Game Recap: New Jersey Devils vs Arizona Coyotes 10/25/19

New Jersey Devils (2-5-2 6pts) vs Arizona Coyotes (6-3-1 13pts)

    Game Recap:

After almost a week off to rest and get some valuable practice time in, the New Jersey Devils host the Arizona Coyotes tonight for their first of two matchups on the season. New Jersey got on the board first as Devils defenseman Sami Vatanen would shoot the puck which was then deflected off of Coyotes defenseman Alex Goligoski’s skates and into the back of the net. A couple moments later, Devils rookie Jack Hughes would score his second goal on the season on the power play, as he would receive a beautiful pass to the right circle that was fired top shelf above Coyotes goalie Anti Rantanen. However before the end of the period, the Coyotes would cut the lead in half as Nick Schmaltz would score his fourth goal on the season. New Jersey would take a 2-1 lead after the first period.

Period two would see each team trade goals and plenty of scoring chances. Michael Grabner of the Coyotes would tie the game 2-2 on a short handed breakaway goal. Pavel Zacha would help the Devils retake the lead as he would score his second goal of the season. However, that would be the last leave the Devils would have for the rest of the night. Oliver Ekman-Larsson would tie the game at 3-3 going into the final period.

Barrey Hayton would score his first NHL goal and give the Coyotes a 4-3 lead early on in the third period. Clayton Keller would add his first goal on the season by scoring on an empty net and securing a 5-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

  • TXHT Announcement – 2019-20 Jersey Tracking

TXHT is proud to announce that for the 2019-20 NHL Season we will be tracking the jerseys that all 31 NHL teams will be wearing this season.

How TXHT will be doing this is through three methods.

    1) In NHL News and Notes

    2) On the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs Game Recap Pages

    3) In the Game Recaps for the Capitals and Maple Leafs

Tracking in Game Previews have not been decided at this time, but is also a possibility.

When you see our Team Previews, which will be debuting tomorrow morning with Anaheim, all 31 teams will have graphics representing their Home, Road, and if applicable, their Alternate or Heritage uniform. Special Event uniforms will not be included in the Team Previews, but will be featured in NHL News and Notes. While there are some teams that will be having alternate jerseys this season, some have not been announced yet and will not be featured in the Team Previews.

TXHT will have a dedicated Jersey Database page for this season which will feature every teams Home, Road, Alternate, Heritage, and Special Event jerseys. This page will be updated when jerseys are unveiled. This page can be found in the 2019-20 sub-section of the NHL section.

For how our jersey tracking will look on the website will look like the following:

    ARI RoadMON Home

    NYR RoadARI Alt

    FLA RoadARI Home

As you can see in the three examples above we see the Arizona Coyotes Road jersey against the Montreal Canadiens Home jersey, New York Rangers Road jersey against the Coyotes Alternate jersey, and the Florida Panthers Road jersey against the Coyotes Home jersey. As you can tell we are only showing off how the logo looks on the front of the jersey. We decided to go with this simpler approach as it is our first season doing the Jersey Tracker. In the future we hope to have full jerseys to display as a part of our tracker.

We hope you all enjoy the Jersey Tracking that we will be doing this season. If you would like to see all of the team jerseys for this season you can visit the page by clicking here.

  • TXHT Card Share – 2019-20 MVP Hockey

TXHT Card Share – 2019-20 MVP Hockey

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the newest feature here at TXHT which is the TXHT Card Share series. To start the series we begin with Upper Deck’s 2019-20 MVP Hockey set that was released earlier this August.

The MVP set, which was originally released for the 1998-99 season, is entering it’s 21st season, and keeping certain elements to them the same as they have been the last few seasons. Outside of the normal border changes to sleek up the design, MVP still only features the last five seasons on the back of the card. The base set is 250 cards featuring star players (200), All Stars (also are short print cards, 19), and rookies (also are short print, 31).

    20190825_172757

For the Rookies, three of the most notable players are Quinn Hughes of Vancouver, Cale Makar or Colorado, and Filip Zadina of Detroit. Players like Jack Hughes will be added to the set later in the season when the updates come out. Same for if any player in the current set moves on to another team via free agency or trade, like with Marcus Johansson pictured above.

