    Mike’s STH Xperience – A Quack Attack

Welcome to Mike’s Season Ticket Holder (STH) Xperience!

This season is my first one as a Season Ticket holder for the Washington Capitals, and in place of doing Caps Game Recaps, I’ll be sharing my experience being a STH during the 2024-25 season. Here I’ll be sharing all of the photos that I take during pregame warmups, along with any FB/IG Reels and TikToks I create at the games.

I will also be doing this for any other games I may go to, whether it’s in Hershey for the Bears, or at other NHL venues for games.

The Washington Capitals host the Anaheim Ducks in Tuesday night action.

    #Caps50Facts

A member of the inaugural Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, forward Joe Sacco enjoyed five seasons with the Ducks. Sacco signed with the Washington Capitals in the summer of 1999, and spent three seasons with the Capitals that saw him record 14 goals and 30 assists for 44 points in 213 games played.

    Thoughts on the Game

A good solid win for the Capitals against the youthful Ducks. The Capitals did a great job at keeping the high quality scoring chances down to a minimum, and Logan Thompson did a great job with keeping the Ducks off the board. Definitely a great building block game for the Capitals.

  • PWHL Stars of the Week – Poulin Takes First Star Honors

PWHL Stars of the Week – Poulin Takes First Star Honors

Today the Professional Women’s Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of January 6th through 12th.

    First Star – Marie-Philip Poulin (F – MON)

Montréal’s captain took over the top spot in the PWHL ‘3 Stars of the Week’ presented by Shark Beauty Canada standings with a three-point week as the Victoire split a pair of 4-2 decisions on the PWHL Takeover Tour™ of the Pacific Northwest. On Wednesday, before a sold-out crowd of 19,038 at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, Poulin had two goals – including the game-winner – on three shots in the Victoire’s victory over the Toronto Sceptres. On Sunday, Poulin added an assist – her first power play point of the season – on Jennifer Gardiner’s second-period goal, helping lift the Victoire into a temporary 2-2 tie at Denver’s Ball Arena before a record-setting crowd of 14,018 – the largest ever for a professional women’s hockey game in the United States. With the Victoire having helped attract 12,608 to Seatle’s Climate Pledge Arena for the first game of the Takeover Tour, Montréal played before an aggregate of 45,664 in the Tour’s first three stops. With 4-2—6 in nine games, Poulin leads the Victoire in scoring.

Second Star – Corinne Schroeder (G – NYS)

At Prudential Center Sunday, Schroeder stopped 28 Toronto shots to collect her second consecutive shutout and help the Sirens squelch the Sceptres, 1-0 in overtime. Schroeder, the first PWHL goaltender ever to post consecutive regular season shutouts and author of the only two shutouts in the league this season, also turned 26 saves into a 5-0 conquest of the Frost at Minnesota on January 4. She has stopped 64 consecutive shots since Ottawa’s Kateřina Mrázová scored at 6:53 of the second period in a 3-1 Charge victory December 29 and has mounted a shutout streak of 156 minutes, 44 seconds. The 24-year-old Schroeder also has helped the Sirens withstand nine consecutive opposition power-play opportunities and pull into a tie for third in the PWHL standings. Her 1.86 goals-against average leads the PWHL, and with a 5-2-0 record, Schroeder is tied for the league lead in victories with Minnesota’s Maddie Rooney. Her .935 save percentage shares the league’s top spot with Ottawa’s Emerance Maschmeyer.

Third Star – Sidney Morin (D – BOS)

Morin scored at 1:45 of overtime in Ottawa Saturday, sending the Fleet home from a six-game road trip on a winning note. Boston’s Hannah Brandt carried the puck to the goal line at the right of Ottawa goalie Gwyneth Philips, and the Fleet’s Shay Maloney drove to the front of the net – attracting two Ottawa defenders and clearing the slot for Morin’s 35-foot wrist shot (her fifth shot of the game) inside the post to Philips’ left. The goal was the second of the game for Morin, who scored only once in 24 games during the PWHL’s Inaugural Season. The tally was somewhat more conventional than the defender’s first goal: At 15:55 of the opening period, Morin had charged into the goal crease, gained position on Charge defender Zoe Boyd to sweep the puck in from three feet out. With 2-1—3 for the season, the 29-year-old Morin is within a point of matching her 1-3—4 total from 2024 with the Fleet, who split a pair of 2-1 overtime decisions for the week and who do not play again until Jan. 22.

