    There was a full 15-game slate yesterday.

     

     

    PHILADELPHIA 4, NY Rangers 0

    Claude Giroux would register his 481st career assist, moving into second place for the most assists in Flyers history.

    For the second straight match-up between the two teams, the Philadelphia Flyers would go on to beat the Rangers by a shutout.

     

    BUFFALO 3, Montreal 2 (OT)

     

    The Buffalo Sabres would defeat the Montreal Canadiens to win their eighth consecutive game, the fourth such occasion of winning eight consecutive games.

     

     

    Montreal’s Andrew Shaw would go on to score his seventh goal of the season in the overtime loss to the Sabres.

     

     

    NY Islanders 4, NEW JERSEY 3 (OT)

     

    The Islanders Mathew Barzal would register the game-winner in overtime to defeat the New Jersey Devils 4-3.

     

    For the Devils, Keith Kinkaid had 31 saves on 35 opportunities.

    WASHINGTON 3, Detroit 1

    In the Washington Capitals contest against the Detroit Red Wings, Washington’s Tom Wilson, Michal Kempny, and Alex Ovechkin would score.  For Detroit, Andreas Athanasiou, would register the lone goal.

    MINNESOTA 4, Winnipeg 2

    The Minnesota Wild would score four unanswered goals to get the win, and improve to a record of 14-7-2.

     

    ANAHEIM 2, Edmonton 1 (OT)

     

    The Anaheim Ducks Rickard Rakell would score his fifth regular-season overtime goal, tying Scott Niedermeyer.  Rakell is one regular-season overtime goal away from tying Corey Perry and Hall of Famer Teemu Selanne for second place with six.

     

     

    VEGAS 2, Calgary 0

     

    Vegas Golden Knights G Marc-Andre Fleury would go on to register his 52nd NHL career shutout in the Golden Knights 2-0 win.  He is one win away from tying Pekka Rinne for third place on the all-time list for shutouts by an active NHL goaltender.

     

    COLUMBUS 4, Toronto 2

    With the Columbus Blue Jackets win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, they now have sole possession of first place in the Metropolitan Division.

    The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Chicago Blackhawks last night by a 4-2 score.

    Tampa Bay is 7-0-1 against the Blackhawks since their match-up in the 2015 Stanley Cup Final, compiling seven straight wins in that eight game span.

    Jordan Martinook registered a hat trick for the Carolina Hurricanes in the big win last night.

    San Jose’s Joe Thornton recorded his 231st game with multiple assists in the regular season, one shy of tying Joe Sakic for 10th place all time.

     

     

    Also, Joe Thornton would go on to play in his 1,500th NHL game last night and was honoured in a pre-game ceremony last night in San Jose.

    Today is Friday, November 23rd, 2018 and these are your news and notes.

    There were no contests yesterday and today we will preview a few of the contests that are happening today.

    First, there is the NHL Thanksgiving Showdown between the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers at 1 p.m. ET on NBC.

     

     

    The New York Rangers are currently 12-8-2 on the season and the Philadelphia Flyers are 9-10-2 on the season.

     

    The New York Rangers look to win their fourth consecutive game and the Philadelphia Flyers look to get back in the win column today.

     

    New York Rangers rookie Filip Chytil looks to extend his goal scoring streak to six consecutive games today.

     

    Philadelphia needs to do a better job today with moving the puck and taking better chances on any and all scoring chances.

     

    Philadelphia’s performance against the Buffalo Sabres was not good and the Sabres burned the Flyers on multiple occasions.

    Next we have the Edmonton Oilers facing off against the Anaheim Ducks at 4 p.m. ET.  This contest will be available for free on NHL.TV as the Free Game of the Week.

     

    Edmonton is 10-10-1 (21 pts) on the season and Anaheim is 9-9-5 (23 pts).

     

    Edmonton is looking to win back-to back games under new bench boss Ken Hitchcock however the Oilers are 2-6-0 in their last eight contests.

     

    The Anaheim Ducks in their last 16 contests are 4-8-4.

     

    The key players to watch in today’s contest are the Oilers Connor McDavid, who is recently coming off scoring his 100th NHL career goal in Edmonton’s Tuesday contest, and Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf.

