    NWHL All Star Rosters Announced!

    NWHL All Star Draft

    The NWHL named their All Star rosters yesterday. There will be two teams which will be captained by Minnesota Whitecaps defensemen Lee Stecklein and Buffalo Beauts goalie Shannon Szabados.
    Let’s look at the rosters:

    Team Stecklein

    Lee Stecklein

    The captain of the all star team is still looking for her first goal of the year, but she has tallied six assists, one on the power play, in the eight games she has played.

    Nicole Hensley

    The US goalie boasts a record of 1-1 with a 2.00 GAA and a .889 save percentage on the year. She also has recorded a shutout, which came against the Whale in Connecticut.

    Amanda Leveille

    The starting goalie for the Whitecaps has had a great season, boasting a record of 6-2 with a 2.32 GAA and a .916 save percentage.

    Emily Pfalzer

    In the six games that she has played this season, she has registered one goal on the year.

    Lisa Chesson

    In the six games that she has played so far this season, she has tallied one goal and added three assists for four points on the year.

    Courtney Burke

    In the five games that she has skated this season, she is still looking for her first goal of the year, but she has tallied two assists. One of those assists came on the power play.

    Alyssa Gagliardi

    In the seven games played she has registered one goal and one assist. Her goal came on the power play.

    Michelle Lowenhielm

    The Swedish NWHL rookie is still looking for her first goal but she has tallied three assists, including one on the power play and one while shorthanded.

    Emily Fluke

    One of the players voted to the All Star Game via fan vote; the captain of the Whale, in the six games she has played, has registered one goal and two assists for three points on the year. One assist came on the power play.

    Hannah Brandt

    In the eight games she has played, she has registered three goals and three assists for six points on the year. One of her goals came while the team was shorthanded.

    Dani Cameranesi

    In the four games that she has skated, she has tallied one goal on the year while also contributing five assists for six points.

    Gigi Marvin

    In the seven games she’s played, she has registered six goals and three assists for nine points. She is tied for the team lead in goals and she leads the team in points.

    Jonna Curtis

    In the eight games she has played, she has tallied four goals and seven assists for eleven points on the year. She leads the Whitecaps in points.

    Jillian Dempsey

    In the seven games she’s played, she has registered six goals and added two assists for eight points. She is tied for the team lead in goals.

    Allie Thunstrom

    In the eight games she has played, she has put up two goals and two assists for four points on the season.

    Kate Schipper

    In the eight games that she has skated, she tallied four goals and four assists for eight points on the year.

    Team Szabados

    Shannon Szabados

    The captain of the all star team and the second Beauts goalie at the all star game, the Canadian Olympian boasts a record of 2-2 with a 1.75 GAA and a .934 save percentage. She has also registered one shutout on the year.

    Meeri Raisanen

    The first year NWHLer and Finnish Olympian boasts a record of 2-3-1 and has a 2.72 GAA and a .918 save percentage. She also has one shutout registered on the year, which she got on her birthday against the Riveters in Pittsburgh.

    Blalke Bolden

    In the six games she has skated this year, she is still looking for her first goal of the season, but has tallied two assists for the Beauts.

    Savannah Harmon

    In the six games she has played this season, she has tallied one goal for the Beauts this season.

    Lexi Bender

    In the seven games she has played this season, she is still looking for her first tally of the year, but has contributed four assists.

    Michelle Picard

    Just recently named to the US Women’s National Team Winter Camp, she has had a good season with the Riveters registering one assist in the nine games she has played this year.

    Shannon Doyle

    The defensemen has had a great year blocking many shots but also tallying two goals on the year. These two goals have come in her last three games including a late game winner against the Riveters.

    Amanda Boulier

    The former Whale defender and a All Star last year has had a great season, tallying three goals and two assists, including a game winning goal against the Riveters on their opening night at Prudential Center.

    Audra Richards

    One of the players selected by the NWHL Fan Vote, this NWHL rookie has tallied six goals on the year in the nine games she has played. She even recorded a hat trick against the Whale. Interesting fact, all six of her goals have all been at home.

    Kendall Coyne Schofield

    The US Olympian has played six games this season for the Whitecaps. She has registered one goal and four assists for five points on the year. The lone goal that she scored was shorthanded.

    Amanda Pelkey

    In the seven games she has played, she has registered two goals and two assists for four points on the year. One of her goals came on the power play.

    Amanda Kessel

    The US Olympian and the better Kessel sibling, has had a great year in her NWHL return. She has one goal on the year but leads the team with six assists and also leads the team with seven points.

