    News:

    • The Washington Capitals placed forward Richard Panik on Long Term Injury due to an upper body injury, and also announced Jonas Siegenthaler as a game time decision for the night’s game against the New York Rangers.
    • The Capitals also recalled forward Travis Boyd and defenseman Martin Fehervary from Hershey of the AHL.

     

    • The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Detroit Red Wings forward Darren Helm has been fined $5000, the maximum under the CBA, for slashing Calgary Flames forward Elias Lindholm in Calgary on Thursday, October 17th.

     

     

    Game Recaps:

    Colorado Avalanche v. Florida Panthers – 7p EST Start Time

    In Florida the Panthers host the red hot Colorado Avalanche, but it would be the Panthers striking for three goals in the first period as Jonathan Huberdeau would strike for two goals, and Frank Vatrano would score while shorthanded. However, the Avalanche would get a goal from Joonas Donskoi in the first period as the Panthers went into the first intermission with the 3-1 lead. Then in the second period the Avalanche would get two goals from Andre Burakovsky and a goal from Matt Nieto, while the Panthers would get a goal from Brett Connolly as the game would be tied going into the second intermission. After a scoreless third period they would require overtime which would see Nathan MacKinnon score in overtime to secure the 5- victory.

     

    Dallas Stars v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

    In Pittsburgh the Penguins would host the struggling Dallas Stars and after a scoreless first period both teams would trade goals as Roope Hintz would score to give the Stars the 1-0 lead, but Jared McCann would tie the game for the Penguins heading into the second intermission. Then in the third period the Penguins would get two goals from Kris Letang and a goal from Patric Hornqvist, while the Stars would get a goal from John Klingberg, but it would not be enough as the Penguins would defeat the Stars 4-2.

     

    New York Rangers v. Washington Capitals – 7p EST Start Time

    Columbus Blue Jackets v. Chicago Blackhawks – 830p EST Start Time

    In Chicago the Blackhawks would take on the Columbus Blue Jackets, and in the first period the Blackhawks would strike for the 1-0 lead as Drake Caggiula would get on the board late int he first period. Then in the second Pierre-Luc Dubois would score for the Blue Jackets to tie the game at one, but in the third period the Blue Jackets would get another goal from Markus Nutivaara to take the 2-1 lead, but Alex DeBrincat would score to tie the game and send it to overtime. In overtime it would be Jonathan Toews would deflect the puck past Elvis Merzlikins to give the Blackhawks the 3-2 victory.

     

    Detroit Red Wings v. Edmonton Oilers – 9p EST Start Time

    In Edmonton the Oilers would take on the Detroit Red Wings, and it would be an all seond period affair as both James Neal and Ethan Bear would score for the Oilers, but Mike Green would score for the Red Wings. However, that would all that would be needed for the Oilers to take the 2-1 lead.

     

    Carolina Hurricanes v. Anaheim Ducks – 10p EST Start Time

    In Anaheim the Ducks take on the Carolina Hurricanes, and in the first period the Ducks would get goals from Adam Henrique and Troy Terry to give the Ducks the 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Then in the second period both teams would trade goals as the Hurricanes would get goals from Erik Haula (PPG) and Hayden Fleury, while the Ducks would respond with goals from Jakob Silfverberg and Carter Rowney (SHG) to secure the 4-2 victory.

    NHL News:

    • The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Anaheim Ducks forward Nick Ritchie has been fined $4,121.86, the maximum allowed under the CBA, for roughing Buffalo Sabres forward Vladimir Sobotka on Wednesday, October 16th.

     

    • The NHL announced that Vegas Golden Knights forward Valentin Zykov has been suspended for 20 games, without pay, for violating the terms of the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program.

     

    • The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that forward John Tavares will miss a minimum of two weeks due to a broken finger. Tavares will be reassessed in two weeks by the Leaf’s medical staff.

     

    NWHL News:

    • The Connecticut Whale has announced that they have signed forward Haley Payne.

    • Payne was a member of Sacred Heart University, and she scored 32 goals and 27 assists for 59 points in 117 games with the Pioneers. Payne is expected to join the Whale this weekend when they make their trip to Buffalo to take on the Beauts.

     

    • The NWHL announced that ROCKET SPORT, the maker of the Rocket Dryer, has become an official sponsor of the NWHL.