     

    Getzlaf has four points in his last two games and has registered six points in the last three contests against the Oilers.

     

     

    The Winnipeg Jets are 12-6-2 (26 pts) on the season and the Minnesota Wild has a record of 13-7-2 (25 pts).

     

    Winnipeg looks to win their second game on their road trip against the Wild and bounce back after their 6-3 loss against the Calgary Flames Wednesday night.

     

    Minnesota looks to win their second straight game today.

     

    Winnipeg Jets look to defeat the Minnesota Wild in their third game on road trip

     

     

    The Montreal Canadiens thus far have a record of 11-7-4 (26 pts) and the Buffalo Sabres have a record of 14-6-2.

     

    Buffalo looks to win their eighth consecutive contest and looks to halt Montreal’s Max Domi and his scoring streak of at least a point at 11 consecutive contests.

     

    Montreal looks to get back to winning ways after losing their last two games and three out of their last five.

     

     

     

    The New York Islanders have a record of 10-8-2 (22 pts) and the New Jersey Devils have a record of 9-9-2 (20 pts).

     

    The Islanders look to get back in the win column after dropping their last two games while the New Jersey Devils look to tie the Islanders in the division standings.

     

    New Jersey’s Pavel Zacha looks to have goals in four consecutive games.

     

    The Islanders C Matthew Barzal has six points in the past six contests and the Devils G Keith Kinkaid is 3-0-1 in his last four games and has a GAA of 1.75 with a save percentage of .940 in those last four contests.

     

     

     

    Finally, we will take a look at the contest between the Calgary Flames and the Vegas Golden Knights.

     

    The Pacific Division-leading Calgary Flames have a record of 13-8-1 (27 pts) and the Vegas Golden Knights have a record of 10-12-1 (21 pts).

     

    Things have not been looking up for the Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights throughout this season.

     

    Vegas looks to have a stronger performance against the Flames on their home ice after getting outplayed and outbeat in their 7-2 loss to Calgary on Tuesday night.

     

    Calgary looks to win their fourth consecutive game and their third win against Pacific-division foes.

    Today is Wednesday, November 21st, 2018, and these are your news and notes.

     

    The lone contest of the day pitted the Edmonton Oilers at the San Jose Sharks.

     

    Edmonton would go on to win the contest 4-3 in overtime.

     

    Edmonton’s Connor McDavid would score his 100th career NHL goal in his 230th NHL game in the win.

     

    Leon Draisaitl’s overtime goal would be his sixth, moving him into sole possession for second place all-time for regular-season overtime goals as an Oiler.

     

     

    San Jose’s Joonas Donskoi would score in the opening minute of the contest, making it the 28th such goal in the first minute of a game during the 2018-19 campaign.

     

     

    Joe Thornton would also register an assist in the contest, his 1,033th career assist.  he is now tied with Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux for 11th place on the League’s all-time list.

     

     

    Edmonton overcame three deficits to seal the win in the regular season for the 24th time and the first since the 2016-17 with a 6-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche on November 23, 2016.

     

     

    Finally, Oilers G Mikko Koskinen made 22 saves in the contest to move to 5-2-0 on the season.

     

    There is a full slate of games today with 14 on the schedule before no contests tomorrow.

     

     

    In NHL news today…

     

    With Edmonton’s win over San Jose last night, it marked the first win for new Oilers head coach, Ken Hitchcock.

    Colorado Avalanche F Mikko Rantanen has been fined $2,000 for diving/embellishment.

     

    The Anaheim Ducks and the city of Anaheim reached an agreement yesterday for the team to stay put in Anaheim through 2048.

     

    Per part of this agreement, the team name will remain the Anaheim Ducks.

    The New York Rangers would get their sixth consecutive win at home in the one-goal victory over the Dallas Stars last night at Madison Square Garden.

    Buffalo 5, PITTSBURGH 4 (OT) 

    Buffalo’s Jack Eichel would score to help the Buffalo Sabres win their consecutive win last night.