    Haley Skarupa

    The Rockville, MD native has had a great start of the year, in the six games she has played, she has tallied three goals and five assists for eight points on the season.

    Katerina Mrazova

    The Czech first year NWHLer has had a great season. She leads the team in goals and points. She has five goals on the season, and has added two assists for seven points. Two of her goals have come on the power play and one of her goals came while her team was shorthanded.

    Madison Packer

    In the nine games she has skated, she has tallied three goals and one assist for four points on the year. Including a two goal performance in the Riveters home opener in the Prudential Center.

    Hayley Scamurra

    She is having an incredible season for the Beauts, she leads the team in goals, assists and points. She has registered five goals and has added seven assists for twelve points on the year.

    Yesterday’s contests:

     

    Anaheim 6, WASHINGTON 5

    The Washington Capitals gave up a four-goal lead, and would later lose to the Anaheim Ducks by the score of 6-5.

    The Ducks became the first team ever to have a four-goal comeback against a defending Stanley Cup champion with the win.


    Anaheim Ducks G Ryan Miller would register his 374th career win and would tie John Vanbiesbrouck for the most wins by a U.S.-born goaltender.

     

    Nicklas Backstrom of the Capitals would score his 219th career goal, taking sole possession of fourth place in franchise history for goals, surpassing Mike Ridley who had 218 goals with the franchise.

    With Joe Pavelski’s goal, he scored his 12th goal, tied for third-most since November 1st.  His goal helped the San Jose Sharks defeat the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 in Montreal last night.

    Mikko Rantanen registered his 45th point on this season, becoming the ninth different player since the 1993-94 season to have at least 45 points in a teams first 27 games.


    With the shutout win, Semyon Varlamov registered his 24th career-shutout, tied for the fourth-most by a Russian born goaltender.

     

    LOS ANGELES 2, Carolina 0

    Los Angeles Kings G Jonathan Quick recorded 34 saves and his 50th NHL shutout, the most ever from U.S-born goaltenders in NHL history.

    In the NHL European Game of the Week…

     

     

    The Ottawa Senators would defeat the San Jose Sharks 6-2 yesterday afternoon.  This matchup would mark the return of Sharks D Erik Karlsson to Ottawa for the first time since the offseason trade.

     

    Ottawa’s Thomas Chabot recorded his 30th point on the season, making him the third player to get to 30 points for a Senator defenceman in franchise history.

     

     

    Ottawa’s Ben Harpur would score his first NHL career goal in the win for the Senators.

     

    NY ISLANDERS 3, Columbus 2

     

    The New York Islanders would play their first contest in the newly renovated Nassau Coliseum last night of the season.

     

    Columbus Blue Jackets Cam Atkinson would extend his point streak to a career-best 10 contests and is only three games shy of tying the all-time franchise record set by Ryan Johansen in the 2014-15 season.

     

     

    Dallas 2, VANCOUVER 1

     

    Detroit 4, BOSTON 2

    The Detroit Red Wings snapped an eight-game regular-season winless streak against the Boston Bruins as the visitors when they defeated the Boston Bruins 4-2 last night.

     

    MONTREAL 5, NY Rangers 2

    In his return to action, Montreal Canadiens captain Shea Weber would score twice to help lift the Canadiens past the New York Rangers with a 5-2 win.

     

     

    Tampa Bay 5, FLORIDA 4 (OT)

     

    Brayden Point of the Tampa Bay Lightning score the 15th game winner, the most in the NHL since the 2017-18 season.

     

     

    Tampa Bay would go on to win the contest over the Florida Panthers 5-4 in overtime.

     

    Winnipeg 4, NEW JERSEY 3 (OT)

     

    Mark Schiefele would score the fifth regular-season overtime goal, the most in Winnipeg Jets franchise history with the Jets 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils last night.

     

    Philadelphia 4, PITTSBURGH 2

     

    Toronto 5, MINNESOTA 3

     

    The Toronto Maple Leafs would win their 10th road contest out of the 13 played thus far on the season with the 5-3 win over the Minnesota Wild.

    The Nashville Predators would score three goals in the first five minutes of the contest and would go on to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2.

    There were six different players that scored for the Arizona Coyotes when they would go on to rout the St. Louis Blues by the score of 6-1.

     

    EDMONTON 2, Vegas 1

    In the NWHL contest from last night, the Connecticut Whale took on the Boston Pride in the NWHL Twitter Game of the Week.

