    Washington Capitals Acquire Andrew Mangiapane in Trade

    As we prepare for the 2024 NHL Draft, the Washington Capitals would acquire forward Andrew Mangiapane from the Calgary Flames.

    A week after the Caps made their first big move of the offseason when they traded goaltender Darcy Kuemper for forward Pierre-Luc Dubois, General Manager Brian MacLellan would continue to make moves as he would trade Colorado’s 2025 second round pick (from the Lars Eller trade) to the Flames for forward Andrew Mangiapane.

    The Player

    Mangiapane made his debut with Calgary during the 2017-18 season where he would play ten games, but would not record any points. Then during the 2018-19 season Mangiapane would play in 44 games for his rookie season and record eight goals and five assists for 13 points. He would then record 32 points in both the shortened 2019-20 (17g, 15a) and 2020-21 (18g, 14a) seasons. In what would be his first full NHL season, Mangiapane would play in all 82 games and record a career high 35 goals and 20 assists for also a career high 55 points.

    Then in the past two seasons, Mangiapane would crack 40 points as he would record 17 goals and 26 assists in 2022-23, and 14 goals and 26 assists in 2023-24. Mangiapane would also be a combined +39 his past three seasons. Overall in 417 games played, Mangiapane has 109 goals and 106 assists for 215 points.

    In the playoffs, Mangiapane has appeared in the playoffs three times with the Flames where he has played in a combined 27 games, and has recorded six goals and six assists for 12 points.

    The Contract

    Mangiapane will be entering the final year of a three year contract that he signed in the summer of 2022. His salary cap hit will be $5.8 million, and as part of the trade, the Flames did not retain any salary, so the Caps will be on the hook for the full amount during the 2024-25 season. Mangiapane’s deal also carries a Modified No Trade Clause where he needs to submit an 8 team no trade list. Mangiapane will be an unrestricted free agent when the 2024-25 season has concluded.

    Overall Thoughts

    Overall, I love this trade. Mangiapane is someone I’ve always liked on the Flames, and is someone who has also brought good fantasy value for those that do Fantasy Hockey. I can see that the change of scenery will be good for Mangiapane, and he is someone that you can plug in the middle six part of the lineup. I also wouldn’t be surprised if he gets some looks on the powerplay and penalty kill as well. I’m very interested to see how Spencer Carbery will utilize him this upcoming season.

    Also, this goes without saying, but I’d probably expect Mangiapane to wear 88 this season, but we’ll see.

    Game Recap:

    Tonight is game two of the Devils four game Canadian road trip as they take on the Calgary Flames. Devils rookie sensation Jack Hughes would get the Devils on the board first as he would break free up the middle of the ice on a pass by Taylor Hall to give his team the early 1-0 lead. Hughes’ goal would be the only scoring in the first period and the Devils would take a 1-0 lead going into the next period.

    Derek Ryan would tie the game at the 3:03 mark on a beautiful individual effort. Ryan split between the Devils defenders down the middle and backhanded the puck behind goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood. A couple moments later, New Jersey would regain the lead back as Nikita Gustav would wrist a shot passed Flames goalie David Rittich. However, that would be the final goal the Devils would score of the rest of the nightοΏΌοΏΌ.

    Calgary the rest of the way would go on to regain the lead and dominate the rest of the game as they got goals fromοΏΌ Sean Monahan, Mikael Backlund, Noah Hanafin, & Johnny Gaudreau. The New Jersey Devils are back at it tomorrow night as they take on the Edmonton Oilers and are hopeful they can redeem themselves to get back in the win column.

    • The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that Patric Hornqvist has been placed on injured reserve. Hornqvist is considered out longer term due to a lower body injury.

     

    • After a scary moment in boston, Ottawa Senators General Manager Pierre Dorion has stated that Scott Sabourin has suffereed a fractured nose and is expected to be released from the hospital.

     

    • Calgary Flames forward Milan Lucic has been suspended for two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety.

