TXHT Jersey Share – 20 Years for a Second Chance

Today in TXHT Jersey Share we take our second look at the Adidas AdiZero line this time with the Washington Capitals home jersey, and with a little help from our friends at Cool Hockey, we got it prepared for the opportunity of a lifetime.

I’m not going to lie, but the Adidas jerseys are really nice and probably have the best quality out of all the jerseys I’ve gotten my hands on. The fabric is one of the best I’ve ever felt for a hockey jersey, and I have quite a few authentic jerseys including a game worn jersey.

Obviously there is no distinct changes between the Reebok version and the Adidas version for the Capitals home and road jerseys. One of the best features though is thanks to Cool Hockey, and that is the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals patch. It had been 20 years since the last time the Capitals made it to the Finals, and to have this moment was special for me and I had to get the patch on the jersey to commerate the moment.

TXHT Jersey Share – Ovi the Rookie

Today on TXHT Jersey Share we take a look at this replica jersey that was purchased during Alex Ovechkin’s rookie season with the Washington Capitals.

So without a doubt it’s virtually impossible to go to a Capitals game without seeing a few thousand Ovechkin jerseys in the red, white, and blue (navy), but it’s a little less for the original jerseys the Capitals were wearing when Ovechkin came into the League, but that’s also not surprising being how the majority of the people jumped on the bandwagon once the Capitals started going to the playoffs once they went back to rocking the red.

This jersey is a true gem. I’m glad I was able to purchase this when I did, and this is still the only alex Ovechkin jersey that I own.

TXHT Jersey Share – The Habs Outdoors

Today in TXHT Jersey Share we take a look at our third straight NHL Winter Classic jersey with the Montreal Canadiens.

For the 2016 NHL Winter Classic it saw the Boston Bruins host the Canadiens at Gillette Stadium. For the Canadiens they did this white ensemble which is based off of their 1940’s look, with the crest being from the 1920’s. The shade of blue that is used is from 1909, and the globes on the sleeves are from 1925. Overall a really cool jersey honoring different aspects of the Canadiens franchise history.

TXHT Jersey Share – Our Turn to Host the Outdoors

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls it’s now our turn to host the great outdoors as we take a look at the Washington Capitals 2015 Winter Classic jersey.

For the second foray into the Winter Classic the Capitals would host the Chicago Blackhawks at Nationals Park, and they would bring us a jersey that was inspired by past teams before the Capitals came into existence.

This was a cool jersey for the Capitals which mixed a few things to great success, and for the names and numbers on the backs the material they used for the patches had a more fabric feel to them which was cool.

Fun fact for these jerseys. This marked the first time Reebok did not sell authentics, and the replicas did not have the Winter Classic patch on them. You had to by the patch separately which was a massive disservice by Reebok. Also the “W” on the crest was not your typical patch and was, and still is, very crinkly. Still a cool jersey though.

TXHT Jersey Share – Taking it Outdoors

In today’s edition of TXHT Jersey Share we head outdoors for the 2011 NHL Winter Classic and the beautiful jersey the Washington Capitals brought back to life.

When it was announced that the Pittsburgh Penguins were going to host their long time rival Capitals for the 2011 Winter Classic at Heinz Field many began to speculate what jersey the Capitals could be wearing for the game. Given the first few years were throwbacks to what was worn in the past or a take on what was part of that cities history it was all but expected the bring back theor retro red, white, and blue jerseys for the Classic. That became all but confirmed when the logos for the two teams were unveiled and then at Fan Fest the official unveiling of the jerseys by Alex Ovechkin, Yvon Labre, and Rod Langway.

It’s a very beautiful jersey that works with today’s team, and by this jersey being introduced for the Classic it allowed it to come back full time as an alternate, first as the retro white, then as the retro red.

TXHT Opinion – The Capitals Salary Cap Crunch

With July coming to an end the Washington Capitals have made some moves to improve their bottom six and their defense. However, with these moves and the re-signings of forwards Jakub Vrana and Chandler Stephenson, and defenseman Christian Djoos the Capitals have put themselves into a bit of a Cap crunch.

Currently the Capitals stand with $1.3mil over the Salary Cap, which is fine for now as teams are allowed to be 10% over the Cap up until the start of the regular season. Obviously with the arbitration cases of Djoos and Stephenson the end results were a little higher than some expected and rightfully so. Djoos was awarded a one year $1.25mil contract, while Stephenson got a one year $1.05mil contract. I’m no math wizard, but I see where we have our $1.3mil Cap issue.