    Tampa Bay Lightning v. Boston Bruins – 7p EST Start Time

    In Boston the Bruins would do their best to take down their division rival Tampa Bay Lightning. In the first period both teams would trade goals as David Pastrnak would score on the powerplay to get the Bruins on the board first, but with one second left in the period Brayden Point would score to tie the game at one. Then in the second period the Lightning and Bruins would trade goals again as Patrice Bergeron would score on the powerplay for the Bruins, while Mathieu Joseph would score for the Lightning. In the third period Kevin Shattenkirk would score for the Lightning, but Pasternak would strike again on the powerplay to sednd the game to overtime time tied at three. After a scoreless overtime period the Lightning would win the game in the shootout as Steven Stamkos would score the lone goal in the fourth round to give the Lightning the 4-3 victory.

     

    Minnesota Wild v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p EST Start Time

    In Montreal the Canadiens would continue the Minnesota Wild’s woes as the Canadiens would shutout the Wild 4-0. Both Victor Mete and Nick Suzuki would score their first career NHL goals, while the Canadiens would also get goals from Joel Armia and Brendan Gallagher to secure the victory.

    Vancouver Canucks v. St. Louis Blues – 8p EST Start Time

    In St. Louis we see another game go to the shootout as the Blues and Vancouver Canucks would do battle. In the first period the Blues would get a goal from Robby Fabbri, but in the second period both teams would trade goals as the Blues would get goals from Alex Pietrangelo and Vladimir Tarasenko, while the Canucks got goals from Micheal Ferland and JT Miller. Then in the third period Bo Horvat would score to tie the game at three, and after a scoreless overtime period we would get a six round shootout that would see Josh Leivo score the lone goal to give the Canucks the 4-3 victory.

     

    New York Islanders v. Winnipeg Jets – 8p EST Start Time

    In Winnipeg the New York Islanders come to town to ground the Jets as they would respond to the Jets first period marker with three unanswered goals to take the 3-1 victory. The Jets lone strike would come from Nikolaj Ehlers, but the Islanders would get back to back second period goals from Matthew Barzal (PPG and even strength). Then in the third period Josh Bailey would seal the deal for the Islanders.

     

    Detroit Red Wings v. Calgary Flames – 9p EST Start Time

    In Calgary the Flames would light up the Detroit Red Wings in a high scoring affair for the Flames. While the Red Wings would get a goal from Darren Helm, the Flames would get goals from Andrew Mangispane, Elia Lindholm (PPG), Same Bennett, Derek Ryan, and Mark Giordano (PPG) to secure the 5-1 victory.

     

    Nashville Predators v. Arizona Coyotes – 10p EST Start Time

    In Arizona the Coyotes will look to tame the Nashville Predators, and in the first period the Coyotes would get goals from Christian Dvorak and Phil Kessel (first as a Coyote, PPG) to give them a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Then in the second period Dante Fabbro would score for the Predators, but the Coyotes would strike back with a Jakob Chychrun powerplay tally. In the third period Kessel would strike again while on the powerplay to grow the Coyotes lead to three, but the Predators would respond with a Nick Bonino goal. However, the Coyotes would get an insurance goal as the Coyotes would win 5-2.

     

    Ottawa Senators v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p EST Start Time

    In Vegas the Golden Knights host the Ottawa Senators, and in the first period the Knights would put two on the board as they would get goals from Reilly Smith and Nick Holden (PPG), but the Senators would get a goal from Thomas Chabot to cut the Knights lead to 2-1. Then in the third period Jean-Gabriel Pageau would score for the Senators to tie the game at two. After going through a scoreless overtime the shootout would be required, and it would be a goal by Jonathan Marchessault in the fifth round to secure the 3-2 victory for the Golden Knights.

     

    Buffalo Sabres v. Los Angeles Kings – 1030p EST Start Time

    The Buffalo Sabres continue their California trip with a visit to the Los Angeles Kings. The Sabres would score two in the first period as Casey Mittlestadt and Conor Sheary would both score. Then in the second period Mittlestadt would score his second of the game while on the powerplay to give the Sabres the 3-0 lead heading into the second intermission. Then the Sabres would shut things down as they would keep the Kings off the scoreboard and shut out the Kings 3-0.

    Minnesota Wild v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7p EST Start Time

    In Toronto the Minnesota Wild come to town looking to pick up their second win of the season while the host Maple Leafs look to continue to gain ground in the Atlantic Division. And gain ground they would. After giving up a goal to Luke Kunin in the first period, the Maple Leafs exploded for a four goal second period as they would get goals from John Tavares, Mitch Marner, Andreas Johnsson (PPG), and Auston Matthews to take a 4-1 lead into the second intermission. The Wild would strike again in the third with a Gerald Mayhew goal, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Maple Leafs would hand the Wild their fifth loss in six games with the 4-2 victory.