    • Lucic was assessed two minors for roughing Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kole Sherwood in Columbus Saturday night. Per the CBA, Lucic will forfeit $64,516.12 in salary.

    In Anaheim the Ducks would host the Chicago Blackhawks, and it would be the Blackhawks striking first as Adam Boqvist would score his first career NHL goal to give them the lead. Then Alex DeBrincat Β would score on the powerplay to give the Blackhawks the 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. Then in the second period the Ducks would cut the deficit back to one as Same Steel would score his first of the season. Then in the third period on the powerplay the Ducks would tie the game at two on a Nick Ritchie tally. However, in overtime Patrick Kane would score the game winner to give the Blackhawks the 3-2 victory.

    Game Recap:

    In Washington the Capitals take on the Calgary Flames for the second and final time of the 2019-20 season, and after celebrating the Washington Nationals and their World Series Championship victory it would be the Flames crashing the party after a poor Dmitry Orlov pass was picked off by Matthew Tkachuk and he would quickly pass it to Andrew Mangiapane who would get it past Ilya Samsonov for the early 1-0 lead. However, the Capitals would respond in kind as Evgeny Kuznetsov would utilize his speed to generate an odd man rush and feed Jakub Vrana for the tap in to tie the game at one. The with less than five minutes left in the first period Dmitry Orlov would rip off an outlet pass to keep it in the zone and Jakub Vrana would let one rip to score his second of the game to give the Capitals their first lead of the game, but right before the buzzer went off to end the period the Flames would strike when Elias Lindhold would deflect a point shot past Samsonov with two seconds left in the period to send the game into the intermission tied 2-2.

     

    In the second period it would be a very back and forth period with not a lot of action, however, with five minutes left in the period Kznetsov would breakout Vrana who would collect his rebound and get it past Cam Talbot to collect his first career hat trick and retake the lead for the Capitals as they took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

     

    In the third period the Capitals would get an early powerplay when Mikael Backlund would be called for tripping and near the end of the powerplay with their secind unit Tom Wilson was able to move the puck across the slot to Lars Eller who would roof it past Talbot to grow the Capitals lead to two. Then both teams would trade powerplay opportunities, but with the Flames on their second opportunity the Capitals would shut them down as they would take the 4-2 victory.

    Tonight, the Washington Capitals will take on the Calgary Flames in their second of three meetings this season. Prior to puck drop, there will be a pregame celebration to congratulate the Washington Nationals to celebrate their very first World Series Championship win in franchise history. On October 22, 2019, the Caps’ beat the Flames 5-3 on the road, with two goals coming from defenseman John Carlson. Since that game, Carlson has tallied two more goals, and one assist. Less ideally, the Flames have lost two, and won two, with both wins coming in overtime or the shootout.

    On Friday night, the Capitals kicked off the month by dominantly defeating the Buffalo Sabres, 6-1. For the Sabres, this match was a litmus test of sorts, to see just how good they are to start the season. Buffalo, sitting in third place heading into Friday’s match, with the second best power play overall, had started off the 2019-20 season similarly to last season. However, it took less than 10 minutes for Buffalo to realize they definitely have some work to do. Four goals were scored in just four minutes, two of which came off the stick of Jakub Vrana. Chandler Stephenson’s second goal of the season came 42 seconds after Vrana’s 5th, and his 6th came two and a half minutes after that. #13 Jakub Vrana’s first goal, assisted by #43 Tom Wilson came with 13:43 remaining in the period. Brendan Leipsic’s speed and impressive puck-handling finally paid off, as he scored his first goal of the season one minute and fifteen seconds after Vrana’s second. Buffalo received one power play during the first period, but the Capitals’ improved penalty kill kept them off the board. Both the Capitals’ penalty kill and power play are 5th overall, as they have killed off 85.7% of penalties taken, and are operating at 25% efficiency on the power play. Washingtons’ special teams are much improved over last seasons’ numbers (TheScore, Washington). Henri Jokiharju scored his first, and ultimately the only goal for Buffalo, just over halfway through the game, but six minutes later, Tom Wilson scored his 5th goal, re-establishing the Caps’ 4-goal lead. TJ Oshie, at the 13:43 mark, scored his 8th of the season, all but guaranteeing the Capitals’ 10th win of the season. Braden Holtby tallied his 5th win in 6 starts, stopping 29 of 30 shots faced, allowing the fewest number of goals in all 11 starts. Holtby ended the night with a .967 SV%, but backup Ilya Samsonov, who has only one loss in 5 starts, it expected to start versus the Calgary Flames (TheScore, Buffalo Sabres).

