Chicago Blackhawks Alex DeBrincat played in his 100th NHL career game and scored his 37th career goal.

     

    Only six other Blackhawks have scored at least 37 goals in 100 NHL career games.

     

     

    Columbus 2, DALLAS 1

     

    The Columbus Blue Jackets to 7-0-0 against the Dallas Stars in the last seven games dating back to December 29th, 2015.

     

    ANAHEIM 2, Nashville 1 (SO)

     

    Anaheim Ducks G John Gibson earned his 99th career win with the Ducks shootout victory over the Nashville Predators last night.

    -Washington Capitals F Tom Wilson’s 20-game suspension for his illegal check to the head of St. Louis Blues F Oskar Sundqvist was reduced to 14 games by independent arbitrator Shyam Das earlier today.

    -The National Women’s Hockey League announced today that the 2019 NWHL All-Star Game will be held in Nashville, Tennessee.

    BUFFALO 4, Vancouver 3 (SO)

     

    The Buffalo Sabres overcame a multi-goal deficit in the last five minutes and would win the contest for the seventh time in franchise history and the first since March of 2010 in a 3-2 win in a shootout over the Montreal Canadiens.

     

    PHILADELPHIA 4, Chicago 0

    Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux became the ninth player to reach the 50 game mark while registering three points in a contest.

     

    Nashville 5, DALLAS 4 (OT)

     

    Mattais Ekholm netted the game-winner in the extra frame to give the Nashville Predators the 5-4 win over the Dallas Stars.

     

    Nashville is 8-0-0 on the road this season.  They are the third team in League history to win at least eight of their first road games to start the season.

     

    BOSTON 5, Toronto 1

    Boston Bruins David Pastrnak registered a hat trick for the second time this season against the Toronto Maple Leafs and joins six others for the same mark between the regular-season and the playoffs.

    Between three lead changes in this contest, the Montreal Canadiens would go on to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 5-4.  Tomas Tatar would net the game winner against his former club.

    Prior to the contest, the Montreal Canadiens honoured Max Pacioretty with a video tribute.

     

    Ottawa 6, TAMPA BAY 4

    Ottawa Senators Bobby Ryan has a three point performance, one goal and two assists, to lift the Senators over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

     

    FLORIDA 4, NY Islanders 2

     

    Florida Panthers Mike Hoffman extended his point-scoring streak to 11 games with a goal in the second period to help the Florida Panthers defeat the New York Islanders 4-2.

     

    PITTSBURGH 4, Arizona 0

     

    Pittsburgh Penguins G Casey DeSmith would net the shutout against the Arizona Coyotes with a 39 save performance and help the Penguins snap a five game slide.

     

    Detroit 4, CAROLINA 3 (SO)

     

    Detroit Red Wings G Johnathan Bernier made 45 saves and helped lift the Detroit Red Wings over the Carolina Hurricanes in a 4-3 shootout win.


    The Red Wings would also overcome a multi-goal deficit to win three consecutive games for the first time in the decorated franchise history of the Detroit Red Wings.

     

    NY Rangers 5, COLUMBUS 4 (SO)

     

    The New York Rangers have extended their point-streak in the standings to 6 games.

     

     

    Jimmy Vessey would net the winner in the shootout frame for the Rangers.

     

     

    Calgary 1, LOS ANGELES 0

     

    In the lone goal of the contest, Calgary’s Travis Hamonic would score his second goal of the season in the first three minutes of the contest.

    -The Florida Panthers honoured original team President, Mr. Torrey, last night with a video.  Mr. Torrey passed away back in May at the age of 83.

    -The Montreal Canadiens held their annual Military Tribute night by wearing camouflage practice jerseys before their contest against the Vegas Golden Knights last night.

    Today is Friday, November 9th, 2018, and these are your news and notes…

    In action yesterday, there were nine contests…

     

    Vancouver 8, BOSTON 5

     

    Vancouver had eight goals in a contest for the first time in nearly a decade in the win over Boston at TD Garden last night.

     

    FLORIDA 4, Edmonton 1

     

    Florida’s Mike Hoffman extended his point scoring streak to 10 games when he registered two assists in the Panthers 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

     

     

    PHILADELPHIA 5, Arizona 4 (OT)

    Despite the Philadelphia Flyers win in overtime over the Arizona Coyotes, Arizona is the second team to have nine shorthanded goals in 14 games since 1933-34.

     

    They share the record with the 1975-76 St. Louis Blues franchise.

     

    Buffalo 6, MONTREAL 5 (OT)

     

    The Buffalo Sabres would win on an overtime goal by Rasmus Ristolainen, the fourth in franchise history in regular-season play by a defenceman.

     

    Vegas 5, OTTAWA 3

     

    Vegas’ fourth line would power the team through a hard-fought win over the Ottawa Senators and earn the season-sweep.

     

    TAMPA BAY 4, NY Islanders 2

     

    The Tampa Bay Lightning for the second straight season have 25 points through 16 games or less with the win over the Islanders last night.

