Today the Professional Women’s Hockey League announced their Three Stars of the Week for the week of February 24th through March 2nd.
With a goal and an assist in each contest, Stacey helped Montréal make some franchise history, sweep its two-game week and build its first-place lead to seven points over Toronto entering Women’s Empowerment Month. Saturday against Boston, before a “Duel At The Top” crowd of 17,324 at Montréal’s Bell Centre, Stacey scored with 16.3 seconds remaining in overtime – launching herself toward the rebound of a Cayla Barnes shot and sending a 10-foot backhand into the net as she landed. The Victoire have two overtime victories this season and Stacey has scored the winner in both of them; she notched the other just 15 seconds into extra time at Toronto on Dec. 21. Just 36 seconds into The Duel, Stacey assisted on the fastest goal from the start of a game in Victoire history, teaming with Jennifer Gardiner to set up the first of two goals by defender Kati Tabin. In Montréal’s other contest, Feb. 25 against Toronto, Stacey set up Gardiner’s 1-1 goal at 4:01 of the second period and added the 3-1 tally into an empty net with exactly one minute left in regulation. With goals in three straight games and 7-5—12 for the season, Stacey is second on the team in tallies to the 12 by Marie-Philip Poulin (12-5—17).
Hughes earned 3 Stars Of The Week recognition for the second time in three weeks after scoring two goals and setting up a third in Ottawa’s only contest – a 5-4 overtime conquest of the New York Sirens at TD Place Feb. 26. In doing so, Hughes recorded her second three-point performance and third multi-point effort in a five-game span since the international break, totaling 5-3—8. The second Star of the Week for games of Feb. 10-16 opened the scoring 3:15 into the game and closed it just 36 seconds into overtime, giving Ottawa its first overtime victory in team history and pulling the Charge within two points of fourth-place Minnesota. She also set up the goal by Emily Clark that gave the Charge a 4-3 lead at 5:21 of the third period. Hughes has 14 goals in her PWHL career and four of them have been game-winners. With 5-5—10 for the season, she is within two points of matching last year’s 9-3—12. Hughes is tied for third on the Charge in goals, behind Clark (7) and Tereza Vanišová (9), and her point total is third on the team behind Clark (14) and Vanišová (13).
Tabin had a career-best two goals, and a season-high five shots on net, in Saturday’s Duel at the Bell Centre. Her two-goal performance – the first by a Victoire defender in team history – started with a 50-foot wrist shot from the left point that sailed past Stacey’s screen and beat Boston goalie Aerin Frankel inside the post to her right just 36 seconds after the opening draw. Tabin’s second goal was a slap shot, also from the left point, that tied the score 2-2 at 13:01 of the third period and set the stage for Stacey’s dramatic OT winner. The five-shot game ended a nine-game stretch in which Tabin had totaled only six shots. The five shots also topped her previous season-high of four, at Toronto Dec. 21, and was the second-highest total of her career; Tabin had seven shots on goal at Boston, Feb. 4, 2024. With 3-2—5 for the season, the 27-year-old from Winnipeg is one point shy of matching last season’s 1-5—6.

Welcome to Mike’s Season Ticket Holder (STH) Xperience!
This season is my first one as a Season Ticket holder for the Washington Capitals, and in place of doing Caps Game Recaps, I’ll be sharing my experience being a STH during the 2024-25 season. Here I’ll be sharing all of the photos that I take during pregame warmups, along with any FB/IG Reels and TikToks I create at the games.
I will also be doing this for any other games I may go to, whether it’s in Hershey for the Bears, or at other NHL venues for games.
Mike and the Dacek Ball Hockey Program take in the Washington Capitals game against the Ottawa Senators.
Drafted 14th overall in the 1992 NHL Draft, the Washington Capitals selected defenseman Sergei Gonchar. Gonchar spent the first ten seasons of his career with the Capitals where he recorded 144 goals and 416 points in 654 games.
Gonchar was also a three time All-Star while with the Capitals, and was a part of the Capitals when they went to the Stanley Cup Final in 1998. On March 3rd, 2004, the Capitals traded Gonchar to the Boston Bruins. Gonchar later spent three seasons with the Ottawa Senators. Gonchar won the Stanley Cup as part of the 2009 Pittsburgh Penguins.
This game had more meaning to me than most games this season, and the reason for that is because on Friday I was laid off from my job, along with several others, due to DOGE and what is happening to the Federal Government. This game was always planned to be a group outing with my Dacek Ball Hockey group, but I also worked with a lot of the people that are part of the program, so when myself and others got laid off, I made a point to make this more of a celebration than being about the game.
For the game itself, it was a good one. Tom Wilson got the Gordie Howe hat trick, and the Capitals got the win. No goals from Alex Ovechkin, but that’s ok. The important part is that everyone had fun.
For anyone interested, the Dacek Ball Hockey Group meets up every Monday at 6p ET at the Nancy Dacek Community Center in Rockville, MD. You must be 18 years or older to play. For more information, email Michael at TXHThockey@gmail.com with the subject line “Dacek Ball Hockey”.

Today the National Hockey League has announced the Stars of the Month for the month of February 2025.
MacKinnon notched 4-8—12 in eight contests to lift the Avalanche (35-24-2, 72 points) into a tie – in terms of standings points – for third place in the Central Division via a 5-3-0 month. He also scored a tournament-best four goals in as many games to claim MVP honors and help Canada to its championship at the 4 Nations Face-Off. MacKinnon found the score sheet in five of his eight appearances for Colorado, highlighted by a trio of three-point performances: Feb. 6 at CGY (0-3—3), Feb. 7 at EDM (1-3—4) and Feb. 26 vs. NJD (2-1—3). He topped the League in power-play goals (4), power-play points (t-6) and shots on goal (38), and also ranked among February’s leaders in points (7th; 12) and assists (t-8th; 8). MacKinnon became the first NHL player to reach the 90-point milestone in 2024-25, doing so in his 60th appearance Feb. 26 vs. NJD. It marked the third straight campaign that MacKinnon has accumulated 90 points in 60 or fewer contests, after also achieving the feat in 2023-24 (56 GP) and 2022-23 (59 GP). The reigning Hart Memorial Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award winner currently owns a League-high 23-68—91 through 61 total games this season. The 29-year-old MacKinnon also places among the top 2024-25 performers in assists (1st; 68), even-strength assists (1st; 46), even-strength points (2nd; 62), shots on goal (2nd; 247), power-play points (t-2nd; 29) and power-play assists (t-3rd; 22).