    The Calgary Flames played last night, as they shutout the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-0. Goals in each period gave the Flames their 8th, and second consecutive, win of the season. Sean Monahan scored just under four minutes into the first period, a goal that would be the eventual game winning goal. Calgary did have two power play opportunities, but they were unable to convert on either. Sam Bennett added to the Flames 1-0 lead in the second, and Matthew Tkachuk scored his 7th goal of the season, an empty net goal, completing the shutout for Calgary. Elias Lindholm, who leads his team in goals, registered two assists last night, and has goals in the last three games of October, versus Winnipeg, Carolina, and Nashville (NHL.com). He also scored against the Capitals back on October 22nd. Columbus peppered Rittich with 43 shots on goal, but the veteran goaltender stopped every single one. Despite that perfect showing by Rittich, Cam Talbot is expected to start tonight, the second night in a back-to-back for the Flames.

    Nic Dowd (DTD, lower body) and Richard Panik (LTIR, upper body) skated prior to Caps’ official practice yesterday, which seems to be a step in the right direction. The Calgary Flames are still without Austin Czarnik (DL, lower body) and Juuso Valimaki (IR-NR, knee).

    Coverage of the game begins at 6:00pm with Caps Faceoff Live, followed by Caps Pregame Live at 6:30pm, all on NBCSN/NBCSWA, with puck drop shortly after 7:00pm.

    The Pittsburgh Penguins would play host to the Edmonton Oilers as they looked for their ninth win of the season, but it would be the Oilers striking first in the second period when Colby Cave scored his first of the season. Then in the third period Brian Dumoulin would score while shorthanded to tie the game and send it to overtime. However, it would be the Oilers taking this one on a Leon Draisaitl goal to defeat the Penguins 2-1.

     

    New York Rangers v. Nashville Predators – 2p EST Start Time

    In Nashville, mere hours after unveiling their 2020 Winter Classic jersey, the Predators host the New York Rangers for an afternoon matinee. In the first period the Rangers would strike on a Filip Chytil marker to take the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period Ryan Strome would grow the Rangers lead to two, but before the second was over Viktor Arvidsson would cut the Rangers lead back to one. However, it would not be enough as the Rangers would hold on to win 2-1.

     

    Ottawa Senators v. Boston Bruins – 7p EST Start Time

    In Boston the Ottawa Senators come to town looking to take down the Bruins, but after going back and forth with the Bruins the first two periods, the Bruins would get a three goal third period to secure the victory. The Senators would get their goals from Anthony Duclair and Connor Brown, while the Bruins got goals from David Pastrnak (PPG), Patrice Bergeron, Danton Heinen, Brad Marchand (PPG), and Jake DeBrusk to secure a 5-2 win.

     

    New York Islanders v. Buffalo Sabres – 7p EST Start Time

    In Buffalo the Sabres would look to down their interstate rival New York Islanders, but Derick Brassard would score early in the first period to give the Islanders the 1-0 victory.

    The Florida Panthers would clip the Detroit Red Wings with four unanswered goals as Brett Connolly, Aleksander Barkov, and Jonathan Huberdeau (2 goals) would score for the Panthers for a 4-0 victory.

    The Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers would play a barn burner that would see both teams play to an eleven round shootout. The Maple Leafs would get goals from Kasperi Kapanen, Jason Spezza (First as a Leaf), and Mitch Marner, while the Flyers would get goals from Ivan Provorov (PPG), Claude Giroux (PPG), and Travis Sanheim. In the eleventh round of the shootout it would be Andreas Johnsson scoring the game winner for the Leafs as they take the 4-3 victory.