     

     

    Carolina 4, CHICAGO 3

     

    Despite being down by four, Chicago’s comeback in the contest fell short when they were defeated by Carolina in the debut for Chicago’s new bench boss, Jeremy Colliton.

     

     

    DALLAS 4, San Jose 3

     

    San Jose’s Brent Burns became the fourth member in team history to record at least 20 points in 16 or fewer team games last night.

     

    Joe Thornton would, in fact, play in his 1500th NHL game, the most ever for a number one overall pick in League history.

     

    Minnesota 3, LOS ANGELES 1

     

    -Minnesota’s Zach Parise registered his 700th career point and leads all active U.S. born players with 339 goals.

    In NHL news,

     

    -The Washington Capitals will host their annual Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness night.

     

     

    -Yesterday, the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks unveiled the jerseys that they will wear for the 2019 NHL Winter Classic.

    -With the 2018 Hockey Hall of Fame induction happening Monday night, the new inductees received the rings as a part of festivities.

     

     

    Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs host the New Jersey Devils in the annual Hockey Hall of Fame Game at Scotiabank Arena.

    There will be more on the Hall of Fame induction ceremony Tuesday.

     

    -The Chicago Blackhawks and 2018 first round pick, defenceman Nicolas Beaudin, agreed to a three-year, entry level deal.

    Beaudin will remain with the QMJHL’s Drummondville Voltiguers.

     

    -Vegas Golden Knights D Nate Schmidt, who is still suspended for a violation of the League’s Substance Abuse Policy, participated in practice earlier today.

    Also with the Golden Knights, the team today announced that they will hold their Military Appreciation night on November 14th.

     

    -John Carlson of the Washington Capitals will miss tonight’s contest.  In a corresponding move, the Washington Capitals recalled Jonas Siegenthaler from the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears.

    -The Montreal Canadiens announced earlier today that Tomas Plekanec has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purposes of buying out his contract.

    Today is Wednesday, November 7th, and these are your news and notes…

    There were nine league contests last night.

     

    The Maple Leafs won their 10th game of the season out of 15 games for the 11th time in franchise history and the first since the 2013-14 season when they won 10 games out of the first 14.

     

     

    Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist won his 436th career game and is now one win shy of tying Jacques Plante for seventh place all time.

     

     

    Max Domi would score all three of Montreal’s goals in the contest to give him a goal-scoring streak of four contests and has 16 points on the season, including nine goals thus far.

    The Columbus Blue Jackets have defeated the Dallas Stars for the sixth consecutive time.

     

     

    Ottawa’s Mark Stone had a five-point game to lift Ottawa to the win over New Jersey. Stone is the fifth player in Senators’ history to have multiple five point games in the regular season.

     

     

    Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson would score yet again and continues to lead all rookies in goals and points but would still fall to the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout.

     

    Pettersson has scored 10 goals in 10 games played. He is the fifth player outside of the League’s first season to score 10+ goals through their first 10 NHL games.

     

     

    In Tampa Bay’s Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness night, Tampa Bay would get the win in the contest over the Edmonton Oilers and move to a record of 11-3-1 and into first place in the NHL standings.

     

     

    St. Louis F Ryan O’Reilly registered a hat-trick and would extend his point streak to eight games in the contest against the Hurricanes. O’Reilly also had an eight-game point streak during the 2015-16 season.

     

     

    In this match-up, Ilya Kovalchuk had one goal and two assists in the first game for new Kings head coach, Willie Desjardins.

     

     

     

    San Jose’s Joe Thornton played in his 1499th NHL contest last night and tied Mike Modano for 19th all time.

     

     

    With his next game, Thornton will become the first overall pick in the history of the NHL Draft to reach the 1500 game milestone.

     

    As a note from the contests yesterday, this would only be the fifth time in League history where the home teams swept a schedule of 9+ games.

    -Edmonton Oilers Milan Lucic will have a hearing today for roughing Tampa Bay’s Mathieu Joseph in last night’s contest.

     

     

    The NHL’s Department of Player Safety in accordance to the hearing announced that Lucic has been fined $10,000, the maximum allowed under the CBA, for roughing Mathieu Joseph.

     

     

    -Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada’s Elliotte Friedman released his “31 Thoughts” article yesterday. The topic revolves around the Ottawa Senators Uber video and the fallout.

     

     

    -The Los Angeles Kings announced that Adam Oates has joined the team in a consulting role.

    Today is Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 and these are your news and notes.

     

    There were three contests in the NHL.

    The first contest of the day was the conclusion of the NHL Global Series in Finland between the Winnipeg Jets and the Florida Panthers. Florida went on to win the contest 4-2.

    Mike Hoffman of the Panthers scored one of three unanswered goals when Florida was down 2-1 to Winnipeg.

    Panthers G Roberto Luongo made 32 saves in his return to the lineup to earn his first win on the season and the 472nd of his career. He is 12 games away from tying Ed Belfour for third place all time on the regular season wins list.

    Hoffman extended his point streak to nine games, a career-high.

    -The Vancouver Canucks defeated the Colorado Avalanche 7-6 in overtime.