     

    Tampa Bay Lightning v. Montreal Canadiens – 7p EST Start Time

    In Montreal the Tampa Bay Lightning came to town and struck down the Canadiens. In the first period the Canadiens would get a powerplay goal from Jeff Petry, but the Lightning would respond with three unanswered goals starting with Brayden Coburn scoring with seven seconds left in the first period to tie the game at one. Then in the second period Steven Stamkos would score on the powerplay, and then Tyler Johnson would score less than a minute later to seal the 3-1 victory for the Lightning.

     

    Arizona Coyotes v. Winnipeg Jets – 8p EST Start Time

    In Winnipeg the Arizona Coyotes come to town looking for their second victory of the season as they look to take down the Jets. In the first period both teams would trade goals when the Jets would strike first with a Mark Scheifele powerplay goal, but the Coyotes would respond with a Conor Garland goal to tie the game. Then in the second period the Coyotes would get goals from Christian Dvorak (PPG and even strength) and Nick Schmaltz (PPG) to grow their lead to 4-1. then in the third period Kyle Connor would score on the powerplay for the Jets, but the Coyotes would hold on to win 4-2.

     

    Philadelphia Flyers v. Calgary Flames – 9p EST Start Time

    In Calgary the Flames take on the visiting Philadelphia Flyers who are looking to remain undefeated in regulation. However, it would be the Flames taking a 2-0 lead into the second intermission after getting goals from Michael Frolik (first period) and Andrew Mangiapane (second period). In the third period Matt Niskanen would score his first as a Flyer to cut the deficit to one, but it would not be enough as the Flames score one more into the empty net as Elias Lindholm would secure a 3-1 victory.

     

    Detroit Red Wings v. Vancouver Canucks – 10p EST Start Time

    The Detroit Red Wings come to town as they take on the Vancouver Canucks, and the Red Wings would strike 30 seconds into the game as Dylan Larkin would get on the board to make it 1-0. But it would be the Canucks taking over as they would score four unanswered as Troy Stetcher would score late in the first period, then Alexander Edler (PPG), Elias Pettersson, and JT Miller (PPG) would all score in the second period to give the Canucks the 4-1 lead going into the second intermission. In the third period Miller would score his second of the game to grow the Canucks lead to four as the Canucks would go on to win 5-1.

     

    Nashville Predators v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p EST Start Time

    In Vegas the Golden Knights would host the Nashville Predators, and it would be the Predators striking first as Kyle Turris would get on the board first, but the Knights would responded with two of their own from Mark Stone (PPG) and Reilly Smith to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Then in the second period the Predators would respond with three straight goals as Colton Sissons, Calle Jarnkrok, and Filip Forsberg would make it 4-2 going into the second intermission. But the Predators would not be done there as the third period started they would take advantage of a powerplay with Nick Bonino scoring to make it 5-2 to secure the victory.

     

    Carolina Hurricanes v. Los Angeles Kings – 1030p EST Start Time

    In Los Angeles the Carolina Hurricanes look to get back to their winning ways when they take on the Kings, and after a scoreless first period the Hurricanes would strike in the second period with a Martin Necas tally to give the Hurricanes the 1-0 lead going into the second intermission. In the third period the Hurricanes would hold off the Kings and go on to win 2-0 after a Teuvo Teravainen empty netter to seal the deal.

    Edmonton Oilers v. New York Rangers – 1p EST Start Time

    In New York it’s a battle of two undefeated teams as the Rangers host the Edmonton Oilers. After a very low key first period it would be Kaapo Kakko scoring his first career NHL goal to give the Rangers the 1-0 lead with a minute 32 seconds left in the first. Then in the second period, the Oilers would respond as Oscar Klefbom would score his first of the season to tie the game at one a piece. But come the third period the Oilers would take over as they would get a powerplay goal from Connor McDavid, and a pair of goals from Leon Draisaitl to give the Oilers the 4-1 victory to go 5-0-0 to start the 2019-20 season.

     

    Tampa Bay Lightning v. Ottawa Senators – 4p EST Start Time

    In Ottawa the Tampa Bay Lightning come to town looking to keep the Senators winless to start the season, and after a scoreless first period the Senators would strike first when Colin White would find the back of the net to make it 1-0. But the Lightning would respond less than 40 seconds later as Ondrej Palat would tie the game back up, but that wouldn’t last as Jean-Gabriel Pageau would score to give the Senators the 2-1 lead with 27 seconds left in the second period. Then in the third period Luke Witkowski would tie the game at two, but newly acquired Vladislav Namestnikov would score back to back goals to give the Senators the 4-2 victory.