     

    The Boston Pride would halt the Minnesota Whitecaps win streak at six games with the Pride’s 5-1 win at TRIA Rink last night.

     

    The contest would be scoreless for the first 17 minutes until  Mallory Souliotis scoredher first NWHL goal thanks to an assist from Amanda Pelkey to give the Pride the 1-0 lead.

     

    Jillian Dempsey would make the contest 2-0 before the end of the first period.

     

    Amanda Boulier would score the lone goal for the Whitecaps in the contest in the second period.

     

    The Boston Pride’s Hayley Skarupa would score on the power-play with 35 seconds left in the second period to give the Pride the 3-1 lead.

     

    In the third period Gigi Marvin would score both goals to give the Pride cement the 5-1 lead.

     

    The Minnesota Whitecaps look to take the win from the Boston Pride today at in front of another sold-out crowd at 2 p.m., CT and the game can be seen on NWHL.zone/watch

     

    The Metropolitan Riveters take on the Connecticut Whale today at 3:30pm, ET from the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Pittsburgh.

    Dallas Stars Jason Spezza would collect his 900th career point in the Stars win over the Islanders yesterday.  His 900th point would be an assist on Roope Hintz’s first career NHL goal.

     

    CAROLINA 2, New Jersey 1

    In the Carolina Hurricanes one-goal win over the New Jersey Devils, the Hurricanes would score two goals in the span of eight seconds to seal the win.

    The franchise mark is two goals in six seconds, which was set on March 28, 1987, when the Hartford Whalers did it against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

     

    CHICAGO 3, Minnesota 1

    Colorado 4, ANAHEIM 3 (OT)

    The Colorado Avalanche would get their 1,000th win as a franchise in the overtime frame with the win over the Anaheim Ducks last night.

    Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen also became the eighth player in the franchise history or the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche to have 30 points in 20 games played with the club last night.

    Colorado would score the overtime winner with two seconds left in the overtime frame.

     

    Vegas 6, EDMONTON 3

    The Vegas Golden Knights went on to double up the Edmonton Oilers with a 6-3 win.

    Marc-Andre Fleury would go on to have 29 saves in the win.

    There are nine games on the docket tonight across the NHL.

    Detroit 3, NEW JERSEY 2 (OT)

    The Detroit Red Wings had another comeback in their contest against the New Jersey Devils yesterday afternoon.  The Red Wings came back from a 2-0 deficit to win the contest..

    Tampa Bay 6, PHILADELPHIA 5 (OT)

    Brayden Point had consecutive multi-goal games for the first time in his career and joined three other players in Tampa Bay Lightning history to have such a mark.

    Despite the loss in overtime, the Philadelphia Flyers would score four goals in the span of 6:04 to tie the game against the Lightning.  Philadelphia also became the ninth club to score four goals in the final 10 minutes of the contest to tie a game.

    Buffalo 3, MINNESOTA 2

    The Buffalo Sabres would go on to defeat the Minnesota Wild and with the win, the Sabres now have 26 points in their last 2mi0 contests and the second best 20 game start since the overtime point era started.

    OTTAWA 6, Pittsburgh 4

    Ottawa Senators Mark Stone had a game with two goals on four shots to help lift the Ottawa Senators past the Pittsburgh Steelers with a 6-4 win.

    Matt Duchene would also reach the 500 point mark with a two goal, one assist performance in the win as well.

    NY RANGERS 4, Florida 2

    New York Rangers Filip Chytil became the only teenager in the long-history of the NY Rangers to score in three straight games in the win over the Florida Panthers yesterday.

    Columbus 4, CAROLINA 1

    Columbus Blue Jackets Cam Atkinson registered the fifth career hat trick in Blue Jackets history with the rout of the Carolina Hurricanes last night.

    Montreal 3, VANCOUVER 2

    Elias Pettersson scored to be the third player in Vancouver Canucks history to register 11 goals in 16 games in the Canucks 3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens yesterday.

    Montreal Canadiens Max Domi became the tenth player to have a nine game point scoring streak in their first season with the franchise.

    NASHVILLE 5, Los Angeles 3

    Los Angeles Kings Dion Phaneuf became the seventh player this season to play in his 1,00th NHL game in the Kings 5-3 loss to the Nashville Predators last night.

     

    Boston 2, ARIZONA 1

    Boston Bruins Forward Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson would score his first career goal in the Bruins win over the Arizona Coyotes.

     

    CALGARY 4, Edmonton 2

    Elias Lindholm would score twice to help the Calgary Flames double up the Edmonton Oilers in a 4-2 win.