Now hear me out here because this may get complicated, but last I checked both Djoos and Stephenson did not get a lot of playing time as the season came near an end and the playoffs wore on. Now many will bring up the fact that Djoos was injured for a good amount of the regular season, but yet once he was back in the lineup, specifically in the playoffs, Djoos couldn’t get more than seven minutes a game. Another thing that didn’t help Djoos’ case was that Jonas Siegenthaler played Djoos out of th lineup. Once Siegenthaler replaced Djoos in the lineup in the first round against Carolina, Siegenthaler played more minutes in one game than what Djoos averaged in the playoffs as a whole. So to me, unless Djoos has a stellar training camp, Siegenthaler is your sixth defenseman this upcoming season and Djoos is expendable now.

Now for Stephenson, to me he became expendable when Travis Boyd started getting more playing time. Stephenson this past season also didn’t exceed in his sophmore year like he did in his rookie campaign where he was an integral part to the Capitals winning the Stanley Cup. With the Capitals signing Garnet Hathaway, Richard Panik, and Brendan Leipsic this pushes both Stephenson and Boyd out of the equation.

So how would I fix this? Great question. First thing I’d do is clear out the $1.3mil in Cap space that is putting us over the Cap, and how I would do that is by trading both Djoos and Stephenson for draft picks. Yes, draft picks. You can never have too many draft picks. So with those two trades you clear out the $1.3mil, next thing I would do is send down Travis Boyd via waivers and call up Shane Gersich who is a lesser Cap hit by $100k. Now here is where it gets tricky for the Capitals. Who would be the seventh defenseman once Djoos has been traded? I’ve heard Tyler Lewington’s name thrown around and being how he has a cheap Cap hit, it would work, however, there is still no wiggle room which means the Capitals are going to need to make another trade and give a young guy a spot. Particularly on offense. Who would I trade? I honestly don’t know, and that’s why I’m not the general manager.

One thing is for sure, Brian MacLellan is working the phones and is looking to get his team under the Cap and with some wiggle room to do call ups in case of an injury. It will be an interesting time leading up to training camp in September, and will be very interesting to see what moves MacLellan will make in that time.

TXHT Jersey Share – The Gamer Tag

In today’s edition of the TXHT Jersey Share series we’re going to have some fun as we take a look at the Washington Capitals home jersey that was introduced in the summer of 2007.

So funny story about this jersey. I actually won it at a Capitals game the first season they wore these new Reebok jerseys, but that’s not the funny part. the funny part is this. So the Capitals at the time were promoting this new credit card called the “Revolution” Credit Card, or at least that’s what I remember the name of it was *laughs*, and they were running a contest for those who registered for the card. I applied and was declined the card (which was fine by me), but it entered me for this jersey. Well as I already mentioned, I won, but because I was the fourth and final entrant to enter and I think they just felt bad for me so they gave it to me like 10 minutes after I got back to my seats *laugh*. That was hilarious.

Now for the back of the jersey this was the first time I ever got a jersey customized and I chose to do my gamer tag which is xtremist75. Obviously one so called Capitals “Fan” blog took a picture of me without my knowledge to make fun of this as a “jersey foul”, but honestly it was me just doing my gamer tag. And cool fact here. X75 is xtremist75 abbreviated, so now you know how X75 Productions got it’s name.

TXHT Jersey Share – The Black Dome

Welcome to another edition the TXHT Jersey Share series as today we take a look at the Black Dome jersey of the Washington Capitals.

Originally introduced as the Capitals first ever alternate jersey during the 1997-98 season, it would remain their alternate until the end of the 1999-2000 season. During those three season the nameplate on the back was curved. When the Capitals made the change to have this jersey replace the Blue Eagle unifom at the start of the 2000-01 season the nameplate would be straightened to match the Capitals then home white jersey.

TXHT Jersey Share – The White Eagle

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to another edition of TXHT Jersey Share. Today we bring to you another jersey in the Washington Capitals history.

The White Eagle jersey was first introduced in the summer of 1995 as part of their rebrand, but it was similar to the Blue Eagle jersey that had the word “CAPITALS” on the front of the jersey. However, going into the 1997-98 season the team removed the woodmark from their then home jersey. The Capitals would continue to wear this uniform all the way to the end of the 2006-07 season to which then they would rebrand back to the red white and blue (navy) that they have been with to this day.

TXHT Jersey Share – Brass Bonanza

It’s time to tune up the band and play some “Brass Bonanza” as the TXHT Jersey Share series looks at the Hartford Whalers jersey that was brought back this past season by the Carolina Hurricanes for Whalers Night.

This beauty of a jersey was brought back by the Hurricanes for two games of the 2018-19 season to pay homage to their history before moving to North Carolina in 1997.

I had two opportunities to obtain this jersey. The first time when Shaggy, Dickson, and I went to Raleigh for Whalers Night against the Boston Bruins, and again a few months later when our friends at Cool Hockey made them available. I obviously went the Cool Hockey route given how I wanted to get the jersey customized with my name and number on the back, which was not an option at the game back in December. Really awesome jersey, and another quality job by our friends at Cool Hockey.