     

    Nashville Predators v. Los Angeles Kings – 6p EST Start Time

    In Los Angeles the Kings play host to the Nashville Predators who would strike first to make it 1-0 when Mikael Granlund would score for the Predators. But the Kings would storm back as they would get goals from Michael Amadio and Anze Kopitar to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Then in the second period the Kings would score again as Kyle Clifford would make it 3-1. To end the second period Ilya Kovalchuk would score to give the Kings a three goal lead heading into the second intermission. However the third period would be a wild one as the Predators would score three straight goals to tie the game at for when they got goals from Viktor Arvidsson, Matt Duchene, and Colton Sissons, but the Kings would score three unanswered goals in the final 59 seconds of the game as Alex Iafallo, Dustin Brown, and Drew Doughty would all score to give the Kings the 7-4 victory.

    In Montreal the Canadiens would double up the St. Louis Blues 6-3 after breaking loose with a three goal third period to claim the victory. The Blues would get their goals from Brayden Schenn, Sammy Blais, and Vice Dunn while the Canadiens would get their goals from Tomas Tatar, Johnathan Drouin, Phillip Danault, Artturi Lehkonen, Brendan Gallagher, and Max Domi.

     

    Toronto Maple Leafs v. Detroit Red Wings – 7p EST Start Time

    The Toronto Maple Leafs took on their Original Six rival in the Detroit Red Wings in Detroit and would put up five goals against the Wings to secure the 5-2 victory. The Red Wings would get goals from Jacob de la Rose and Darren Helm while the Maple Leafs would get goals from Nicholas Shore, Ilya Mikheyev, Alexander Kerfoot, Jake Muzzin and Trevor Moore.

     

    Florida Panthers v. New York Islanders – 7p EST Start Time

    On the island the New York Islanders would face the Florida Panthers in another tightly contested Saturday night matchup that would require a shootout to determine the winner. The Islanders would get their goals from Anders Lee and Josh Bailey while the Panthers got their goals scored by Denis Malgin and Evgenii Dadonov. Then in the shootout Brock Nelson would score the lone goal to give the Islanders the 3-2 victory.

     

    Columbus Blue Jackets v. Carolina Hurricanes – 7p EST Start Time

    Sporting their new white away uniforms at home for the Carolina faithful, the Hurricanes would host the Columbus Blue Jackets in a close matchup that would see the Blue Jackets get the lone third period goal to secure a 3-2 victory. The Hurricanes goal scoreres were Erik Haula and Dougie Hamilton, while for the Blue Jackets they received goals from Markus Nutivaara, Oliver Bjorkstrand, and Pierre-Luc Dubois.

     

    Winnipeg Jets v. Chicago Blackhawks – 7p EST Start Time

    In Chicago the Blackhawks hosted the Winnipeg Jets in a tightly contested matchup that would require overtime, and the Jets would only need 47 seconds to win it off of a Mark Scheifele goal to win 3-2. The Jets other goal scorers were Nikolaj Ehlers (PPG) and Andrew Copp while the Blackhawks goal scorers were Brandon Saad (SHG) and Brent Seabrook (PPG).

    In Minnesota the Pittsburgh Penguins would tame the Wild with a 7-4 victory. The Wild would get goals from Jason Zucker (PPG), Jared Spurgeon, Brad Hunt, Luke Kunin, while the Penguins would get goals from Patric Hornqvist (PPG), Sidney Crosby, Adam Johnson, Kris Letang, Joseph Blandisi, Jake Guentzel, and Sam Lafferty.

    In Colorado you had a nail biter as the Avalanche hosted the Arizona Coyotes. After two scoreless periods both teams would erupt for two goals each as the Coyotes got goals from Michael Grabner and Nick Schmaltz, while the Avalanche got goals from Nazem Kadri (PPG) and Tyson Jost. Then in overtime it would be Andre Burakovsky to net the game winner for the 3-2 Avalanche victory.

     

    Philadelphia Flyers v. Vancouver Canucks – 10p EST Start Time

    In Vancouver the Philadelphia Flyers begin their Western Canada trip with a battle against the Canucks. In the first period the Canucks would get a goal from Brock Boeser for the 1-0 lead. Then in the second period the Flyers would get on the board when Carsen Twarynski would score his first career NHL goal to tie the game at one, but the Canucks would respond right away with one of their own as Tanner Pearson scored to make it 2-1 going into the second intermission. In the third period on the powerplay the Flyers would respond as Oskar Lindblom would score his second of the season to tie the game at two a piece. After a scoreless overtime period the game would go to the shootout and The Canucks would get the victory after getting goals from Elias Pettersson and Tanner Pearson to win the game 3-2.