    Buffalo would come back from a three-goal deficit to also give the Pittsburgh Penguins their fourth consecutive loss.

    Washington 5, MONTREAL 4 (OT) 

    Despite the Montreal Canadiens scoring three goals in the span of 1:15 to give Montreal a 4-2 lead, the Washington Capitals tied the game in the third period and Lars Eller would score the game-winner with 1:26 left in the overtime frame to give the Capitals the 5-4 win in Montreal last night.

    Washington’s Alex Ovechkin would move into a tie for seventh place all-time on power-play goals last night in the contest.

    Florida 7, OTTAWA 5

    Florida’s Mike Hoffman extended his point-scoring streak to 16 games in the Florida Panthers win in Ottawa last night.

    Los Angeles 2, ST. LOUIS 0

    The Los Angeles Kings would shut out the St. Louis Blues 2-0, which would mark the last game that Mike Yeo would coach for the Blues.  Yeo would later be terminated as the head coach for the Blues.  More on the Yeo news in the NHL news section of the Daily article.

    NASHVILLE 3, Tampa Bay 2

    Nashville Predators G Pekka Rinne earned career win 319 to tie Mikka Kipursoff for the most by a Finnish-born goaltender in the one-goal victory by the Predators last night.

    CALGARY 7, Vegas 2

    The Calgary Flames would rout the Vegas Golden Knights 7-2 last night in Calgary.

    Johnny Gaudreau would go on to have a four-point performance in the contest.

    Calgary is now atop the Pacific Division standings.

    Winnipeg 6, VANCOUVER 3

    Winnipeg’s Patrik Laine would register his sixth career hat trick in the win over the Vancouver Canucks.

    Wayne Gretzky is the only other player in NHL history to register more than six hat tricks before their 21st birthday.

    There is only one contest tonight.

    The St. Louis Blues announced that Mike Yeo has been fired as head coach and Craig Berube has been named the interim head coach.

    Dallas Stars Jason Spezza would collect his 900th career point in the Stars win over the Islanders yesterday.  His 900th point would be an assist on Roope Hintz’s first career NHL goal.

     

    CAROLINA 2, New Jersey 1

    In the Carolina Hurricanes one-goal win over the New Jersey Devils, the Hurricanes would score two goals in the span of eight seconds to seal the win.

    The franchise mark is two goals in six seconds, which was set on March 28, 1987, when the Hartford Whalers did it against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

     

    CHICAGO 3, Minnesota 1

    Colorado 4, ANAHEIM 3 (OT)

    The Colorado Avalanche would get their 1,000th win as a franchise in the overtime frame with the win over the Anaheim Ducks last night.

    Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen also became the eighth player in the franchise history or the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche to have 30 points in 20 games played with the club last night.

    Colorado would score the overtime winner with two seconds left in the overtime frame.

     

    Vegas 6, EDMONTON 3

    The Vegas Golden Knights went on to double up the Edmonton Oilers with a 6-3 win.

    Marc-Andre Fleury would go on to have 29 saves in the win.

    There are nine games on the docket tonight across the NHL.

    Detroit 3, NEW JERSEY 2 (OT)

    The Detroit Red Wings had another comeback in their contest against the New Jersey Devils yesterday afternoon.  The Red Wings came back from a 2-0 deficit to win the contest..

    Tampa Bay 6, PHILADELPHIA 5 (OT)

    Brayden Point had consecutive multi-goal games for the first time in his career and joined three other players in Tampa Bay Lightning history to have such a mark.

    Despite the loss in overtime, the Philadelphia Flyers would score four goals in the span of 6:04 to tie the game against the Lightning.  Philadelphia also became the ninth club to score four goals in the final 10 minutes of the contest to tie a game.

    Buffalo 3, MINNESOTA 2

    The Buffalo Sabres would go on to defeat the Minnesota Wild and with the win, the Sabres now have 26 points in their last 2mi0 contests and the second best 20 game start since the overtime point era started.

    OTTAWA 6, Pittsburgh 4

    Ottawa Senators Mark Stone had a game with two goals on four shots to help lift the Ottawa Senators past the Pittsburgh Steelers with a 6-4 win.