For MVP they come with their own fair share of inserts and specialty cards, and one that has been a constant thoughout the series is the branded signatures. All cards come with silver and gold signature cards. Silver Scripts are more common to get while if you buy a blaster box from Retailers or Just Hockey Cards, you will get one Gold Script per box. There are also Super Scripts (limited to 25 per card), Super Script Black (limited to 5 per card), and Printing Plates (limited to 4 per card) and all three can only be found in Hobby boxes.

MVP is also bringing back the Puzzle Back Parallels. Nine cards creates an enlarged version of a specific player, and the players featured this season are Nikita Kucherov, Auston Matthews, Brad Marchand, Hampus Lindholm, Alex Ovechkin, Matthew Barzal, Artemi Panarin, Connor McDavid, Patrick Kane, Sidney Crosby, Elias Pettersson, Carey Price, Nathan MacKinnon, Brent Burns, Drew Doughty, Leon Draisaitl, Steven Stamkos, Blake Wheeler, Mitch Marner, Jakub Voracek, Joanthan Toews, and Rasmus Dahlin.

    20190825_172955

For inserts, there are a few but the main ones people will see more are Net Crashers, Laser Shots, and Supernovas. There is also Global Series, Postseason, and a 31 card Autographs set.

    20190825_172818

Also, one of the cool sets that MVP is doing is they are recreating a set from 20 years ago like last season when they celebrated their 20th anniversary. This season they created a 100 card set to honor and replicate the 1999-2000 MVP Stanley Cup Edition. It is a nice looking set, but last season’s was better when they did the 1998-99 MVP style. though I may be bias because I loved that set as a kid.

Overall the 2019-20 MVP Hockey set is a solid one to start wetting the appetite for the start of the new season. Despite their early release, and known roster updates that take place while the set is being printed, it is a recommended set for those who want to start collecting for the 2019-20 season.

*All pictures taken by Michael Lindenbaum. Are cards pictured were purchased by Michael for his personal collection.

  • TXHT Jersey Share – Toronto celebrates NHL’s 100th anniversary

TXHT Jersey Share – Toronto celebrates NHL’s 100th anniversary

Today for Dickson’s entry in the TXHT Jersey Share series, we take a look at the Toronto Maple Leafs throwing back to the Toronto Arenas on the NHL’s official 100th anniversary.

    20190716_102325

Dickson: When the Maple Leafs announced that this was to be worn as the throwback on December 19th, 2017, I bought this jersey, with Auston Matthews as the player that I chose.  I also chose the player option, as I really liked how the pattern on the numbers were and the numbers had an old-school like feel to them.

    20190716_102420

This a jersey that is on the adiZero template and was purchased through the Toronto Maple Leafs official team store and I was glad to have purchased this jersey for my collection.

  • TXHT Jersey Share – 2017 NHL All-Star Game Atlantic Division

TXHT Jersey Share – 2017 NHL All-Star Game Atlantic Division

Today in the TXHT Jersey Share series where Dickson briefly discusses one of the four jerseys the NHL put out for the 2017 NHL All-Star Game.

    20190716_102008.jpg

Dickson: Each division had a different jersey, and I would go on to purchase the Atlantic Division jersey and the Purple version, which was worn by the Central Division. As the player versions were not available when I purchased them from Dick’s Sporting Goods, I went with the blank version of the jersey.

    20190716_102143.jpg

This would be the first year that Reebok would make four jerseys for the divisions in the All-Star Game. The Atlantic Division would only wear it for the one game in the All-Star Game tournament, losing to the Metropolitan Division, 10-6.

  • TXHT Jersey Share – Toronto St. Pats

TXHT Jersey Share – Toronto St. Pats

Today in the TXHT Jersey Share series we take a look at a throwback for the Toronto Maple Leafs from the 1922-25 season when they were known as the Toronto St. Pats.
    20190716_102516.jpg

Dickson: When the Maple Leafs made the announcement that they would wear this jersey back in February 2017, I knew I had to pick this up.  Unless I know that there is a specific reason for me to get a player jersey, I get the replica jerseys with no name on the back.  This jersey is a very cool jersey to have and the Maple Leafs brought this back on the adiZero template this past season for two games.