     

    Calgary Flames v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p EST Start Time

    The Vegas Golden Knights would host the Calgary Flames in a match that saw the Knights dominate the Flames. In the first period the Knights would get a goal from Tomas Nosek, then in the second period the Flames would score two goals  in 33 seconds when Rasmus Andersson and Johnny Gaudreau would make it 2-1 for the Flames. However, the Knights would turn it on and get goals from Mark Stone, William Carrier, and Paul Stastny to take the 4-2 lead heading into the second intermission. In the third period the Knights would add to their lead with a Ryan Reaves goal to make it 5-2 then Cody Glass would score to make it 6-2 as the Goldn Knights rolled on to victory.

    News:

    • Dallas Stars restricted free agent defenseman Julius Honka has signed with JYP Jyvaskyla in Finland. Honka’s agreement does include an out clause that will allow him to return to the NHL when the opportunity presents itself.

     

    • Carolina Hurricanes have announced that forward Jordan Martinook will undergo surgery on Friday, October 11th to repair a core muscle injury. Martinook is expected to miss between 6-8 weeks.

    Tampa Bay Lightning v. Toronto Maple Leafs – 7p EST Start Time

    Coming to Toronto the Tampa Bay Lightning get forward Brayden Point back into the lineup after missing the first three games due to injury, and Point wouldn’t need long to get back into the groove of things as he would score in the first two and a half minutes to give the Lightning the early 1-0 lead over the Maple Leafs. However, the Leafs would score the next two as Andreas Johnsson would score on the powerplay, and John Tavares would follow up with a goal of his own to give the Leafs the 2-1 lead, but Nikita Kucherov (PPG) and Steven Stamkos would both score to regain the lead for the Lightning. Before the end of the first period both teams would trade goals as Auston Matthews would tie the game at three, but Stamkos on the powerplay would give the Lightning the 4-3 lead heading into the first intermission. Then going into the second period Point would strike again for the Lightning as they would take a 5-3 lead into the second intermission. Then in the third period the Lightning would get a goal from Ondrej Palat, and Nikita Kucherov would score his second of the game to give the Lightning the 7-3 victory.

    In an Original Six matchup the Detroit Red Wings visit the Montreal Canadiens, and a little past the halfway mark of the first period Darren Helm would score his first of the season to give the Red Wings the 1-0 lead. Then heading into the first intermission both clubs would trade goals in the final minute of the period as Joel Armia would score for the Canadiens, then Tyler Bertuzzi would take the lead back for the Red Wings. In the second period Max Domi would score to tie the game at two, but then Anthony Mantha would score on the powerplay to give the Wings a 3-2 lead going into the second intermission. Then in the third period the Wings would get a goal from Luke Glendening to seasl the victory over the Canadiens 4-2.

    The New Jersey Devils host the Edmonton Oilers as they look to win their first game of the season, and the Devils would get an early jump on a Kyle Palmeri goal, but then Leon Draisaitl would score for the Oilers to tie the game up at one heading into the first intermission. Then in the second period Nikita Gusev would score for the Devils to regain the lead, but again the Oilers would strike as Jame sNeal would score his seventh of the season on the powerplay to tie the game back up at two heading into the second period.Then Damon Severson and Connor McDavid would swap goals to send the game to overtime tied 3-3. After a scoreless overtime period the game would go to the shootout where Draisaitl would be the lone goal scorer to give the Oilers the 4-3 shootout victory.

     

    Anaheim Ducks v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

    In Pittsburgh the Penguins would look to tame the Anaheim Ducks, and on the powerplay early in the second period Sidney Crosby would score the first goal of the game, but the Ducks would respond as Ondrej Kase would score to tie the game at one going into the second intermission. Going into the third period the Penguins would get a goal from Jake Guentzel who would score his first of the season to give the Penguins the 2-1 victory.

     

    St. Louis Blues v. Ottawa Senators – 730p EST Start Time

    In Ottawa, the Senators host the St. Louis Blues and Vitaly Abramov would score his first career NHL goal to give the Senators the 1-0 lead over the defending Stanley Cup Champions near the halfway point of the first period. Then to end the first the Senators would get a goal from Artem Anisimov to give them the 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. Then in the second period the Blues would respond with goals from David Perron (PPG) and Oskar Sundqvist to tie the game at two. To end the second period Chris Tierney would score shorthanded to give the Senators their lead back heading into the second intermission. Then in the third period Jay Bouwmeester and Brayden Schenn would score for the Blues, but Anthony Duclair would score late to tie the game at four for the Senators. But it would be Ryan O’Reilly to score the final goal to give the Blues the 6-4 victory.

