Game Recap:
Heading into Game 5, the Tampa Bay Lightning look to finish off the Montreal Canadiens in front of the home crowd. In the first period it would be penalty filled. Tampa would get two powerplay opportunities, but would not get any quality chances. Montreal would get an opportunity but the first half would be dominated by the Bolts, and the second half would be squandered by coincidental minors and a penalty to wipe out their powerplay chance. Carey Price would play spectacularly for the Habs stopping all 13 shots faced.
In the second period the Canadiens would begin to get their mojo going as they would get two early powerplays. While they wouldn’t score on them, they were able to start generating scoring chances, and start generating momentum in their favor. However, late in the period Ross Colton would redirect a David Savard pass to to give the Bolts the 1-0 lead. In the final minute of the period Ben Chiarot would get called for holding to give Tampa an abbreviated powerplay to start the third.
In the third period it would be very tightly played between both teams, but the Lightning would hold on to win the Stanley Cup for the second consecutive season with the 1-0 victory over the Canadiens.