    Matt Duchene would also reach the 500 point mark with a two goal, one assist performance in the win as well.

    NY RANGERS 4, Florida 2

    New York Rangers Filip Chytil became the only teenager in the long-history of the NY Rangers to score in three straight games in the win over the Florida Panthers yesterday.

    Columbus 4, CAROLINA 1

    Columbus Blue Jackets Cam Atkinson registered the fifth career hat trick in Blue Jackets history with the rout of the Carolina Hurricanes last night.

    Montreal 3, VANCOUVER 2

    Elias Pettersson scored to be the third player in Vancouver Canucks history to register 11 goals in 16 games in the Canucks 3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens yesterday.

    Montreal Canadiens Max Domi became the tenth player to have a nine game point scoring streak in their first season with the franchise.

    NASHVILLE 5, Los Angeles 3

    Los Angeles Kings Dion Phaneuf became the seventh player this season to play in his 1,00th NHL game in the Kings 5-3 loss to the Nashville Predators last night.

     

    Boston 2, ARIZONA 1

    Boston Bruins Forward Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson would score his first career goal in the Bruins win over the Arizona Coyotes.

     

    CALGARY 4, Edmonton 2

    Elias Lindholm would score twice to help the Calgary Flames double up the Edmonton Oilers in a 4-2 win.


    SAN JOSE 4, St. Louis 0

    San jose Sharks D Erik Karlsson scored his first goal as a member of the franchise and helped shutout the St. Louis Blues 4-0.

    Joe Pavelski would also score in the contest and this would also be his fourth consecutive game with a goal.

     

    NWHL

     

    The lone NWHL contest of yesterday pitted the Boston Pride against the Buffalo Beauts.

     

    Boston’s Jillian Dempsey and Gigi Marvin would both score twice to give the Pride a big win over the Buffalo Beauts at Warrior Ice Arena last night.

     

    Dempsey scored her goals in the first period and then sealed the win for the Pride with her second goal of the contest with 6:40 left in the third period.

     

    The Boston Pride would play strong defensively in this contest, giving up Buffalo’s lone goal at the 7:40 mark in the second.  Hayley Scamurra would get the goal for Buffalo.

     

    Hayley Scamurra has four goals and four assists on the season.

     

    Pride G Katie Burt registered 25 saves on 26 shots and Beauts G Nicole Hensley would have 22 saves on 26 shot attempts.

     

    With the win, Boston is now in second place in the NWHL standings at 3-1 with the Minnesota Whitecaps at 6-0, who return to NWHL action in two weeks.

     

    The Buffalo Beauts now sit at 2-3-0 in the standings, good for third place.  The Metropolitan Riveters are at 1-5-0 and rounding out the standings is the winless Connecticut Whale at 0-3-0.

     

    The Boston Pride and Buffalo Beauts will face off again at 2:30pm today at Warrior Ice Arena.

    New Jersey’s Taylor Hall recorded his eighth career four-point performance in the Devils 4-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

     

    NY ISLANDERS 5, Vancouver 2

     

    Mathew Barzal of the NY Islanders would register his 100th career point in his 101st game, becoming the sixth player to reach the 100 point mark among active NHL players.

     

     

    The Islanders would go on to rout the Vancouver Canucks 5-2

     

    Florida 2, PHILADELPHIA 1

    Florida’s Mike Hoffman would score to extend his point-scoring streak to an NHL-high 13 games on the season in the Florida Panthers one-goal win over the Philadelphia Flyers last night.

    Also in this contest, Panthers G Roberto Luongo became the fourth goaltender in League history to win four contests to be at the age of 39 or older.

    BUFFALO 2, Tampa Bay 1

    Buffalo has now won three in a row and seven out of their last 11 in the big win over the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in Buffalo last night.

     

    DETROIT 6, Arizona 1

     

    Before the contest, the Detroit Red Wings held their pre-game skate in the Hockey Fights Cancer practice jerseys.

    Tom Wilson would return to action, by registering his first goal of the season, and helped the defending champions take down the Minnesota Wild with a 5-2 win.