    In Winnipeg the Jets would host the Minnesota Wild, and the Wild would strike first as Ryan Hartman scored his first goal as a member of the Wild to give them the 1-0 lead going into the first intermission. In the second period it would be the Jets taking off as they would get goals from both Blake Wheeler and Patrik Laine to give the Jets the 2-1 lead over the Wild heading into the second intermission. Then in the third period the Wild would get a goal from Brad Hunt to tie the game at two, but the Jets would score three unanswered goals as Kyle Connor, Jack Roslovic, and Patrick Laine (second of the game) to give the Jets the 5-2 victory.

     

    San Jose Sharks v. Chicago Blackhawks – 830p EST Start Time

    In Chicago the San Jose Sharks look to end their four game losing streak, but it would be the Blackhawks striking first as Dominik Kubalik would score his first of the season to give the Blackhawks the 1-0 lead, but then the Sharks would respond as Kevin Labanc would score on the powerplay to tie it up at one. The Blackhawks and Sharks would trade goals one more time before the period ends as Andrew Shaw would score to give the Blackhawks the lead again, but the returning Patrick Marleau would score on the powerplay to tie the game for the Sharks going into the first intermission. In the second period both teams would trade goals once again as the Blackhawks would get another goal from Shaw and Dylan Strome would net his first of the season, while for the Sharks would get goals from Brent Burns and Marleau (second of the game) to keep the game tied as both teams enter the second intermission tied a four a piece. Then in the third period Barclay Goodrow would score the lone goal of the period to give the Sharks their first win of the season with the 5-4 regulation victory.

     

    Calgary Flames v. Dallas Stars – 830p EST Start Time

    For the Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars both teams are looking for their second win of the season, and in the first period neither team would get the puck in the net, but in the second period the Flames would score two early as Elias Lindholm (PPG) and Noah Hanafin would score to make it 2-0 Flames. However, before the end of the second Joel L’Esperance would score for the Stars cut the Flames lead to one heading into the second intermission. In the third period Jamie Benn would score his first of the season nine seconds into the third on the powerplay to tie the game at two. After a scoreless overtime period the game would go to the shootout which would see the Flames get goals from Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau to secore the 3-2 victory.

     

    Boston Bruins v. Colorado Avalanche – 9p EST Start Time

    In Colorado the Boston Bruins look to end their four game road swing to start the 2019-20 season as they face the Avalanche. The Bruins would start out fast as they would get goals from David Pastrnak and Zdeno Chara to take the 2-0 lead, but Nathan MacKinnon would score late on the powerplay to start the Avalanche’s comeback. In the second period Pierre-Edouard Bellemare would score to tie the game at two, and then in the third period Andre Burakovsky would score his first goal as a member of the Colorado Avalanche to give them the 3-2 lead. Then late in the third Gabriel Landeskog would score to give the Avalanche a two goal lead and eventual 4-2 victory.

     

    Vegas Golden Knights v. Arizona Coyotes – 10p EST Start Time

    In Arizona the Coyotes play host to the Vegas Golden Knights and in the first period would get a two goal lead over the Knights as Conor Garland would score his first career NHL goal, and Nick Schmaltz would score his first of the season to give the Coyotes the 2-0 lead. But with five seconds left in the first period Shea Theodore would score to make it 2-1 Coyotes going into the first intermission. Then in the second period Garland would score his second of the game, and Niklas Hjalmarsson would score to give the Coyotes the 4-1 lead heading into the second intermission. There would be no goals scored in the third period as the Coyotes earn themselves the 4-1 victory.

    News:

    • The Winnipeg Jets have granted defenseman Dmitry Kulikov a personal leave from the team. The Jets have also designated Kulikov to the Non-Player Roster, and will not count against the team’s active 23 man roster. However, Kulikov’s cap hit will continue to count against the Jets salary cap.
      • As a result of Kulikov’s personal leave and Josh Morrissey’s injury the Jets have also called up defenders Sami Niku and Nelson Nogier from the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.
      • The Jets also placed forward Bryan Little on the injured list.

     

    • The San Jose Sharks have signed veteran forward Patrick Marleau to a one year $700k deal.