In the first two periods the two teams would trade three goals each with the Devils getting goals from Miles Wood, Jack Hughes, and Nico Hischier, while the Hurricanes got their goals from Warren Foegele, Teuvo Teravainen, and Erik Haula. However, in the third period the Devils would get goals from PK Subban and Damon Severson to secure a 5-3 victory.

    In Columbus the Calgary Flames looked to burn down the Blue Jackets, and burn them they would as the Flames would score a goal per period and David Rittich would post a shutout for their victory. The Flames would get their goals from Sean Monahan, Sam Bennett, and Matthew Tkachuk to secure the 3-0 lead.

     

    Montreal Canadiens v. Dallas Stars – 7p EST Start Time

    In Dallas the Stars would dominate the Montreal Canadiens as they would get goals from Alexander Radulov (PPG), Denis Gurianov (even strength and PPG), and Miro Heiskanen. The Canadiens would get a late goal from Artturi Lehkonen, but it would be too little, too late as the Stars would defeat the Canadiens 4-1.

    In Minnesota the Wild would look for their fifth win of the season, but it would be the St. Louis Blues forcing overtime to take the victory from the Wild. The Wild would get goals from Marcus Foligno, Kevin Fiala, and Mats Zuccarello (PPG), while the Blues would get goals from Mackenzie MacEachern, Carl Gunnarsson, and Sammy Blais during regulation. Then in overtime Ryan O’Reilly would score the gmae winner to give the Blues the 4-3 win.

    In Arizona the Coyotes would don their Kachinas once again as they took on the Colorado Avalnache, and it would be a howling time for the Coyotes as Darcy Kuemper would backstop his why to a shutout victory. The Coyotes would get goals from Christian Dvorak (PPG), Phil Kessel, and Conor Garland to secure the 3-0 victory.

     

    Winnipeg Jets v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p EST Start Time

    In Vegas the Golden Knights would take on the Winnipeg Jets in a game that would require extra time. The Jets would get two goals from Mathieu Perreault (even strength and PPG), and a goal from Mark Scheifele, while the Knights got goals from Jonathan Marchessault (PPG), Max Pacioretty, and Nate Schmidt in regulation. Then in overtime Kyle Connor would score to secure the 4-3 victory for the Jets.

     

    Vancouver Canucks v. San Jose Sharks – 10p EST Start Time

    In San Jose the Vancouver Canucks would tame the Sharks. In the latter half of the third period the Sharks would get goals from Marc-Edouard Vlasic (SHG) and Evander Kane, but the Canucks would get two goals from Elias Pettersson (even strength and PPG), and goals from Brandon Sutter, Jake Virtanen, and Adam Gaudette to secure the 5-2 victory for the Canucks.

    In Los Angeles the Kings and Chicago Blackhawks would renew their rivalry, and it would not disappoint as this game would require overtime.     • The Nashville Predators announced that they have signed forward Austin Watson to a three year extension worth $4.5 million.

    In Nashville the Predators would face the Calgary Flames and in the first period it would see the Predators out shoot the Flames 15 to 4, but the Predators would take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission with goals from Nick Bonino and Austin Watson. the Flames lone goal would be from Derek Ryan. Then in the second period the Predators would strike again, but this time while shorthanded as Calle Jarnkrok would score to regain the two goal lead for the Predators. Before the end of the second period Jarnkrok would strike again while shorthanded to take the 4-1 lead into the second intermission. Then in the third period Austin Watson would score his second of the game, but it would be all Flames as they would get goals from Rasmus Andersson, Elias Lindholm, Alan Quine, and Matthew Tkachuk to force overtime. Then in overtime Tkachuk would score his second of the game to complete the comeback victory for the Flames as they would win 6-5.

