New York Rangers (12-13-4 28pts) v. Washington Capitals (20-6-4 44pts)
Game Recap:
Back in DC for the second game of their back to back with the New York Rangers, the Washington Capitals look to continue their winning ways as Tom Wilson returns from his seven game suspension. In the first period both teams would get some powerplay opportunities, but neither team would score on them to gain the advantage. However, late in the period Pavel Buchnevich would strike to give the Rangers the 1-0 lead as they headed into the first intermission.
In the second period the Caps and Rangers would trade powerplay opportunities, but both teams penalty kills were up to the task, plus Ilya Samsonov and Keith Kinkaid played lights out hockey to keep the game at 1-0 in favor of the Rangers.
In the third period we would see the Caps take a penalty, but after killing it off it would be John Carlson scoring to tie the game at one. However, after killing a penalty of their own, Mika Zibanejad would strike to give the Rangers the 2-1 lead, and then Brett Howden would get the empty netter to secure the 3-1 victory over the Capitals. This game mirrored the game that was played the night before, but with a different result. Both Ilya Samsonov and Keith Kinkaid played spectacularly in net for their respective teams.