    Edmonton’s Connor McDavid would have his 31st three-point contest, all assists, in Edmonton’s big win over the Canadiens.  Evgeny Malkin and Patrick Kane are the two players behind McDavid with 28 and 27, respectively.  This mark dates back to the 2015-16 NHL season.

    Despite Montreal Canadiens Max Domi registering a goal in the first six minutes in the contest to tie the game 1-1, it would not be enough as the Edmonton Oilers would go on to defeat Montreal 6-2.

    Domi’s goal would be his 10th of the season and the most of his career since the 2015-16 season.

     

    Toronto 5, LOS ANGELES 1

    The Toronto Maple Leafs began their West Coast trip with a big win over the Los Angeles Kings 5-1.

    San Jose Sharks Erik Karlsson would become the fifth player to record 400 career assists and achieved this mark in 646 games with the Sharks defeating the Nashville Predators 5-4.

    Joe Thornton of the Sharks would reach the 400 career goal mark and became the 11th player to have at least 400 goals and 1,000 assists in their careers.

    Minnesota finished off their longest road trip in the near 20 years of Minnesota Wild hockey with the win over the St. Louis Blues and amassed a record of 5-2-0 on this road trip, the most wins on such a single road trip.

     

    FLORIDA 5, Ottawa 1

     

    Florida’s Mike Hoffman extended his point scoring streak to 12 games, tying Carolina’s Sebastian Aho for the longest point-scoring streak on the season in the Florida Panthers 5-1 win over the Ottawa Senators Sunday afternoon.

    The Arizona Coyotes scored two power-play goals to take down the defending Stanley Cup-champion Washington Capitals with a 4-1 win last night.

     

    Arizona in the last nine contests has a record of 6-2-1 after losing five of their first seven games to start the 2018-19 campaign.

    Winnipeg Jets Blake Wheeler became the first player to reach the 500 career point mark as a Winnipeg jet since the club relocated to Winnipeg in the 2011-12 season.

    In addition to Wheeler reaching the 500 point mark, he joins three others to reach at least 500 points while a member of the Winnipeg Jets.

     

    Winnipeg would go on to defeat the New Jersey Devils 5-2 yesterday.

     

    BOSTON 4, Vegas 1

    David Pastrnak registered his 16th goal of the season and would tie Bronco Horvath for fifth place all-time in team history for most goals in 17 team games for the Boston Bruins.

    The Bruins would go on to defeat the defending Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights 4-1.

     

    Vegas played in their 100th game as a franchise in the loss.

     

    Vegas before this contest held a record of 58-33-8.

     

    SAN JOSE 3, Calgary 1

     

    San Jose Sharks Joe Pavelski was a factor in all three of the Sharks goals last night as they took down the Calgary Flames 3-1 at SAP Center in San Jose, California.

    The Sharks are now one point behind Pacific-division leader, Vancouver.

     

    Colorado 4, EDMONTON 1

     

    It only took 26 seconds into this contest for Mikko Rantanen to re-gain the a share of lead in points scored with 25 in the Colorado Avalanche’s 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers last night.

    Vancouver had eight goals in a contest for the first time in nearly a decade in the win over Boston at TD Garden last night.

    Florida’s Mike Hoffman extended his point scoring streak to 10 games when he registered two assists in the Panthers 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

     

     

    PHILADELPHIA 5, Arizona 4 (OT)

    Despite the Philadelphia Flyers win in overtime over the Arizona Coyotes, Arizona is the second team to have nine shorthanded goals in 14 games since 1933-34.

     

    They share the record with the 1975-76 St. Louis Blues franchise.

     

    Buffalo 6, MONTREAL 5 (OT)

     

    The Buffalo Sabres would win on an overtime goal by Rasmus Ristolainen, the fourth in franchise history in regular-season play by a defenceman.

     

    Vegas 5, OTTAWA 3

     

    Vegas’ fourth line would power the team through a hard-fought win over the Ottawa Senators and earn the season-sweep.

     

    TAMPA BAY 4, NY Islanders 2

     

    The Tampa Bay Lightning for the second straight season have 25 points through 16 games or less with the win over the Islanders last night.