     

    Montreal Canadiens v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p EST Start Time

    In Vegas the Montreal Canadiens look to slow down the Golden Knights, but despite an early Phillip Danault tally, it would be the Knights taking the lead into the first intermission with goals from William Karlsson and Alex Tuch. Then in the second period the Canadiens would tie the game with a Jonathan Drouin tally, but in the third period both Cody Glass and Mark Stone would score to give the Knights the lead again. Tomas Tatar would score for the Canadiens, then Brendan Gallagher woud score to tie the game at four and to send the game to overtime. Then in overtime Max Domi would score 26 seconds into overtime to take the 5-4 victory for the Canadiens.

    • The Colorado Avalanche have announced that forward Gabriel Landeskog will be out indefinitely with a lower body injury. No timeline or details in regards to the injury has been given at this time. Kassie’s Report

     

    • The Nashville Predators have announced that they have re-signed defenseman Roman Josi to an eight year contract worth $72.47 million.

    San Jose Sharks v. Boston Bruins – 7p EST Start Time

    In Boston the Bruins would dominate the San Jose Sharks as they would get goals from David Pastrnak (PPG), David Krejci (PPG), Charlie Coyle, Chris Wagner, and Brandon Carlo to take a 5-1 victory over the Sharks. The Sharks lone goal would come from Brent Burns on the powerplay.

     

    Washington Capitals v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7p EST Start Time

    The Washington Capitals end their five game road trip with two goal games from Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs in overtime. TXHT Recap

     

    Tampa Bay Lightning v. New York Rangers – 7p EST Start Time

    In Madison Square Garden we would see the the New York Rangers score four unanswered goals to defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning. After the Lightning got the 1-0 lead from a Nikita Kucherov goal, the Rangers would get goals from Kaapo Kakko (PPG), Filip Chytil, Adam Fox, and Ryan Strome to secure the 4-1 victory.

     

    Philadelphia Flyers v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

    In Pittsburgh the Penguins would dominate the Philadelphia Flyers right from the start as they would get goals from Justin Schultz, Jared McCann, Dominik Simon, Sydney Crosby, Jake Guentzel, Zach Aston-Reese, and Dominik Kahun to win 7-1 in commanding fashion.

     

    Calgary Flames v. Carolina Hurricanes – 7p EST Start Time

    Coming off of their overtime loss in the Heritage Classic the Calgary flames look to bounce back in Carolina as they take on the Hurricanes. However, after taking the 1-0 lead on an Elias Lindholm tally, the Hurricanes would take over as Andrei Svechnikov would score back to back goals to take the 2-1 victory.

     

    Edmonton Oilers v. Detroit Red Wings – 730p EST Start Time

    The Detroit Red Wings would play host to the Edmonton Oilers, and would get two quick goals in the first period from Dylan Larkin (PPG) and Patrik Nemeth to take the 2-0 lead. Then in the third period Leon Draisaitl would score for the Oilers, but Filip Hronek would score to seal the deal for the Red Wings in their 3-1 victory.

     

    Chicago Blackhawks v. Nashville Predators – 8p EST Start Time

    Hours after re-signing their captain to an eight year contract, the Nashville Predators would shutout the Chicago Blackhawks as Nick Bonino would score all three goals for the Predators.

     

    Minnesota Wild v. Dallas Stars – 830p EST Start Time

    In Dallas the Minnesota Wild would take a three goal lead late into the the second period Β after getting goals from Jason Zucker, Eric Staal (PPG), and Ryan Suter (PPG), but they would give up six unanswered to Stars who would get goals from Alexander Radulov (hat trick), Roope Hintz (PPG), Joe Pavelski, and Tyler Seguin to take the 6-3 victory.

     

    Winnipeg Jets v. Anaheim Ducks – 10p EST Start Time

    In a wild west shootout the Anaheim Ducks would outlast the Winnipeg Jets thanks to a four goal second period. The Jets would get goals from Nikolaj Ehlers (2), Blake Wheeler, and Bryan Little, but the Ducks would get goals from Cam Fowler, Ryan Getzlaf, Adam Henrique, Troy Terry, Derek Grant, and a pair from Carter Rowney to claim the 7-4 victory.