    Carolina Hurricanes v. Florida Panthers – 7p EST Start Time

    In Florida, the Carolina Hurricanes look to continue their winning ways as they take on their host Panthers, and the Hurricanes would keep their surge going as they would score four goals in the first period as Jordan Staal, Teuvo Teravainen, Dougie Hamilton, and Ryan Dzingel would all get the puck past Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Going into the second period the Panthers would put Sam Montembeault between the pipes to start, but Dzingel would still score his second of the game to give the Hurricanes the 5-0 lead. However, the Panthers would finally get on the board as MacKenzie Weegar would get one past James Reimer to make it 5-1. Then in the third period the Panther would get powerplay goals from Keith Yandle  and Evgenii Dadonov, but Sebastian Aho would score late to give the Hurricanes the 6-3 victory.

    The Edmonton Oilers head to the Island to face the New York Islanders as they look for their third consecutive victory, and in the first period the Islanders would take the lead on an Anthony Beauvillier shorthanded goal, but the Oilers would respond as they would get back to back goals from James Neal at even strength and on the powerplay to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. In the second period James Neal would complete the natural hat trick when he would score his second powerplay goal of the game. Then Zack Kassian would score his third of the season to give the Oilers a 4-1  lead. Then in the third period James Neal would score his fourth of the game to lead the Oilers to an eventual 5-2 viictory. Matt Martin would score the Islanders second goal of the game in the third.

     

    Winnipeg Jets v. Pittsburgh Penguins – 7p EST Start Time

    The Winnipeg Jets look to get themselves in the win column as they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins, but it would be the Penguins who would strike first when Sidney Crosby would strike 32 seconds into the game. However, the Jets would respond with goals from Ville Heinola and Nikolaj Ehlers to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. In the second period the Jets would soar as they would score two more goals as Tucker Poolman and Neal Pionk would get on the board to grow the Jets lead to 4-1. The Jets would hold the Penguins scoreless in the third period to win 4-1.

     

    Dallas Stars v. Washington Capitals – 7p EST Start Time

    After going almost scoreless for two periods, the Detroit Red Wings would score with five seconds left in the second period to take the 1-0 lead off of a Filip Hronek goal. However, going into the third period it would be all Anaheim as the Ducks would get three unanswered goals from Rickard Rakell, Nick Ritchie, and Jakob Silfverberg to collect the 3-1 victory.

    Looking for their first win of the season the San Jose Sharks travel to Nashville hoping to feast on the Predators. However, it would be the Predators who would takedown the Sharks instead as they got a two goal game from Roman Josi, as well as goals from Kyle Turris, Filip Forsberg, and Dante Fabbro to secure a 5-2 victory. the Sharks would get their goals from Evander Kane, who was returning from his three game suspension, and Brent Burns.

     

    Los Angeles Kings v. Calgary Flames – 9p EST Start Time

    In Calgary the Flames host the Los Angeles Kings as they look to get themselves in the win column, and through two periods it would be tightly contested but with the Kings with the slight edge on the score board. While the Flames got second period goals from Matthew Tkachuk and Mikael Backlund, it would be first period goals from Tyler Toffoli and Sean Walker, and a second period goal from Ilya Kovalchuk to give the Kings the 3-2 lead going into the second intermission. Then in the third period with a 64 seconds left in regulation Matthew Tkachuk would score his second of the game to tie it a three and send the game into overtime, but it would be Drew Doughty to end it in 50 seconds to give the Los Angeles Kings the 4-3 overtime victory.

     

    Boston Bruins v. Vegas Golden Knights – 10p EST Start Time

    In Vegas the Boston Bruins would make their third stop of their four game road trip to start the season, and right away the Golden Knights would get the jump on the Bruins with two goals in the first half of the first period from Mark Stone and Reilly Smith. But then in the second half of the first period the Bruins would come back with goals from David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand to tie the game a two going into the first intermission. Then in the second period the Bruins would get another goal from Marchand 33 seconds into the period, and then a little less than two minutes later David Backes would score to make it 4-2 for the Bruins. In the third period the Golden Knights would get a powerplay goal from Max Pacioretty to cut the deficit to one, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Bruins would go on to win 4-3.

    Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of October 2nd through 6th.