    Despite being down by four, Chicago’s comeback in the contest fell short when they were defeated by Carolina in the debut for Chicago’s new bench boss, Jeremy Colliton.

    San Jose’s Brent Burns became the fourth member in team history to record at least 20 points in 16 or fewer team games last night.

     

    Joe Thornton would, in fact, play in his 1500th NHL game, the most ever for a number one overall pick in League history.

    -Minnesota’s Zach Parise registered his 700th career point and leads all active U.S. born players with 339 goals.

    -The Washington Capitals will host their annual Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness night.

     

     

    -Yesterday, the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks unveiled the jerseys that they will wear for the 2019 NHL Winter Classic.

    -With the 2018 Hockey Hall of Fame induction happening Monday night, the new inductees received the rings as a part of festivities.

     

     

    Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs host the New Jersey Devils in the annual Hockey Hall of Fame Game at Scotiabank Arena.

    There will be more on the Hall of Fame induction ceremony Tuesday.

     

    -The Chicago Blackhawks and 2018 first round pick, defenceman Nicolas Beaudin, agreed to a three-year, entry level deal.

    Beaudin will remain with the QMJHL’s Drummondville Voltiguers.

     

    -Vegas Golden Knights D Nate Schmidt, who is still suspended for a violation of the League’s Substance Abuse Policy, participated in practice earlier today.

    Also with the Golden Knights, the team today announced that they will hold their Military Appreciation night on November 14th.

     

    -John Carlson of the Washington Capitals will miss tonight’s contest.  In a corresponding move, the Washington Capitals recalled Jonas Siegenthaler from the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears.

    -The Montreal Canadiens announced earlier today that Tomas Plekanec has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purposes of buying out his contract.

    Today is Wednesday, November 7th, and these are your news and notes…

    There were nine league contests last night.

     

    The Maple Leafs won their 10th game of the season out of 15 games for the 11th time in franchise history and the first since the 2013-14 season when they won 10 games out of the first 14.

     

     

    Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist won his 436th career game and is now one win shy of tying Jacques Plante for seventh place all time.

     

     

    Max Domi would score all three of Montreal’s goals in the contest to give him a goal-scoring streak of four contests and has 16 points on the season, including nine goals thus far.

    The Columbus Blue Jackets have defeated the Dallas Stars for the sixth consecutive time.

     

     

    Ottawa’s Mark Stone had a five-point game to lift Ottawa to the win over New Jersey. Stone is the fifth player in Senators’ history to have multiple five point games in the regular season.

     

     

    Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson would score yet again and continues to lead all rookies in goals and points but would still fall to the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout.

     

    Pettersson has scored 10 goals in 10 games played. He is the fifth player outside of the League’s first season to score 10+ goals through their first 10 NHL games.

     

     

    In Tampa Bay’s Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness night, Tampa Bay would get the win in the contest over the Edmonton Oilers and move to a record of 11-3-1 and into first place in the NHL standings.

     

     

    St. Louis F Ryan O’Reilly registered a hat-trick and would extend his point streak to eight games in the contest against the Hurricanes. O’Reilly also had an eight-game point streak during the 2015-16 season.

     

     

    In this match-up, Ilya Kovalchuk had one goal and two assists in the first game for new Kings head coach, Willie Desjardins.

     

     

     

    San Jose’s Joe Thornton played in his 1499th NHL contest last night and tied Mike Modano for 19th all time.

     

     

    With his next game, Thornton will become the first overall pick in the history of the NHL Draft to reach the 1500 game milestone.

     

    As a note from the contests yesterday, this would only be the fifth time in League history where the home teams swept a schedule of 9+ games.

    -Edmonton Oilers Milan Lucic will have a hearing today for roughing Tampa Bay’s Mathieu Joseph in last night’s contest.

     

     

    The NHL’s Department of Player Safety in accordance to the hearing announced that Lucic has been fined $10,000, the maximum allowed under the CBA, for roughing Mathieu Joseph.

     

     

    -Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada’s Elliotte Friedman released his “31 Thoughts” article yesterday. The topic revolves around the Ottawa Senators Uber video and the fallout.