    Elias Pettersson had a great game scoring two goals and had three assists for a five point game.

     

    Pettersson is the 16th player in history to score at least 9 goals in his first nine career games.

    -The Arizona Coyotes went on to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3 in overtime.

    Coyotes Brad Richardson scored his League-leading third shorthanded goal of the season and Michael Grabner, 77 seconds into overtime, would score the game-winner.

    With this win, Arizona has won five consecutive games for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

    The Coyotes have netted seven shorthanded goals thus far on the season and at least one in the last four games.

    Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, these are your news and notes for Wednesday, October 17th, 2018.

     

    There were eight contests in the NHL yesterday…

    • Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers went on to defeat the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 in overtime.Connor McDavid scored twice in the contest and in doing so, McDavid continued a streak of attributing to all of the Oilers goals thus far on the season. McDavid became the first player in NHL history to record a point on all nine of the team’s goals to begin the season. The NHL record for most points by a player at any point is 15, a mark set by Jaromir Jagr in the 1999-2000 season.
    • Kyle Palmieri would score for New Jersey and became the first player in League history to score the opening goal for his team in four straight games to open up the season. Only one player has started off with five and that mark belongs to Johnny Bucyk during the 1965-66 season.

      New Jersey would go on to win the contest 3-0 over the Dallas Stars.

      Keith Kinkaid would go on to register 24 saves to lead the Devils to a 4-0-0 record on the season thus far. This is the fourth time in franchise history that the Devils have won at least their first four games to start off the season. The last time they started off 4-0-0 was during the 1995-96 season.

    • Vegas Golden Knights G Marc-Andre Fleury won his 407th game to move into a tie for tenth place with Glenn Hall on the all-time list for wins by a goaltender.

      Vegas would defeat the Buffalo Sabres 4-1.

      With this victory, Vegas surpassed the Montreal Canadiens for the second most wins all time within the first 100 regular season games at 53 wins in 89 total games played. The original Ottawa Senators had more wins (63) within 100 games. The Golden Knights play their 100th regular season game on November 11th against the Boston Bruins.

    • Sebastian Aho and the Carolina Hurricanes fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2. Aho extended his point-scoring streak to seven games and became the sixth player to record at least a point in each of the team’s first seven games to begin a season.

    Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, these are your news and notes for Monday, October 15th, 2018.

     

    There were three contests in the NHL yesterday.

    • Kyle Palmieri recorded two goals, his third consecutive multi-goal outing, to lift the New Jersey Devils over the San Jose Sharks with a 3-2 victory. In addition, Palmieri became the fourth player to record multi-goal games in each of his team’s first three games to kick off the regular-season campaign.

      Also in this contest, Joe Pavelski became the fifth player in NHL history to record at least 700 career points for a player drafted after the 200th overall pick.

With this hearing, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Matheson has been suspended for two games.

     

    In NWHL news:

    • The NWHL announced the Player of the Week is Lexi Bender. Bender was dominant on both sides of the ice, recording two assists in Boston’s 5-1 win over the Metropolitan Riveters. She carried plays amongst her units in almost every shift on the ice.

    • The Metropolitan Riveters will raise their 2017-18 Isobel Cup championship banner before their contest on Saturday against the Minnesota Whitecaps at 2 p.m. ET.

    Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, these are your news and notes for Wednesday, October 10th, 2018…

    There were six contests in the NHL.

    • Auston Matthews and John Tavares would both score two goals for the second consecutive game to defeat the Dallas Stars 7-4. Matthews and Tavares are the sixth set of teammates in League history, and the third in the modern era (1943-44), to score six or more goals in a team’s first four games. Matthews has also gone on to collect at least two points in all of Toronto’s contests thus far.
    • Joe Pavelski and Evander Kane would score multiple goals each to lift the San Jose Sharks in a 8-2 rout of the Philadelphia Flyers. With Pavleski scoring two goals, he remains one point shy of becoming the third player to record 700 points in San Jose Sharks franchise history. Patrick Marleau (1082 pts) and Joe Thornton (974 pts) are the other two players to reach the 700 point plateau.
    • Five different skaters scored last night for the Carolina Hurricanes would would go on to defeat the Vancouver Canucks 5-3. With the victory, the Hurricanes extended their season-opening point streak to 7 (3-0-1). The Hurricanes have a combined 13 goals in their last two contests, matching a total for consecutive games since April 6-8, 2010.Sebastian Aho would extend his point streak to four games and this game marked the third time in the last four games in which a Carolina player would record at least one point in each of the team’s first four games.

    Washington Capitals beat writer Isabelle Khurshudyan released an article about a conversation that happened between Brett Connolly and Devante Smith-Pelly and what that did. Also in the article is how new acquisition Dmitri Jaskin could be a good reclamation project.

    Also in Capitals news, F Tom Wilson is scheduled to have his hearing about his suspension with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman sometime next week.

    The NHL announced a time change for the Boston Bruins versus Detroit Red Wings game on Saturday. The game will now start at 3 p.m. to accommodate the Boston Red Sox vs. Houston Astros Game 1 of MLB’s ALCS.