    Game Recaps:

    Chicago Blackhawks v. Carolina Hurricanes – 1p EST Start Time

    The Blackhawks came into the night hoping to surprise the Hurricanes at home. But ended up running into a brick wall in Petr Mrazek, who would make 32 saves to shutout the lowly Chicago Blackhawks. Carolina would open the scoring in the first period off the stick of Andrei Svechnikov, who would score his first of two on the night. The Hurricanes would strike again in the second stretching the lead to 2-0. Canes would add two more in the third to secure 4-0 the shutout victory at home.

     

    St. Louis Blues v. Boston Bruins – 7p EST Start Time

    The Blue came into Boston looking to keep up their winning ways and shut down the Bruins in their own arena. The Bruins would open the scoring courtesy of the red hot David Pastrnak. The play would remain fairly even for the rest of the period. But the Bruins would strike again in the second period off the stick of Anders Bjork. The Bruins would control the play for the rest of the period and would add an empty netter in the third to seal the win and the 3-0 shutout for the Bruins.

     

    Toronto Maple Leafs v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p EST Start Time

    The Leafs coming into the second half of a back to back, look to take it to their division rival. Montreal would open the scoring with two quick strikes off the sticks of Brendan Gallagher and Jonathan Drouin to give the Habs a 2-0 lead. Muzzin would score for the Leafs late in the first to give hope in an otherwise terrible first period. The second period would see the Leafs tie the game courtesy of Andreas Johnsson. Then the floodgates would open as Montreal would score 3 unanswered goals to give the HabsΒ 5-2 win. Terrible defensive miscues and terrible zone coverage would ultimately be the demise of the Leafs.

     

    Nashville Predators v. Tampa Bay Lightning – 7p EST Start Time

    The Preds looking come into the game looking to steal one from one of the east’s best teams. Nashville would open the score in the first off the stick of Calle Jarnkrok to give the Preds a 1-0 lead after one period. Stamkos and Johnson would strike back in the second period to take the lead for the Lightning 2-1. But Nashville Captain Roman Josi would score to tie the game and take it to overtime. In overtime Nashville defenceman Ryan Ellis would score to give the Preds 3-2.

     

    Columbus Blue Jackets v. Philadelphia Flyers – 7p EST Start Time

    Columbus is looking to grab some momentum as they take on the Flyers. Columbus Boone Jenner and Jakub Voracek of the Flyers would exchange goals in the first period.Β  Jenner would score in the second period as the Blue Jackets would add two more and James Van Riemsdyk would add one to cut the lead to 3-2 for Columbus. The Flyers would come out surging as Shayne Gostisbehere would score one of 5 goals in the third period for the Flyers, as the Blue Jackets would add just one of their own. The Flyers would walk away with a 7-4 win.

     

    Pittsburgh Penguins v. Dallas Stars – 8p EST Start Time

    Pittsburgh comes into Dallas looking to keep the Stars down. The first two periods would see Matt Murray put on a clinic, making 22 saves and allowing no goals. But Pittsburgh would come out flying in the third scoring three unanswered goals to win the game 3-0 and record a shutout win for Matt Murray.

     

    Los Angeles Kings v. Minnesota Wild – 8p EST Start Time

    The Kings come into Minnesota hoping to pick up some points against the Wild. The Wild would open the score courtesy of Gerald Mayhew’s second of the season. The scoreboard would stay quiet until the second period where the Kings and Wild would exchange goals from Ben Hutton and Eric Staal respectively to bring the Wild’s lead to 2-1 after two periods. The third period would see the Wild score three unanswered goals to really take the pounding to the Kings 5-1.