     

    First Star – Mika Zibanejad (C, New York Rangers)

    • Zibanejad was first in the NHL in points with 8 (4g-4a) in two games played. Zibanejad would collect four points in each game against the Winnipeg Jets (1g-3a), which would include the tying goal in the third period, on October 3rd. He would then post 3 goals, including the game winning goal, and 1 assist to lead the Rangers to a 4-1 victory over his former team the Ottawa Senators on October 5th. 1 Mika Zibanejad

     

    Second Star – Anthony Mantha (RW, Detroit Red Wings)

    • Mantha would share the League lead in goals (5) and was ranked second overall in the League in points (7) in two games for the Red Wings. Mantha would record 3 points (1g-2a) in a 5-3 victory over the Nashville Predators on October 5th, and then would score all four of Detroit’s goals against the Dallas Stars in their 4-3 win on October 6th. 2 - Anthony Mantha

     

    Third Star – Auston Matthews (C, Toronto Maple Leafs)

    • Matthews would tie with Mantha with five goals, but in three games played for the Maple Leafs. Matthews would score twice, including the game winner, in a 5-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on October 2nd. He would also add a goal in a 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on October 4th, and would tally two more goals, including the game tying goal, in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens on October 5th. 3 - Auston Matthews

    Tampa Bay Lightning v. Carolina Hurricanes – 5p EST Start Time

    After coming back a from a two goal deficit the night before in Washington, the Carolina Hurricanes would bring the magic back for a second consecutive night as they took on the Tampa Bay Lightning. After getting a goal from Brett Pesce in the first 1:14, the Hurricanes would give up three unanswered goals by the Lightning when Tyler Johnson, Kevin Shattenkirk and Steven Stamkos to gain a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission. However, the Hurricanes would climb back as they would get goals from Erik Haula (second period PPG) and Dougie Hamilton (third period PPG) to tie the game and send the game to overtime. Once into overtime the Hurricanes would only need 1:53 of the extra frame as Jaccob Slavin would score to give the Hurricanes their second straight come from behind overtime victory.

     

    Dallas Stars v. Detroit Red Wings – 7p EST Start Time

    Heading to Detroit the Dallas Stars look for their first victory of their very young 2019-20 season, and a quick jump on the Red Wings would help them early on as they would get first period goals from Roope Hintz and Tyler Seguin to give the Stars a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. In the second period it would become the Anthony Mantha show as he would score two goals to tie the game for the Red Wings. Mantha’s first goal would be on the powerplay and 48 seconds into the period. Then Mantha would score again nine minutes later to tie the game. In the third period Mantha would score 15 seconds into the period to complete the natural hat trick, but Roope Hintz would score his second of the game 33 seconds late tie the game back up at three. However, it would be Anthony Mantha once again as he would record his fourth goal of the game to lead the Red Wings to a 4-3 victory over the Stars.

     

    Winnipeg Jets v. New York Islanders – 7p EST Start Time

    The New York Islanders would host a defensively depleted Winnipeg Jets team who would lose Josh Morrissey due to an upper body injury during pregame warmups. The first period neither team would get on the board, but in the second period the Islanders would get three unanswered goals from Josh Bailey (PPG), Brock Nelson, and Anders Lee to give them a commanding 3-0 lead. However, before the end of the second Patrik Laine would get the Jets on the board to cut the Islanders lead to two. However, to start the third period the Islanders would score early to regain their three goal lead when Anthony Beauvillier scored 1:25 into the third period, and that’s all they would need to secure their first victory of the 2019-20 season.

    Per Detroit Red Wings social media, Steve Yzerman’s squad has acquired Alex Biega from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for David Pope. David Pope, a 25-year old left winger, was Detroit’s 2013 4th round pick, drafted 109th overall. Biega, a 31 year old defenseman, split the last 5 seasons with the Canucks and their AHL affiliate the Utica Comets. In 179 career games he’s earned 36 points with a -14 rating.

    The New York Rangers would get a hat trick from Mika Zibanejad after he would score a powerplay goal, even strength, and shorthanded goal to help lead the Rangers to a 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators. Rangers also got a powerplay goal from Artemi Panarin, which Zibanejad assisted on, while the Senators got their lone goal Brady Tkachuk.

    In a tightly contested matchup, the Florida Panthers would defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 after getting a hat trick from Mike Hoffman (2 PPG’s and 1 ESG) and a goal from Noel Acciari. The Lightning would get their goals from Gemel Smith, Steven Stamkos, and Mathieu Joseph.

For the Kings they would get goals from Dustin Brown, Trevor Lewis, Anze Kopitar, Michael Amadio, and Drew Doughty, while the Oilers would get a pair of goals from James Neal, and goals from Connor McDavid, Zack Kassian, Joakim Nygard, and Darnell Nurse. Once the dust settled and the final buzzer sounded it would be the Oilers holding off the Kings with a 6-5 victory.