    SAN JOSE 4, St. Louis 0

    San jose Sharks D Erik Karlsson scored his first goal as a member of the franchise and helped shutout the St. Louis Blues 4-0.

    Joe Pavelski would also score in the contest and this would also be his fourth consecutive game with a goal.

     

    NWHL

     

    The lone NWHL contest of yesterday pitted the Boston Pride against the Buffalo Beauts.

     

    Boston’s Jillian Dempsey and Gigi Marvin would both score twice to give the Pride a big win over the Buffalo Beauts at Warrior Ice Arena last night.

     

    Dempsey scored her goals in the first period and then sealed the win for the Pride with her second goal of the contest with 6:40 left in the third period.

     

    The Boston Pride would play strong defensively in this contest, giving up Buffalo’s lone goal at the 7:40 mark in the second.  Hayley Scamurra would get the goal for Buffalo.

     

    Hayley Scamurra has four goals and four assists on the season.

     

    Pride G Katie Burt registered 25 saves on 26 shots and Beauts G Nicole Hensley would have 22 saves on 26 shot attempts.

     

    With the win, Boston is now in second place in the NWHL standings at 3-1 with the Minnesota Whitecaps at 6-0, who return to NWHL action in two weeks.

     

    The Buffalo Beauts now sit at 2-3-0 in the standings, good for third place.  The Metropolitan Riveters are at 1-5-0 and rounding out the standings is the winless Connecticut Whale at 0-3-0.

     

    The Boston Pride and Buffalo Beauts will face off again at 2:30pm today at Warrior Ice Arena.

    Dallas Stars G Ben Bishop became the fifth player in franchise history to record a shutout over the Boston Bruins.

     

    Buffalo 2, WINNIPEG 1 (SO)

     

    Buffalo Sabres Jeff Skinner scored in the contest, his eighth goal since November 1st, to give the Sabres the shootout win over the Winnipeg Jets last night.

     

    Los Angeles 2, CHICAGO 1 (SO)

     

    Los Angeles G Calvin Petersen registered 34 saves in the contest and would turn aside two shots in the shootout give Petersen his first NHL win in the Kings contest over the Chicago Blackhawks.

     

    Washington 3, COLORADO 2 (OT)

     

    Alex Ovechkin has 681 goals (regular-season and playoffs combined) to tie Dino Ciccarelli for 17th place all-time.

     

    Nicklas Backstrom scored the game-winner just 22 seconds into the overtime to give the Washington Capitals the 3-2 win in Denver last night.

    St. Louis 4, VEGAS 1

     

    St. Louis Blues Ryan O’Reilly has at least one point in 11 out of the last 12 games and leads the Blues with 23 points on the season.  O’Reilly also scored two goals in the contest.

     

    Toronto 2, ANAHEIM 1 (OT)

     

    For the second time in franchise history, the Toronto Maple Leafs ended up sweeping the California road-trip in the Maple Leafs overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks.

    Patrick Marleau scored his 539th career goal, passing Keith Tkachuk for 32nd place on the all-time list.

    There were four contests in action yesterday.

     

    CHICAGO 1, St. Louis 0

    The Chicago Blackhawks went on to shutout the St. Louis Blues 1-0.

    Blackhawks G Corey Crawford turned aside all 28 shots he faced to snap the Blackhawks eight-game losing streak in the win.

    Chicago’s Duncan Keith played in his 1,014th career game, and now has sole possession of fourth place on the Blackhawks all-time list.

     

    WINNIPEG 3, Washington 1

    Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele became the sixth active player to have three consecutive seasons scoring ten goals or more in 17 or fewer games.

    Winnipeg’s Blake Wheeler would also find the scoresheet and extended his point streak to 11 games, matching a career high set back during the end of the 2015-16 season.

    Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen has 29 points on the season in 19 games played.

    Rantanen had a three-point night, registering one goal and two assists in the contest.

     

    Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog also made the score sheet for the Colorado Avalanche in the big win over the Boston Bruins.

    Boston’s David Pastrnak scored his 17th goal on the season and became the 11th player at the age of 22 or younger to register that mark in 18 team games played.

     

    VEGAS 5, Anaheim 0

    Vegas Golden Knights G Marc-Andre Fleury had his 51st career shutout and moved into a four-way tie for 24th on the NHL’s all-time list for shutouts by a goaltender.

    Winnipeg’s Josh Morrissey will have a hearing today for interference/unsportsmanlike conduct in yesterday’s contest between the Jets and the Washington Capitals.