     

    Anaheim Ducks v. Colorado Avalanche – 9p EST Start Time

    The Ducks sport new defencemen in Colorado as they hope to overcome some injuries to beat the surging Avalanche. The first period would see a pair of goals from the Ducks courtesy of Adam Henrique and Carter Rowney to give the Ducks a 2-1 lead after one period. Ryan Getzlaf and Joonas Donskoi would exchange goals in the second to bring the score to 3-1 Ducks. The third period would see a powerplay goal from Nathan MacKinnon to bring the led to 3-2 Ducks. But the Ducks would respond in the third with two of their own to take the win 5-2.

    2019 Heritage Classic LogoCalgary Flames v. Winnipeg Jets – 10p EST Start Time

    The Heritage Classic was a match for the making. You could visibly see all the snow on the ice, but the players seemed to visibly enjoy the game. Jets and Flames players raving about the ice and the conditions. The first period would come and go with no score, but not short of chances at both ends. The second period would see the Flames take a 1-0 lead on a powerplay goal from Elias Lindholm, the rest of the period would see no scoring. The third period would bring drama, the Jets would tie the game thanks to a late goal by Josh Morrissey. This would send the game to overtime in Regina. Where Bryan Little would score to win the game and the Heritage Classic 2-1.

    Game Recaps:

    San Jose Sharks v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p EST Start Time

    Montreal looked to pick up a big win against the struggling Sharks, and in the first period, they would open the scoring courtesy of Nick Cousins 1st of the year. Evander Kane would kick start the offence for the Sharks by scoring with 0.55 seconds left in the first period on the power-play and then adding another five minutes into the second period once again on the power-play to give the Sharks a 2-1 advantage, in what would become a 4 goal second for the Sharks. The Canadiens would add one late in the second but it would be enough to make any sort of comeback, as the Canadiens would fall 4-2 to the Sharks.

     

    Arizona Coyotes v. New York Islanders – 7p EST Start Time

    The Islanders would open the scoring against the Coyotes early in the first with Derrick Brassard scoring just over a minute into the game. Michael Grabner would answer back midway through the period and the scoring would stay 1-1 until Josh Bailey would bury his 4th of the season just over fourteen minutes into the second. Anders Lee and Conor Garland would exchange goals in the third until Scott Mayfield would put the icing on the cake with an empty netter. Islanders would walk away from this game with a 4-2 win.

     

    Buffalo Sabres v. New York Rangers – 7p EST Start Time

    Rangers were hoping to steal a game from the red hot Sabres and would strike third times in the first period, all within an 8 minutes window to jump out to 3-0 lead. The second period would see the Sabres strike twice with a Tony DeAngelo goal sandwiched in the middle to make it a 4-2 game after two periods. There would continue to be no stop from the Rangers tonight as they would add two more goals in the third period to make the final 6-2 Rangers.

     

    Carolina Hurricanes v. Columbus Blue Jackets – 7p EST Start Time

    The Blue Jackets and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo came in with something to prove tonight against the Canes. Jackets would open the scoring with a goal from Alexander Texier just over three minutes into the game. The Canes would respond just over a minute later off the stick of Dougie Hamilton to tie the game at 1-1. The Canes would score two more goals in the first to stretch the lead to 3-1. The second period was a different story as goals by Ryan Murray and Sonny Milano would bring the Blue Jackets right back into this game at 2-2. The third would see no goals but many chances and the game would head to overtime where the Blue Jackets Speedster Cam Atkinson would put in the overtime winner. Blue Jackets would walk away with a 4-3 victory in overtime.

     

    Los Angeles Kings v. St. Louis Blues – 8p EST Start Time

    The Stanley Cup Champion St.Louis Blues were set to face off against the struggling LA Kings in St. Louis. Kings would open the scoring first thanks to Jeff Carter just before the 15-minute mark of the 1st. Vince Dunn would tie the game just over 3 minutes later on the powerplay, this would be the first of 3 powerplay goals in the game for the Blues. Just 3 minutes into the second Alex Iaffalo would score giving the Kings the 2-1 lead. The Blues would score twice in 1:40 courtesy of Alex Pietrangelo on the Powerplay and Robert Thomas, this would give the Blues their first lead of the night at 3-2. The Blues would add two more goals off the stick of Brayden Schenn in the third period, to run over the Kings 5-2.