  • NHL Stars of the Week – Hellebuyck Stays Dominant

NHL Stars of the Week – Hellebuyck Stays Dominant

Today the National Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of January 6th through 12th.

First Star – Connor Hellebuyck (G – WIN)

    • Hellebuyck became the third-fastest goaltender in NHL history to reach the 300-win milestone, going 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average, .960 save percentage and one shutout to help the Jets (29-12-3, 61 points) pad their lead atop the Central Division. He made 26 saves, including 11 in the third period, to record his 300th career victory in a 5-2 triumph versus the Nashville Predators Jan. 7. At 538 games, Hellebuyck became the third-fastest goaltender to achieve the milestone, behind only Andrei Vasilevskiy (490 GP) and Jacques Plante (521 GP). The reigning Vezina Trophy winner then stopped all 22 shots he faced in a 3-0 win against the Colorado Avalanche to earn his League-leading sixth shutout of 2024-25, tying a franchise record he established in 2017-18 (67 GP) and matched in 2019-20 (58 GP). The 31-year-old Hellebuyck has appeared in 34 total games this season, topping the NHL (minimum: 14 GP) in wins (26), goals-against average (2.02), save percentage (.928) and shutouts (6). He is seeking to become the fifth goaltender in League history to finish a campaign as the leader in all four categories, a distinction previously achieved by Plante (1958-59 w/ MTL), Ken Dryden (1972-73 w/ MTL), Bernie Parent (1973-74 w/ PHI) and Bob Froese (1985-86 w/ PHI).

Second Star – Jordan Staal (C – CAR)

    • Staal paced the NHL with 5-2—7 in four games to power the Hurricanes (26-15-3, 55 points) to a 2-1-1 week. He factored on both Carolina goals, totaling 1-1—2, in a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning Jan. 7. Staal then scored his fourth career hat trick – and first since April 10, 2022 vs. ANA – in a 6-3 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs Jan. 9. At 36 years, 121 days, he became the third-oldest player in franchise history to record a hat trick, behind just Rod Brind’Amour (37 years, 79 days on Oct. 27, 2007 at NYI) and Ray Whitney (36 years, 302 days on March 6, 2009 vs. CGY). Staal added 1-1—2, including his 44th career game-winning goal, in a 2-0 triumph versus the Vancouver Canucks Jan. 10 before behind held off the score sheet in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks Jan. 12 – a night that saw his oldest brother, Eric, have his No. 12 jersey raised to the rafters of Lenovo Center. The 36-year-old Staal has played in 44 total contests this season, his 19th in the NHL, compiling 9-14—23 while ranking eighth in the League in both face-offs won (435) and face-offs taken (800).
The Official Men’s Personal Care Products of TXHT.

Third Star – Patrick Kane (RW – DET)

    • Kane produced 2-4—6 in three appearances to lift the Red Wings (20-18-4, 44 points) to a perfect week – and their seventh straight win dating to Dec. 29 – as they moved within two points of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. He notched his 13th career overtime goal (and 79th career game-winning goal) in a 3-2 triumph against the Ottawa Senators Jan. 7. Kane then collected a trio of helpers – his 22nd career three-assist performance and first since March 12, 2022 at OTT (w/ CHI) – in a 5-3 win versus his former team, the Chicago Blackhawks, Jan. 10. He closed the week with 1-1—2, his ninth multi-point outing of 2024-25, in a 6-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken Jan. 12. The 36-year-old Kane – voted one of the “100 Greatest NHL Players” during the League’s Centennial celebration – has registered 10-17—27 through 37 total contests this season, with nearly half of those points coming during a seven-game streak that aligns with Detroit’s current unblemished run (Dec. 29 – Jan. 12: 5-8—13).