     

    Minnesota Wild v. Nashville Predators – 8p EST Start Time

    The Wild looked to steal a win from Pekka Rinne and the Predators on Thursday night but seemingly ran into a brick wall. The first period would open with the Wild furiously peppering Pekka Rinne with 13 shots, yet they couldn’t solve the netminder. The first period would end with the score 0-0, and that’s where the Preds would take over. Preds would score 37 seconds into the 2nd period and then add another with less than 30 seconds left in the period, to make 2-0 after two periods. The third period would come and it would see the Preds score twice again to make it 4-0. Pekka Rinne would put ina 26 save effort for the shutout.

     

    Philadelphia Flyers v. Chicago Blackhawks – 830p EST Start Time

    Flyer looking to gain some momentum against the lowly Blackhawks in Chicago. The game would open with the Flyer grabbing ahold of the game and never looking back. Flyers Oskar Lindblom would score the only goal in the first period, as the Flyers would take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. Claude Giroux would be the only goal scorer in the second period just 59 seconds in, to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead. The first two periods would leave the Blackhawks with just 8 shots combined, while the Flyer had a 2 goal lead and 18 shots. The third period would bring about a more aggressive Blackhawks team as Brandon Saad would score a minute in. The third would see Chicago fire 16 shots at Brian Elliot but were only able to be him once. The Flyers would go on to score 2 more in the 3rd period and win 4-1.

     

    Anaheim Ducks v. Dallas Stars – 830p EST Start Time

    The Ducks and Stars were ready for a goalies duel, with two of the leagues best goalies squaring off in Ben Bishop and John Gibson. Dallas Stars rookie Denis Guraniov would score two goals in the first period to give the Stars a 2-0 lead heading into the 2nd period. Ducks Max Comtois would score on the powerplay just over 4 minutes into the 2nd period to cut the lead in half. But that’s all the score that would come in this game as both goalies shut the door and never let another puck past them. Stars would squeak past the Ducks 2-1.

     

    Florida Panthers v. Calgary Flames – 9p EST Start Time

    Flames looked to put themselves back on track at home, while the Panthers looked to keep their winning ways going. This game was not meant for the goaltenders at all. Calgary would open the score in the first with an Austin Czarnik goal on the powerplay and then the floodgates would open. The Second would see the Panthers score twice off the sticks of Huberdeau and Weegar, while the Flames would score in the middle of the two Panther goals courtesy of Matthew Tkachuk. 2-2 would be the score at the end of the second period. Flames Matthew Tkachuk and Captain Mark Giordano would both score respectively to open the 3rd period. The Panthers would storm back being down 4-2, scoring three of there own off the sticks of Josh Brown, Evgenii Dadonov, and Mark Pysyk to give the Panthers a 5-4 lead with five minutes remaining. Sam Bennett would send this game to overtime with his 2nd of the season with just under three minutes remaining in the game. Overtime would solve nothing but the shootout would see the Panthers miss both their shots while the Flames would score on theirs. Flames put out a spotty win against the Panthers 6-5

     

    Washington Capitals v. Edmonton Oilers – 9p EST Start Time

    Oilers looking to start red hot, while the Caps look to find some consistency in holding leads. Darnell Nurse would open the scoring 13 minutes into the first to give the Oilers the 1-0 lead. But the Caps would not lay down and take a loss. The Caps came out flying in the second period scoring 3 goals, including 2 from Captain Alex Ovechkin. This would put the Caps on top 3-1 heading into the 3rd period. The 3rd period would be the Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl show and another defensive third-period meltdown for the Caps. Both McDavid and Draisaitl would score to tie the game up and send it to overtime. Just 1:18 into the 3rd period Leon Draisaitl would take the feed from Connor McDavid and bury it. Oilers would walk out with a 4-3 Overtime victory over the Caps.
